I had graves disease, had radioactive iodine treatment and that was the end of that chapter in my life. But yea. I couldn't gain a pound to save my life, my blood pressure was sky high I could hear my heart beating in my ears, i was always in "exercise mode," and I had a goiter in my neck. It's curable. Thank God.
I had radioactive iodine myself. I will not recommend it because graves disease is an autoimmune disease. A good naturopathic doctor can treat without destroying the thyroid.
I have Graves’ disease, fibromyalgia & PTSD But it doesn’t stop me from doing anything! I take my medication & make myself get on with life! I work & do gym & lead a fairly active life & im 53yrs old & im doing better than most people my age!
Honestly , I needed to see this! I’ve been going back and forth about holistic vs medicine .. I want to live as long as possible, I just had a son and I can see that I may have to go ahead and give into the medicine. I hate being tired all the time and want to be active with him Your testimony was all I needed

Im 38 yrs old and i was diagnosed with graves disease 7 years ago and it really does mess with ur mental health especially when u loose weight. I have been through the ringer with this disease but God is great through it all. God bless anyone who has any type of illness.

Graves Disease is not a death sentence but it can be... let's make that clear. Missy started suffering with it in the early 2000's when we all first started seeing her drop weight. At that time people were criticizing her thinking she was trying to fit into that cookie cutter mold of the industries "beauty" standards or that she might have been on drugs. I was one of the first to say "no there's something else going on there and I'm going to wait until she's ready to talk about it..." I believe that's also one of the reasons she wrote the song "Gossip Folks." I was ecstatic when she finally revealed what was going on with her because it shut a lot of people up on speculating about her weight and appearance. On another note, Missy is, so far to date, one of the only artists who can go on hiatus, come back, and reclaim her spot as if she hadn't left... This is why I will forever LOVE her. She also didn't have to sell her soul, she just created a path for herself that no one could ignore and they either had to jump on board or get rolled over.
Right she was a Positive inspirational speaker n touched many with her music n that smile she always had on her face dont matter what pain she went tnrought she choice to have her private moments n folks Excepted her personal space, because she came hard for her fans n never dissed a fan n or turned them away. I respect her individuality. She has always had her own style and rode her own wave. In an industry that has often tried to place female rappers in a single box ,she dared to think outside the box and do it her way. She refused to be placed in that cookie cutter mode that other female rappers/ singers were placed in,and still created innovative feel good music.
I have been dealing with this disease for 10 years, it's difficult at times, but I went from 289 to 160 in a couple of months, I opted for the radiation treatment for my thyroid, now I take hormone replacement pills. And i suffer from extreme severe menopause symptoms. So I know exactly what she was/is suffering from. And the crazy thing is nobody in my family has it..I'm the only one. It's a struggle at times..and being tired is no joke while dealing with Graves diease..WOW..Missy birthday is 3 days before mine..

She has Hyperthyroidism(Grave Disease). My mom and dad has it. Not common in men. My aunt had it really bad Trinidad, while going through Emotional DV from her husband. Doctors cannot determine at that time years ago what was causing until they did an autopsy on her thyroid gland , it exploded due to stress. Five months later, he passed away as well. I have hypo -thyroidism , I gained weight with no eye bulging. I did lose hair, but I cut it super short. I did a lot of blood test until my thyroid came out normal due to eating a lot of sushi because of the iodine in it. I currently live in Japan now and my health has been increasing for the better thank God for that. I feel for Missy. I hope she gets well soon.

I am not she is not sick. I feel like the weight shaming and the taking of dietary supplements helped bring on the disease. We forget what we were doing when we get sick. For heavier people (not just women), they run to Dr's and medicine and these medicines and recommendations have the ability to help the body change dramatically especially even when you stop the usage.my wife had the lap band. I told her she didn't need it. It wasn't her health she was focusing on. It would have been said. It was what she felt like she wanted others to see when the looked at her. They say you have to follow a vigorous diet or change of life. She wasn't ready. She just knew the weight would come off fast. I really feel like if she would have done as instructed completely she would have died from it. Absorption of nutrients was compromised but not to the extent to kill her or hurt severely. Heavy drinking and hypertension were the causes of her death. But, the Absorption issue did not make it any better. I could go on for way longer but I will end this post by saying Love Yourself. If you want appearance change due to looking or feeling heavy do the work. Exercise eat healthy and the change will occur.
