You know what I noticed, Solomon wasn’t on good terms with his brother which resulted in him being “hard” on Sebastian and calling him “his fathers son” as an insult. A similar story occurred in the Harry Potter stories where we instead have Petunia who despised her sister Lily for being a witch and therefore treated Harry cruelly in the end.

“For Sebastien, it was never the fear of unknown but the fear of known.” Can’t agree more. His thirst for knowledge and power was driven by the deep fear of being powerless to save the ones he loved. His blind optimism is a coping mechanism that protects him from losing to despair. I also blindly believed that the almighty student will come to save the day. To think that in the end, we even have the option to send him rote in Azkaban with dementors gives me chills, what an utter tragedy it is.

I love this interpretation, too. The game however, at times, suggests that Sebastian pursues the dark arts not only for healing his sister, but also.. because he enjoys it. I don't like how they wrote that tbh - I much prefer the interpretation that his way into the dark arts was fueled purely by his fear of what would happen to Anne.
@hesper1911
@hesper1911 Год назад
@@mikanchan322 Actually, this interpretation is not in conflict with his character of having the desire to pursue power. It merely attempts to understand the driving force of that zeal. In this case, the drive is not only a fear of the pain from losing loved ones but also an anger of being powerless to save them. That’s why his love had become selfish, and his devotion turned into an obsession.

i don’t blame sebastian. solomon has, as you said, clear resentment for his brother. and he takes that out on sebastian. sebastian says solomon himself used dark magic which is why he was kicked out of the ministry. so solomon understands the evil of it; but he doesn’t bother to teach sebastian in the slightest. he actively chooses to treat sebastian as a commodity he can get rid of, rather than a child he’s supposed to be raising. solomon took sebastian in, in a very literal sense. he feeds him and gives him a place to stay. but he doesn’t raise him. so all sebastian had was his put together family of ominis and anne. and then anne got sick. sebastian already lost his parents. he couldn’t lose anne. so he spent the best of the past two years looking for a cure, refusing to give up. even _if_ there is no cure, what harm is there in letting sebastian try, even when anne herself admits that she knows her curse will kill her? but solomon refuses to play along. and then solomon blames _sebastian_ for anne’s pain. and sebastian _apologizes._ then he removes himself to calm down. then, when sebastian saves anne’s life with an unforgivable curse, solomon yells at sebastian, kicks him out-disowns him; and forbids him from seeing his sister. this is not to say that sebastian’s severe actions didn’t require a severe response, just a different one. there is a lesson that could’ve been learned here-and solomon didn’t bother teaching it. solomon sallow is an abuser. he favors anne, while emotionally and mentally abusing sebastian. sebastian is scared of his uncle. rather than talking back to him, he apologizes, or says nothing at all. i went through a period of my life where my parental figures were abusing me in much the same way, and it almost broke me. i understand sebastian’s actions. was he wrong? of course he was. but i can’t blame a child for making an irrational decision during the most unstable period of his life. sebastian felt immediate remorse for what he did when he casted avada kedavra. yes, he tried to lamely justify it, but because he needed to make it “seem okay” in his head; he needed someone to tell him it was okay. he’s trying to pick up the pieces of something he broke and force them back together, because his life is falling apart and he needs the stability. when ominis, who is the only other person sebastian truly loves, his rock, couldn’t agree with sebastian’s actions, i think he felt genuine fear, realizing that he did this to himself and he has the live with the consequences. and he deserves whatever punishment he has coming to him. if you turn sebastian in, both ominis and anne regret it. ominis expresses that sebastian means a lot to him and nothing will be the same without him. anne says that even though she doesn’t know if she can forgive sebastian, she will always love him. so i think that there is hope of his sister and best friend coming around, if you keep his secret. things won’t be the same, but sebastian can only go up from here. he “can’t undo what he’s done, but he can try, every day, to make up for it”. i do hope that the developers continue his story, because i’d like the closure. sebastian deserves the closure. despite it all, i can’t help but feel sorry for him.

