I met Huey years ago and he was the most relaxed, centered person you will ever meet. Down to earth, funny...no Ego. He lives in Montana and loves to fish. His music is still amazing

Good to see him still around; please don’t call his life a tragedy.

I’d say his life is anything but tragic. He’s lived and extremely blessed life with more ups than downs.

I’m a single dad that started playing “Stuck with you” to my son since 2,5months age. Until this day, when he cries, EVERY SINGLE TIME I play that song he stops immediately! Interestingly my dad used the same song when I was a young boy in the 80’s. Thank you Huey for making fatherhood a joy! I wish I could attach a video! ❤

Having his ranch in MT, I caught him walking out of a store and asked for his autograph. He said without hesitation, "Absolutely bud!" Thank you Huey! I too suffer from an ear disorder that drives me crazy. Glad I'm not alone. Blessings

I live close to Huey here in Montana, I remember having a beer with him at the local pub here, when he was first diagnosed with his hearing loss. I thought to myself, "This is like a Maestro Pianist losing his fingers" ! But what impressed me more was his attitude, i.e. He was more concerned about his music family, crew and having to cancel all his gigs, and was worried about them and their families not being able to work. Talk about compassionate and big hearted..All the best to ya my friend.

I wouldn't call anything about Mr Lewis a tragedy. He was great and still is but only with one flaw and that is his hearing. He's dealing with it and I praise him for it. He chose to keep on living and living he does. When I need upbeat and happy music, I listen to Lewis and it makes me feel better. 👍

To this day, Huey Lewis and the News (along with Tower of Power) remains the best live performance I have ever heard. They are the only ones I’ve seen who sounded exactly like the record. The mix of sound was impeccable.

I used to take care of Hueys wife's, Land Rover in Marin. He came by a few times and hung out in the service office and chat with me. Fantastic guy, Lovely man. I wish him all the best.

Wasn't the biggest fan, but they gave a free concert on Del Mr Beach for all the Marines and Sailors (and guests) in the area, which was pretty classy, and it was a solid concert. I'll always appreciate that.

I remember his reaction to his "instant fame." To HIM, it wasn't instant at all, laboring in obscurity for many years before finally making the charts.

I have to admit that as someone who has based his life around music that hearing his situation brought tears to my eyes and I can completely understand how he wound up contemplating suicide. Imagining being in that situation is heartbreaking.

Huey Lewis has always struck me as a cool guy in a business with a lot of jerks. I'm glad for his success and sad for his hearing loss. I'm hoping he's found another chapter for his life. Ironically, for his hearing recovery, he DOES want a new drug.

Many years ago I had the opportunity as a bartender to "babysit" Huey when he was on tour. He was a lovely man who just wanted to talk about his daughter and her hobby of show-jumping (at which she was apparently very good). I couldn't have asked for a guest to be more of a gentleman.

I had no idea he lost his hearing...Lord, thank you for giving us such an incredible band to create & listen to such beautiful music.

I understand the feelings of hopelessness, but like you have worked to cope with it and occasionally have what I call good days. In 2018, I got hit with Meniere's, suddenly going deaf in my right here -- I thought my right here was totally stopped up. My hearing came back, but have had a few repeat episodes. They put me on a daily anti-viral to help keep it at bay. I am a year younger than you. In 1984, after a tragedy in my life, I moved to SF. I found your music, and it did so much to put a smile in my life again. Thank you!

Me and my dad were just talking about this guy! I remember him from his music in back to the future. And THATS THE POWER OF LOVE. always played in grocery stores.

Saw Huey and the News in 1983 at the Palace in Hollywood. Stevie Ray Vaughn was the opening act. Great show!

I can only imagine how badly such hearing related problems would affect me as a music lover, composer, performer and recording artist. So glad Huey Lewis found the courage to carry on with life and be hopeful for better days.

Beethoven started loosing his hearing in his twenties and was almost completely deaf a couple of decade later. He wrote his Symphony no.9 in those latter years. It is an incredible masterpiece. You may know the forth and final movement of the work Ode to Joy. (Beethoven told a friend “if I belonged to any other profession, it would be easier, but in my profession it is a frightful state”)

When I hear the song “Back in Time “ from Huey Lewis and the News , that song does bring me “Back in Time” when life was different,fun and peaceful. I’ve always enjoyed their music.

His tunes were so addictive, just a pleasure walk around humming all day. I still do it now, and have not heard any of it in 30 years.

Huey and the boys mean the world to me, as a teenager trying to find myself i found alot of comfort and direction from not only their music but also watching them in their videos making fun of themselves. Just normal down to earth guys that left a lasting impression on me. THANK YOU HLN!!

