I have met Barbara Harris on several occasions. Not only are her performances always incredible, she is also a lovely, gracious, and personable individual who truly seems to enjoy her work and personal interactions. I remember once, when I first met her, I told her how disappointed I was that she didn't include "Attack" in her set. She informed me that she was only given so many minutes on stage and she couldn't fit it in. Then, she immediately went into a large portion of the song and sang it to me acapella..........just for me!!!. Now, who does that? The lady is wonderful!
This is just about the best pop song ever recorded. I could listen to this over and over (and I often do). Thanks to original composer Christian Petzold ("Minuet in G Major", from the 1700s), and 1960s adapters Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell. And of course thanks to Barbara Harris and the fabulous Toys, and to PBS for staging this show 15 or 20 years ago or so. Excellent!
I love the saxophonist nod at the very last moment. The whole performance is amazing, as Barbara Harris and company **invariably** are, performing this, but that nod caps off, summarizes everything that came before it, pure musical joy and affirmation of love and everything that is truly important in life, implicit in the original baroque masterpiece usually attributed to Bach but apparently by a now obscure composer "Petzold". But Bach included it in his children's music instruction, so Bach considered it on a level with his own, and possibly admired it even more. Like the Pachelbel Canon, it takes just one masterpiece to get to the pantheon forefront. This minuet is one of the greats of all time because it so uniquely and PURELY captures all our highest ideals of love and joy.
It's great to hear Barbara Harris perform A Lover's Concerto live on PBS. It's a song that's been one of my favorites for more than 50 years and I never get tired of it.
Thanks Barbara Harris for sharing your amazing and uplifting voice to the world and me when its definitely needed. Read all of these comments that are so powerful like your voice in this song 🙏😀
I love this rendition and all of them. I love Barbara Harris. PBS does such a good job with the arrangements and production. There is one more recent PBS performance that I also love, but I don’t think it has been posted. It’s quite good! There a few out there and I like them all!
What an absolutely brilliantly talented human being. This song has seen me through some of the toughest and happiest times of my life, thank you Barbara! And you have an Irish name
Beautiful Ladies and such a beautiful song, that can make me cry. I feel it in my heart. Could listen to this on a loop forever. Real music written and sung from the heart, not like today.

@@johnstephen7610 Barbara Harris is performing in my area in a few weeks (July 2023). The singers with her here are not from the original Toys. The lady with the short hair was from The Cookies.