I honestly think Solomon gets more hate then he deserves. Sebastian did some pretty harsh things, lying and twisting words to his friends, raising Inferi that clearly could have gone out of control, they did attack the MC in the cavern while trying to find Sebastian and finally killing his Uncle, and no he didn't attack Sebastian first he attacked the Inferi which he probably thought were attacking his nephew and the MC. Also right before Sebastian finished him Solomon was clearly exhausted and on the defensive while Sebastian was doing all the attacking. I find it hard to believe a former auror could lose to the student unless he wasn't trying to fight back, and if you do some post game exploring you find Feldcroft actually all liked and thought Solomon was a good person including Anne who flat out stated in a note she missed her uncle. If he was such a bad guy Anne clearly would have wanted to get rid of him too.
@elid3630
@elid3630 Год назад
@@digitaladventurer2142 sorry this is so long. TLDR: it’s not a black and white situation. They both acted irrationally and made incredibly poor choices that ended badly and left a broken kid more broken and a man dead. I understand where you’re coming from to a point. When it comes to Ominis and not wanting to deal with dark magic after the scriptorium. That was shady. However, Sebastian’s intentions were clear, he was going to do whatever he could to find Anne a cure despite the warnings about the use of dark magic from Ominis. Solomon on the other hand just outright acted aggressively, even when no dark magic was involved. Our first introduction was him stealing the shrivelfig and destroying it in front of Sebastian, accosting him and his father, then blaming Sebastian for Anne’s curse affecting her despite the fact of knowing that’s not her pain works and him being the one who initiated the argument. It’s clear he wanted to drive Sebastian away. As for the relic I just don’t think Sebastian was powerful enough to control its power fully. His desire/ability to heal Anne didn’t match its power level. He seemed to think he was controlling them, not realizing it was only the ones in his proximity. We tried to tell him and talk him down before being interrupted. Then once again Solomon came in wand blazing and he did attack first, as far as Sebastian was concerned his uncle just attacked him because, again, believing he had control, those inferi were on his side so an attack at them was an attack on him/us. As for the fight between mc, Sebastian, Solomon, and the inferi, Solomon only really tried attacking us. I’ll admit he seemed to only attack Sebastian with levitation magic to prevent him from attacking while he was actively trying to kill us. If anyone was doing that man damage (not that Sebastian wasn’t attacking him) it was definitely us. But now us being there (and Sebastian knowing we’re not even 1 full year into using magic) and being attacked by Solomon, an ex-aura, Sebastian now has a reason to use offensive magic in defense of us, Anne, and himself. I’m not saying what Sebastian did wasn’t wrong. It’s just given his state of mind, wanting so desperately to save Anne and at every turn having this one person being the biggest antagonist, abuser, keeping them apart- to the point he was planning on taking Anne from Feldcroft and not telling Sebastian, he was going to abandon him, a child, and take his closest family member away possibly forever-, blaming him and treating him horribly for “being his fathers son”, and Sebastian truly believing that his uncle was going to be the reason Anne died I understand why Sebastian thought he was making the right choice. The residence of Feldcroft are probably right in their own views on Solomon. He’s lived there his whole life and has had decades to make friends and be apart of the community, of course they live him. But bad people can do bad things while being cherished by those around them. And of course Anne misses him, that’s still her uncle, he never that we saw, treated her like he did Sebastian. That was their last remaining family member.

@@digitaladventurer2142 this is just blatantly untrue sorry as ive said i was abused by parental figures in my life; as was my sister, and we both hate them. my youngest sister, however, was not abused by them, and adores them. she hates when we say bad things about those people. anne spends all her time with solomon and again is clearly favored by him. it makes perfect sense to me that she would love him and be frustrated by sebastian’s anger/hatred towards him. i won’t bother attempting to disprove everything you said about sebastian because you’re entitled to your own opinion, but i wholeheartedly disagree with you.

One thing though, there is a difference if you turn Sebastian in or not. When you reveal who actually cursed Anne, if you turn him in Ominous tells you that when he finds out it was Rookwood, Ominous tells you Sebastian now hates both Dark Wizards and goblins. If you keep it a secret, when you tell Sebastian it was Rookwood, his hate for goblins ends and he apologizes to you. So, it would appear that, if you turn him into Azkaban, he becomes even darker.

