@@rastascotty That's true but Geddes' song is different and is not inspired by the Pursuasions, unlike Bob's which was definitely inspired if not copied from this great man. Buffalo soldiers were African American calvary men in the 1800s so the phrase buffalo soldier was not uncommon and can not be attributed to the Pursuasions

This is the most beautiful music. I hate to see Giddes Chalamanda in such poverty. This recording has been viewed multi-millions of times on different platforms, particularly RU-vid. Is he receiving any money? Patience Namandingo is obviously much wealthier and has some connection with the bank. Someone must be making some money and I truly hope some of it is going to Giddes.
I think Namadingo with the help of the bank established a store for him in the village. This video by Namadingo also gave Chalamanda a lot of attention and even got a invitation for him to visit the President at the presidential palace. Yes much more can be done for him. Most of the old African music legends did not get due benefits of their work. It is sad. This work by Namadingo was a good step for him. Thanks.
@JennyWright I totally agree with you A store in the village unfortunately will not give we him financial freedom at 92Yrs. Instead of a store I don't see why they couldn't set up a RU-vid Channel where he could share his brilliant music and folklore culture of Malawi. Millions of people already liove his music. His channel would be a hit and the money from the channel would impact not just Papa Giddes but the whole village as welll...Food for thought!🙏🏽
Jenny Wright although we might know if actually he is getting all the money he is supposed to be getting. I shed a tear when I saw the video when Namadingo visited the old man and showing the poverty the legend was living. I do think that step by Namadingo brought a positive change to the legend's life.
from Joossa's review, i believe giddes's 1974 version of buffalo soldier truly preceded and influenced bob Marley's 1978 version. however i do not see any copyright infringement in bob Marley's version as inspiration for a creative work most often stem from old influences of similar works or ideas. @@rastascotty Stop this misinformation. Just because they sang about a buffalo soldier which were black American cultural iconology from the1800s doesn't mean no one could sing about them. The issue is who sang the song first that Marley made famous. Giddes' song is not remotely similar to the Pursuasions' unlike Bob Marley's to Giddes.
Why you “do not see any copy right infringement” It is clear to see. Maybe because he, Giddes didn’t know any better and there were no lawyer to help him. We are in different world today, nobody can take advantage on anybody like that again.

Me too..makes me wondering if reggae came from AFRICA first but with a different name🤔....i wouldnt be surprised if it did ...most influences in the diaspora came from the Motherland AFRICA.
@@roberto48135it did Reggae has been in Africa since Africa was Africa , but it wasn’t called Reggae it was just called tunes drums and tones with beautiful voices.
Africans have been singing this way for thousands of years without the electrified organs and such but the drums and tunes have been so since time, I’m 75 my father RIP he used to play African music all my young life he was a sailor brought records with his peoples music no difference p. Bob Marley called it Reggae when he sand similar tunes as the Jamaicans are from the Africans taken as slaves by colonisers, Marley listened to African artist but was playing like this since he was a young man Africans worldwide have this rhythm it’s drum base and rhythm. One love, one heart, let's get together and be alright. Very famous line from the "ICON" Bob Marley. Pure guess work, I think that Bob heard the song and liked the lyrics and features. He decided to make his version of it and spread the message on behalf of the Buffalo soldiers. Back then and long time before that, there was no such thing as intellectual property, except for the whites who could buy and sell you at will. I must say that there are some striking similarities as to the tunes and some features of the song. Back then the world was the same place with different technologies. I remember when I had to wait a month to get a "Yes" or a "No" to a question I put in a letter. That was only roughly 40 years ago. Now this situation happened around 50 years ago. Given that Giddes was a popular singer in the 50s, it's likely a possible occurrence. But no big deal, they are artists, they sang and still sing out of love and passion. If a fact finding committee can be organised and reward the man for his contribution. That is good, right? Bob don't need money where he is. He's left plenty enough for his siblings. Remunerate the man for his good work and let his siblings enjoy the fruit of his wonderful creation. Music is love. If we can reward people for killing other people. Surely we can reward people for spreading love right?✌🏽✌🏽
