This is so satisfying to watch! Would be so funny to see it try and push the others out now with the size difference but I doubt it even has the strength to lift its head.
The issue is becoming that the cuckoo now looks much different than the other two. He is also much smaller, looking at the size of his mouth when he begs for food. With such a difference in how he looks, the parent bird will notice and see him as a stranger. With a mouth much smaller, he will be deemed weak and will not be fed.
This status quo was made possible with the help of a photographer along the way. Without it, all the chicks would have died except the cuckoo. It was humans, not gods, who changed the fate of this nest!
In what it's wrong for him to save them honestly ? We are know to make a lot of unatural things after all, helping little chicks that belong to that nest compared to this cuckoo, is not a big deal. At least he didn't throw the cuckoo.
No. The timing of the cuckoo hatching was off. It hatched too late. Normally it'd hatch before or closely to the others allowing the nest pushing to succeed in ousting the other chicks. However in this case the hatchlings were too big and the cuckoo simply couldn't. Instead it waste time and energy to try anyways because that's its nature to do so. In the end it only exhaust the cuckoo making it unable to compete for food. By the time the ousting instincts subsides, it is already too small and too undernourished to really stand a fighting chance.
Parasites are built that way either the conditions meet their way one way or the other so both cookoo parent and the chick are the same when it comes to parasite a nest they think they can bully and get their way😅
I love these parents they know the parasite isn’t theirs and now it’s paying the price for bullying and dosnt have the strength to even try getting fed
On the one hand, it's not like I have a personal grudge against cuckoos. They're just birds being birds, and whatever bad things they do, people do worse, and it's not like they're even MY birds, so what? On the other hand...seeing the tables turned with IT as the smallest and weakest thing in the nest and its SIBLINGS as the big ones that crowd it out still makes me happier than I feel like it should.
Con chim cu này đặc biệt nở sau ( thường thì trứng chim cu gáy nở ra trước các trứng khác ), trứng chim cu lần này đã nở sau ,cho nên nhỏ hơn...không đủ sức đẩy nữa. Cảm ơn
He is much younger than the others. It's a sad part of nature, the Cuckoos dropping eggs in other bird's nests. A lot of times the cuckoo is the strong one that throws their siblings out of the nests to die
The Cuckoo picked the wrong nest. Beak colours onnthe inside are wrong, parents know its not theirs. Sadly, it will die an be removed. If it manages to stay alive to see it's nestlings fledge, maybe then it will get fed? I hate cuckoo's, but not enough to let them die.
Reading some of the comments I feel the need to say some things (welcome to the internet!) Cuckoo eggs usually hatch 1st and punt the natural eggs out so they dont have any food competition, if the egg hatches around the same time the cuckoo punts the rival chicks...if non of that happens (I think the camera person interfered and replaced the natural chicks) then the cuckoo is smaller, grows slower and can't compete (because its survival strategy doesnt allow for this) it is out gapped(wide mouth) by the natural chicks The parent birds DONT RECOGNISE THE IMPOSTER....they just feed the closest and biggest mouth
As it just lies there and barely bothers to beg for food I'd say that coocoo chick is not long for this world....but if it dies the mother coocoo bird will seek revenge and kill the host bird s chicks! No win in this situation unless the nest is heavily guarded 😮
It is dying :) ❤️ hope you will show how the mother cuckoo will get its revenge and mauls the other two little weasels :) because that’s what’s going to happen :) ❤️
It looks like the parents are primarily interested in feeding the one healthy-looking check. Their other chick isn't growing either, looks like he will "kick the bucket" soon as well... Perhaps cuckoo dropped him on his head a few too many times? Kind of looked to me like the underfed brother is so used to the cuckoo lifting it up and tossing it around, it climbed on top of the dumb little thing & waited for his pushes lol 😂 I guess he dealt with it so much, maybe he thinks it's normal & supposed to be that way?
I dont think so, he kept putting back the chicks pushed out by cuckoo. In addition there are many times the cuckoo pushed at wrong direction, wasted too much energy. Cuckoo chick acted on instinct to keep on pushing, too exhausted and didn't beg for food enough.
to keep the nest clean from smells that attracts predators , some eat it , some store in their throat and spat further away from nest. i've watched a crazy parent fed it back into the chicks mouth
