I disagree strongly that Henvry VIII was cruel or horrible. I believe the artistocracy about him caused the majority of those problems. It was a corrupt cess pool he had to survive in, and the only way you do that is to cut out all infected parts are any parts that show symptoms of possible infection. Similar to Balkan politics. All of those atrocities are blamed on the monarch by the anti-monarchy historians who never blame the merchants, international interests, and aristocratic schemers. Little Catherine Howard was sadly used, abused, and destroyed by a very corrupt system in flux at the time.

It was quick they usually managed it with one sweep with the aristocracy. They didn't just hack away at it like they had to with the lower classes.

Henry was said to have received quite a nasty blow to his head during a jousting competition at some point in his life. That likely resulted in his mental illness. A similar thing happened to the Red Baron, too.

Oh, I need to say, as much as I think I know about the Tudor era from movies and books etc, so much of what you have shared has put such a personal touch on it, with incredible information. Chopping off heads has always just been, to me, the worst of worst. Maybe it was an old movie I saw as a child about Mary, Queen of Scots. I did not realize Jane Boleyn suffered the same fate as Anne. I cannot even imagine the mental anguish and torture Henry's victims went through. May he be met in hell by the devil himself! Like, 500 something years later, I am kinda pissed off on their account. What a complete and utter tool.

She wasn't kept as a sex slave. She was a young girl who partied like college students do today. She was unimportant with little dowry, and it wouldn't have been a problem if she hadn't been chosen for Henry. If she had stayed in the dormitory, she probably would have ended up marrying one of those young men. Lower status women were much freer to do what they wanted, because there was so little money involved.

Possible. I believe the start of Friday 13th as “unlucky” comes from the Knights Templar being arrested on that day in the early 1300s by the King of France and then tortured and executed. Interesting stuff and the origins of the tales of the Templars treasures that pop into Hollywood.

I also have seen where the Friday the 13th being a bad luck day traces it's origin to the Knights Templar. It's possible that this situation solidified that tradition.

Exactly. Henry was likely the one who was responsible for him not having many kids, since he had SIX wives and countless mistresses and only had a handful of living children.