Exactly He's a 15 - 16 year old at the end of the day who ultimately let his emotions get the better of him and made a decision he regretted instantly, sending him to Azkaban won't fix anything it would only make things worse The game heavily implies that if you don't turn him in he turns away from the path he's been taking and gets the proper closure and chance to redeem himself and make himself a better person, what he did was wrong yes but him forever living with the guilt of what he did is punishment enough for such a young impulsive boy like himself

That's why I prefer when MC casted Crucio on Sebastian and Imperio on Ominis. This story is more complicated than just "manipulative Sebastian used Dark Arts and became evil". In this story at least three slytherins who are "ambitious, cunning, and achievement-oriented": Sebastian, Anne, and Ominis. And yep, Severus Snape killed Dumbledore with Avada Kedavra while willing not to do that. Harry Potter successfully used Crucio (in books) and Imperio. Draco was forced to use Crucio. And it is stated that someone can use Avada Kedavra being under Imperio. So may be there is a difference between "meaning it" and "willing it"?
@emmasilver2332
@emmasilver2332 Год назад
Yes! A lot of people, both in the Wizarding World and in the real world, confuse intent with desire. If I, for example, intentionally stab someone with a knife, it doesn't necessarily mean I have any desire behind it. It could just mean that I feel I have no choice. Same thing goes with the Unforgivables. Someone doesn't necessarily need to want to cast the spell, they just need to mean it. To intend it. If Draco actually wanted to cast the Cruciatus curse, Voldy wouldn't have had to threaten him into it. Snape has had a lot of time being in close proximity to Dumbledore, who trusted him completely. He could have killed him at any time. The fact that Dumbledore literally had to beg Snape to kill him (originally we thought he was begging the opposite but the truth became apparent once we get to see Snape's memories) proves that Snape didn't actually want to. I can imagine a desperate individual using Crucio to stop someone from harming a loved one, as pain is the world's most effective distraction, and the Cruciatus curse can probably cut through the defenses of pain inhibitors such as alcohol and opiates. All in all, I don't think any of the Unforgivables should actually be unforgivable. They should only be used as a last resort, yes. But even then I don't believe a teenager should face a lifetime in Azkaban for casting one.

That’s why this is so damn tragic. Even if they continued on with a Sebastian/Ominis/Anne storyline, where would they go? Sebastian lost Anne and undoubtedly Ominis too. It would have to be one hell of a redemption arch for Sebastian to get into back into even speaking terms let alone good graces. I’m here for it though. This is my favorite storyline. While I do see the manipulation from Sebastian’s side, even playing as a goodie two shoes and siding with Ominis, the fact that I can use not only ancient magic, which is a horrifically strong and devastating magic on its own. But I can use the unforgivable curses with no repercussions and to a greater extent which trivializes, for me, what he does.
@duncanshaw1256
@duncanshaw1256 Год назад
Worst of all by losing his family and his friend Ominis, Sebastian lost the best part of himself in the bargain. Victor Rookwood started all this by cursing Anne leaving Sebastian to believe the goblins had done it. Sebastian has had to live a lie all this time because of his family being murdered and his sister being under such a terrible curse. Tragedy often makes good people do the wrong things for right reasons known only to them. Evil in the cause of good makes the innocent suffer and at a price unforseeable and unfathomable.