My wife and I saw Huey and the news many years ago at a concert in Conn. Both of us to this day still say that he is the only singer that we have seen live that sounded better live then on record! Was sitting in my dentists office the other day and they had his song “Power of Love” playing on their radio. Just loved it and brought back lots of memories for this 83 year old! Thank you Huey and the best to you!

Huey Lewis was a student at Cornell and studied Chemical Engineering. He was also an all-state baseball player, and could have played the minors...the majors if he had worked toward it. This man had EVERYTHING: smarts, athleticism, artistic talent, a sense of humor, and had a hot rockin' bod (in "many" ways - the rumors are true!). He may not have everything that he had hoped for, but his life has been blessed -- even after his music career stalled because of "circumstances". I'm glad that he decided to stick around to be a presence for his family and to inspire others.

I still love you, man. Hang in there, If you never perform again. You are still my hero. Sending love and light.

Remember listening to them in the early '80s had most of their albums they were original down to earth and just a good group of guys and very talented it's sad that Huey has lost his hearing but he still has the passion to create music and to perform live is phenomenal

i always remember the story of Huey lewis helping Bruce Hornsby make it in the music business Hornsby knew Huey was golf mad and approached him on a golf course asking him take a tape and listen to his music Huey said he would if Bruce could beat him at golf, not sure who won the golf match but Huey was impressed and gave him a start by introducing him to the right people

Stay strong Huey, I had the pleasure of seeing you perform with the News at Wembley Stadium and it was a glorious experience. He's given so much pleasure to so many people that there is no way in which his life is tragic.

As someone who also suffers excruciatingly bad tinnitus - I feel his pain. The noise is almost unbearable, but I’ve also learned to live with it.

I met Huey and band when I worked for awhile at Larrabee Sound Systems Recording Studio in the early 90s. They showed up at around 2 am to visit, of all people, Michael Jackson, who was recording his Dangerous album... EVERYONE came to visit MJ, all the time, I don't know he got anything done...even Princess Stephanie of Monaco showed up, it was so weird...

Over 40 years of playing on stage with decibel readings up to twice the sound level of New York City rush hour traffic, bad things were bound to happen. Great musician back to '74 with a West Coast super group named Clover. I hope he finds peace and comfort. He's earned it.

It's so depressing and tragic that he can't hear anymore! He was, without a doubt one of the best singers to happen in my lifetime and I'm 56 years old!! I truly hope that some doctor figures out how to help our good friend!! Because it would be so tragic for us that we can't hear him make new music for the rest of our lives!! We absolutely and truly love you Huey!!

People cannot understand how my hearing loss has devastated me as a vocalist. I think I am in pitch but can be told I am not and it depends on the circumstances to be able to do much with a conversation or to use the phone. I feel for Huey as a man much more talented than I to have to deal with something that ruins his ability to be the man we all expect him to be. God help you Huey. Thanks for the episode.

Huey sang good-natured songs in the '80's & early 90's. I really do wish Him the best, as there aren't many Feel Good songs around these days like what He & The News used to play,..

Huey has always been my favorite. Do you believe in love is my favorite song and I sung it to my wife shortly after “I Do”. I shed a tear for what he’s lost and the world has lost.

I've always loved Huey's music and voice, wow. Being a musician all my life and having some of the same issues I understand some of the pain he's going / gone through.

I never cared much for Lewis' music, but this broke my heart. I hope he will be able to make music again, whether it's music I like or not.

He is one of the greatest Rockstar that ever graced the musical stage of worldly domain...we all love people who do the best to entertain and promote their good positive creativity, style and professionalism and good role models for all generations!!! Kudos! Rockstar Jimmy!

