You should do a FanTea about people being shamed for cosplaying characters who's race/body type isn't canon/fanon.

people constantly shame me for liking the makara's and the ampora's as a whole. and i find ignoring them works best. i know the makara's as a whole are murderer clowns and i know that at least eridan and dualscar are bad people but it's in fantasy. i would never want a bunch of murderer clowns or fish running around in real life. i would stay far away from them, but i like them as characters in the fantasy world that was made for them. and i will never stop liking them in their fantasy world just cause someone tells me they are bad characters or because they are horrible people or because they just dont like them. i like these characters for my own reasons. and i was drinking mint tea for this~ cold and dark mesh well together i think~

I know how that feels in people policing fandoms, bout 3 or 4 years ago i was getting that hate because of the couples id have shipped or what kind of AU i wrote/write. But thankfully after the change that happened with AUs and the fandoms becoming more opened and accepting its become much easier to make friends and be accepted by readers. (I also think it helped when i got smarter in how i write lol) Thankfully i can now a days, go on and update a story / AU without being shamed or told such and such is wrong and that i should ship such and such together instead. But at the same time its not always avoidable as there are those people who refuse to read what ever fandoms AUs with an open mind. But thankfully that sort of thinking is dying at a modest pace and everyone is slowly becoming more accepting as like myself many of us like to mix or read mixed fandom AUs...i know im happy more people are more accepting and such to where i dont write things only to delete it because i feel its wrong to others....now a day i usually just think "yeah you dont like this? Then you may leave this an find another story to your liking if you please"...almost said that to many people on Wattpad lately lol

This is very well thought out, KW. I'm going to have to share this with my daughter tomorrow. She is a shipper and gets told some of these things a lot. I hope she gets as much out of this as I have. Thanks for sharing!

Random Question: *What Fandom Do You Think Is The Most Mature?*

Ooh, boy. Where to start. Get ready for a book here. Well, recently I've joined a Harry Potter FB group that doesn't police people to a ridiculous extent as I experienced with another group, but I've been seeing a rather disproportionate amount of Snape hate. I'm personally not a huge Snape fan, but I recognize him as a morally grey character as opposed to someone irredeemably evil. Similarly, I'm a Draco fan. I enjoy him in Drarry, some Dramione every now and then, and the dirty fangirl in myself ships him with myself filling out a young Harry's role (I can more easily identify with Harry than Hermione). Thus, trying to explain what's fascinating about the ships is difficult. Someone compared that to shipping a Nazi with a Jew (what with the allegory around Death Eaters) and I could only answer, "Well that would make for an interesting passion-fueled story, wouldn't it?" As I can see someone mentioning Homestuck below, I can't say I was ever actually shamed for the idea, but I can just FEEL a kind of judgment surrounding blackrom ships. Like, it can be lazily used to have two characters who hate each other hook up. And as a writer, I can see that, yeah. But I can't help it! I still love to black-ship Eridan and Vriska, and I can see myself with a rage-induced pitch-crush on both Eridan and Zebruh (introduced in the HiveSwap FriendSim). Yes, they can be VERY bad. No, I would not like them at all. I hate them very much. But that doesn't mean I can't feel attraction and make some kind of AU rivalry where we have heated discussions (which would most likely boil down to yelling at each other), throw a few punches, and perhaps finish it with a kiss... in. my. head. I have been shamed for being a Homestuck in general, however! By some random person on Twitter. Because it apparently automatically makes us pedophiles. Ignoring the fact that not every fan on earth gets turned on by shipping, there are two huge problems here: 1) attraction to someone who is a minor but has already hit puberty isn't pedophilia; that would be ephebophilia. Confusing the two is a pretty drastic thing which I always discourage, especially since a lot of countries may have a lower age of consent law than the one any given person could be living in. 2) They are FICTIONAL characters. It matters not that most characters are 13-16 years old. In my head, they could be my age or I could be their age or we're both immortals or whatever. For instance, take Danny Phantom. That character is 14. I had a crush on him when I was about 12. I'm currently 22. If I looked at suggestive fan art today? Well, said random person would call me a pedo again, despite Danny being OLDER than me when a small crush happened and him being FICTIONAL. Like... just goddamn. There is so much grey area in situations like this. Does it matter that a hot anime dude or lady isn't 18 in their canon media? They can be in their thirties in fan art. Or they can be drawn along college years, or later teens. Or even if it would be in a situation where it would still be an illegal situation in the real world, we don't need to shame people because they're still fictional! Also, confession time? I used to not be down with gay ships too. But I didn't have "religious" reasons though. I was honestly just young and never heard of a gay before in my life and just found the idea of Spider-Man being with Captain America to be really confusing and I didn't understand how fan fiction worked, really. And uh, surprise surprise. I came out as bi. I didn't have any tea because it was just SPILLED! (I do however have an excellent bag of loose leaves for some Caramel Oolong.)

I’ve just pulled back from fandoms as a whole. It’s probably why I haven’t watched you in forever. I’m a lurker now and focus on my own characters. It’s quiet here.

Someone actually is constantly picking on my partner and I for shipping a rare ship in a video game. Like, people ship the twins in the game and get no hate. But as soon as we say "Hey we ship Yooran" the hate just pours into our inboxes, and it's honestly getting very annoying for the both of us.

In some fandoms, I find myself shipping some form of selfcest and get shammed on it, is that bad?