@@elid3630 I see a lot of people on the fandom using AI to replicate their voices and it gives life to such interesting ideas!! Alright, since you asked... 👁️ We hc that Sebastian has begged Ominis to take care of Anne since she won't let Seb near her. We've imagined that Ominis promises to do so, and he and Anne agree for her to move to a sort of revalidation centre/health resort for chronically ill, traumatised (and aging) witches and wizards. In my imagination, some older witches and wizards "adopt" Anne as a sort of granddaughter and she finds a real community there which gives her a lot of comfort. The rest of the school year, MC and Ominis stick together but Seb largely avoids them (and they him, tbh). The two of them might visit Anne occasionally. I think it'll be summer until Anne even considers seeing her brother again, but she will eventually decide to face him - and I imagine it ends on a neutral to slightly positive note. It's got to be before that summer that Seb calls his friends to the Undercroft and gives them a very genuine apology - showing how deep his regret is for everything he has done and finally swearing never to return to the dark arts. Maybe all isn't forgiven yet - but after this the friendship can slowly start to heal. Edit: I'm sorry for this comment spam, OG commenter! Solomon was a terrible uncle. He should definitely be given credit for taking the twins in after their parents died, but the way he handled Sebastian consistently made the problem worse. He never tries to challenge Sebastian's views with reason. Instead he gets angry, yells a lot, and contradicts Sebastian. Sebastian is the one acting like an adult in the conversations while Solomon throws tantrums. Solomon was supposed to be a parent to the twins, it's the responsibility he took upon himself when he became their guardian. Yet when Sebastian needed him most Solomon pushed him away. If he had instead taken Sebastian under his wing, spent time with him, and tried to teach him valuable life lessons all the tragedy could have been avoided. And of course to make matters worse Solomon drives a wedge between the twins by choosing to start arguments and disparaging Sebastian in front of Anne. Solomon tried to be a parent when he clearly wasn't ready for it. Sebastian was neglected. We'll never know if Anne could have been cured because the spooky "dark magic" is just assumed to be evil even though we're never given a reason as to why that's the case. And sure maybe Solomon needs to be unreasonable for the conflict to work and Anne just doesn't want to get involved but we have the perfect character to explain the arguments against the use of the dark arts. Ominus. He can make the moral arguments to oppose what Sebastian is doing but he simply never does. All he says is that it's dangerous and that his family are cartoon villains who enjoy torturing muggles. That's a ridiculous point to bring up since Sebastian is acting purely with the intention of saving the life of an innocent. You don't convince someone that magic can't be used to save a life by telling them that lunatics use magic for evil.
@elid3630
@elid3630 Год назад
Absolutely! Sebastian views all magic on equal footing, as a tool that can be used for good or evil, intention matters. When he’s talking outside the catacomb after the murder of his uncle, about Solomon ruining Anne’s life I can see why he came to that conclusion. Up to that point all Solomon’s done, as you said, was isolate her from Sebastian and washed his hands if even trying to do anything for her. Cures aren’t found by doing nothing. Solomon inadvertently proved he didn’t care by giving up. He was even willing to abandon Sebastian, as evident from Anne telling us he wanted to leave Feldcroft which then forced Sebastian’s hand and caused him to act without thinking.

I honestly feel like the game needs good - bad decisions that do form the story. Like if you mess up some chat, you can't persuade them etc. For example something like Divinity original sin has, you can kill npc's and even get whole town against you by attacking them/stealing things you need to loot/purchase and face concequences for your moral grey acts. Even due it being your decisions, part of story you write yourself. Being able to follow Sebastian and embrace the dark arts would be very interesting way to see things. Also unforgivables of MC shouldnt be forgotten. As Seb is almost going to Azkaban we surely shouldnt be allowed to get away with anything.

I like how you point out that love in hogwarts legacy became a dark theme contrast to Harry Potter. I didn’t even notice that opposite take. I do like how they portrayed love becoming an obsession where they lose themselves (Sebastian and isadora) that they lose sight of who they love. A driving theme in life is that too much of anything is never good. Sebastian had too much love for his sister, it blinded him in becoming too selfish. Same with isadora. Very tragic and sad, but very realistic as this happens to people in real life all the time. Toxic relationships where someone says they love their partner so much, yet they’re actually being harmful to them. That’s what I thought of from seeing Sebastian and isadora’s stories. Also, when Anne says “you’ve made your choice,” that felt so powerful and painful. I just kept thinking and hoping that Sebastian will learn and change for the better. :’( my heart was breaking the whole time for him and his family.