If Huey ever sees this... Huey, though we’re very opposite personalities, we’re both musicians and also fellow Cornellians. I’m classically trained at both Ithaca College and Cornell (1981-84) but also write songs in popular style. In many ways “The Power of Love” set a wonderful/hopeful tone for BACK TO THE FUTURE and, like all good film music, added just the right emotional depth-Thank You for such a great ‘feel good’ song with such a smart and well-expressed lyric! I’m so happy for you that you’ve had success in life and hope that much happiness has found its way to you too. Shades of Beethoven and Brian Wilson, Huey! Your hearing issues are beyond any commonly experienced or understood measure of frustration, I’m sure, and I say that as someone who’s been through chronic illness in life myself, including tinnitus. I do think there’s value in seeking out multiple opinions on health issues, and you probably already have done that. Even so, I wanted to share a perspective with you here which I think tends to apply to many, many health problems, including those for which medical science doesn’t yet know the cause: The human body is exceptionally complex/sophisticated and DESIGNED to heal itself whenever that’s possible. What makes healing possible are the right conditions and necessary resources for the body to make use of to carry out the healing process. Unless your hearing loss issues are due to some congenital situation, their sudden development (twice) means that something is interfering with the normal functioning of some part(s) of your body in some way that your body can’t fully address and heal with rapidity. Either your body doesn’t recognize the nature of the ailment, or its ability to heal the problem is being interfered with somehow. What does the body need to heal? Well, a properly functioning immune system; consistently sufficient nutrition, exercise, and sleep; and the ability to detect the ailment and address it to the extent that homeostasis monitors and seeks to correct such things, etc. The nervous system/spine are often key components in many ailments so looking at nerve health may be fruitful. Hearing loss/aberrations must occur relative to the hearing apparatus itself and/or to those parts of the body that process/interpret audio information. You are your own best observer of your symptoms and sometimes doctors miss or don’t take notice of key clues even when you dutifully report all known symptoms to them. As I say, there are health conditions that medical science doesn’t yet understand, or fully understand, in order to know how to BEGIN to devise and offer treatment for them. The most important part of what I wanted to say is this: The body is INTELLIGENT in its response to disease; treatments should work WITH the body to address the underlying cause rather than against it by only attempting to suppress symptoms; and EVERY SYMPTOM of what’s wrong MEANS SOMETHING if only it can be properly understood and ‘decoded.’ If you notice ANYTHING that either helps or worsens your symptoms it’s AN IMPORTANT CLUE of SOME kind, and there may be someone who can interpret such alterations in symptoms for you, although you may find such a person outside traditional (allopathic) healthcare. The bottom line is: Whatever helps HELPS, and there’s no arguing with success if you can find someone who helps your condition improve or even resolve itself. These thoughts do stem from dealing with chronic illness in my own life, and I hope they may be of help to you too, Huey. Best wishes, Don C. Indiana, USA

Huey Lewis and the news is one of the top in my opinion. I was a radio dj during the early 80s still love them. They sang the sound track to my life. I am in my sixties now . I have tinitus. It's loud. But it will not stop me from listening to Huey Lewis

Loved Huey in the 80's.... along with The News. They were great, and I've loved them ever since. Still ove Huey, and hoping his Life is mostly great... despite the hearing loss. Saw them in Kansas City, at Kauffman Stadium, at the conclusion of a Kansas City Royals baseball game. Afternoon baseball... and Huey Lewis & The News in the late afternoon / evening. Early summer 1996. It was AWESOME! I just happened to be traveling cross-country, and being in KC that week. Good times!

How tragic. To contemplate suicide? He’s an artist and singing is his life. I hope he can find a doctor that can help him. He has an unique voice and I would love to see him perform again. 🙏🏼

Huey Lewis and the News had (and may still have) the tightest and most musically solid sound of their genre. He added the "growly groove" to a studio quality band and produced a sound that was unmatched. I'm a music teacher who teaches jazz, theory and arranging/composition and I often refer to HL&N as being a clean, tight, yet fun band that was extremely musical in a time when most music being released was sloppy and inconsistent. I love this band and hope that Huey takes whatever time he needs to give us more.

My parents went to see a concert of his and when i found out they went without me i was so jealous. They said they would buy me tickets next year but that's when he was dealing with hearing loss and cancelled the shows. Hope he's doing ok, sad I never got to see them live

He has given and gave a great legacy, his music and songs, yes the happy and uplifting xx

I follow Huey Lewis and The News on FB and had to pull up the video of Power of Love (the featured song) since all that page does is post a picture. That led me here, great channel and great story too, Thank you.

I was on the same flight to Honolulu as Huey Lewis in 2008. My husband spoke to him briefly in the airport, where Lewis was sitting alone waiting for his driver.

The dork moderator neglected to MENTION that Billy Roberts ALSO recorded Hey Joe, a song that Jimi Hendrix rearranged, recorded and turned into a world famous hit in 1967.

So sad what he has gone through with his hearing loss.

Glad he’s gotten able to deal with his condition. He and the band helped define the music of the 80’s with their string of hits. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in the late 80’s, and it was a great show. Wishing the best for him.

He is a Survivor and has come through it all ... Bravo! Hearing loss is such a profound dilemma for a musician or singer.

He was in the band Thin Lizzy for a brief period, you overlooked that.

Huey Lewis & The News was my first concert, I don`t know what you to say if I never seen them. but, it put music into my Life. Without them I believe I would not be such a great music lover ! Thanks Huey ! it so hard to deal with a disability but all ways understand that people have a great deal to overcome some more then others and I truly respect that in him ! I pick one of the greatest band in the world to be the first, and I know I got that right !
