I got into some seriously spicy stuff thanks to an invite from Ricky in El Paso. He emailed me a couple years ago to come check out his local goods and I finally made it to the capital of West Texas. We got lucky with some really nice winter weather, I can't even imagine how hot it must be in the summer.
Roughrider Canyon is a private MTB park that is seriously rough. I love this kind of stuff and it pushed my limits quite nicely. I'm so happy to survive.

Brian I went to NMSU up the road in Las Cruces. I road a hiking trail that is the equivalent of those UTEP trails in 1990-92 on my used 1989 26” Specialized Rockhopper and Cannondale SM 600. This is why at 52 I am always the best technical rider in any group in ride with!

Went to El Paso, rode Lost Dog Trail there is a section where you literally go up a rocky hill, boulders and lava rock everywhere. If El Paso altitude doesn’t kill you the rocky terrain will bring you to submission. Ride those trails with the widest tires possible and lowest PSI. Oh my God the torture.

So much chunk,... almost doesn’t look fun. If you pass through the DFW area, on the North side of Grapevine Lake, is the Northshore Trail. There are 6 loops that you can do individually, or you can connect them all for a super sick ride. Trails are very cared for, they’re directional. Bike wash/repair stations throughout. Nice views of the lake. Also on the south side of the lake is about a 5 mile loop trail called the Horseshoe Trail.

I'm sure folks have already told you but the tire boot is meant to be used with the tube. It is for big slices where the tube might poke through the tire. You can also use a folded dollar bill or an energy bar wrapper. The boot is for when tubeless plugs truly fail and a tube is the only way out

I was stationed at Bliss in '71. Didn't have MTB then and I rode a 10-speed all over. Typical Saturday/Sunday would be to ride up Scenic Drive or down Montana around the Franklyn's out to a farm road in New Mexico and up to Las Cruzes. Stop for massive amounts of fluid. Then back to the base via Trans Mountain Road. Like 106 miles. Or I'd ride down to Juarez and go in as far as I dared and then back out. It's really cool to see the trails there now. I'll have to look on MTB Project for more of them. What was your MOS/Job? I was a 05C Radio-Teletype Operator assigned to a special aviation company with aircraft at Biggs.

No European history in the Americas past about 500 years ago except a few norse explorers, but people have been here for 12,000+ years possibly 20,000! It's just harder for us newcomers to understand because we're used to our own things. There are ruins in Peru that date back to around 3600 BCE. There are mounds in Louisiana (more to the the north) some of which are dated back to 3500 BCE. There are also stories passed from generation to generation that may be from the last Ice Age. This isn't meant to be outrage, just sometimes we get stuck in our own expectations of things and end up missing whole worlds.

My brand new pivot has a a nice chip in the BB from there. And every one of those plants wants to pop your tire. Those pointy ones will impale you if you arent careful. In case anyone is wondering what it is like to ride there.