Great video. He sure is an interesting character Tho there are a few things that still bug me with all of that: First is Solomon. I get that he’s raising the siblings on his own. He didn’t deserve to die. But he is partially to blame for Sebastian’s escalating behaviour. As an ex-auror there is so much more he could’ve done to stop a 15 year old to continue down that road. And constantly pushing him away and leaving feldcroft without telling him doesn’t fix anything, it makes it worse. Second is the « manipulation » part. While there was some suspicion, there’s more we go through with Sebastian than just this. The duelling club, the hogsmeade trip, all the lines during the quests. Even cutscenes where he interacts with other friends in class. I just don’t think we would be given all of this, if None of them were just genuine friendship. All of these were the reasons everyone got attached to him in the first place. He did do Ominis wrong this 5th year, sure, but that doesn’t mean both of them threw all those years of friendship down the drain. The way Sebastian reacts when we say we want to learn Imperio just to use it on Ominis, proves he still cares a lot about him, even if he doesn’t realise he hurt him. Even when we consider turning him in, he says he’s glad he met us. It all comes to the first time we meet his family as he just brings Anne a fig a wanted us to meet her. No dark intentions there. That Sebastian isn’t the same as the one who holds the relic a few months later. If we turn him in he feels hatred only for the same enemies not towards us or Ominis or Hogwarts. Third is the difference between the endings. Why would he react differently depending on who tells him about Rockwood? If we don’t turn him in, he changes his mind about goblins, gives an honest apology and actually admits letting everyone down. But if you turn him in we don’t even get a cutscene to see him being expelled. It upsets me that it’s only Ominis who get to talk to him last and not the Mc. But also, he only feels more hatred towards dark wizards. It’s like a way of telling us this isn’t the canon ending. Whatever the final decision, I don’t think Sebastian can avoid whatever’s coming to him. Arrested or not he is bound to end up alone eventually and only then will he reflect on everything he did. (My theory is that if he is arrested and then liberated of escaped, he will become a fugitive who tracks dark wizards. ) It only depends if the writers would give us the option to pick up where we left off. Or they’ll take the lazy route and give us just one situation to go through.
@mikanchan322
@mikanchan322 Год назад
Yeah, I can't see the whole manipulation argument. If anything, Sebastian is so charming because he is genuine - he never tells Ominis he'll stop pursuing dark magic, he's honest about his intentions the whole way through. I know!! They gave us this rare ability, showed us someone removing pain but not properly/safely applying what they learned and then saying that they/we are evil if we try to do it. Then they intend that we keep all of that pain stored, for what? For who? So another Ranrok or Rookwood can attempt to open it for themselves and try to take over? Why can’t we learn from Isadora but find a way to not remove all emotions? And I think when Isadora removed pain she was trying to take all pain. Not specifically from the loss of her brother. There has to be a middle ground. Although, with it being so new I wouldn’t want to use Anne as a test subject and make it worse.
@brendan9868
@brendan9868 Год назад
Reason it doesn’t come up is because the memories make it clear you can’t truly remove someone’s pain. Doing so will leave them a shell of who they were and as seen with Isidora’s father has severe consequences. The characters ancient magic wouldn’t be the answer, plus the keepers would just flat out refuse to help when this is the exact reason they killed Isidora. However I don’t think you would need ancient magic, breaking curses isn’t unheard of as there are literal curse breakers in Harry Potter like Bill Weasley. They now know it wasn’t a goblin who cursed her, so theoretically they could now more accurately diagnose the curse and potentially reverse it. It’s also entirely possible that now that the man who cursed her has died, it could simply fade away over time. Curses like this aren’t very explained to my knowledge, but there are ones shown to end when the caster dies like Voldemorts curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position.

I really like your analysis here. There's one thing I take issue with, though - the angle of Sebastian as a manipulator. I think he's far from it. From the first, he's honest about his goals (that he'll do anything to save Anne) and he is constantly upfront about exploring the dark arts. When you first meet him as a Slytherin he already suggests that there are spells that professors won't teach, but that he thinks should be taught. Sebastian is genuine, which makes him so charming. He wears his heart on his sleeve and if anything is easily swayed by his emotions rather than masterfully controlling them to influence you. He shows his anger and jealousy at you easily, to the point it almost pushes you away from him (by the cave along the coast). A manipulator would hide this anger and act in a way to draw you in closer rather than push you away. He doesn't lie to Ominis about the dark arts either, the most he does is try to hide it from him. He never promises his friend to stop pursuing the dark arts. In conclusion, I think being a manipulative mastermind is actually the antithesis of Sebastians character.

I’d like to think that Ominis views Anne as his own sister and would absolutely take care of her even though Anne wouldn’t want to see Sebastian. She would still want to know and make sure he’s ok. I think finding a place for Anne to go where she’s surrounded by others who are in similar situations, who may be able to help ease her grief and pain would help her grow and help to come to terms with why Sebastian did what he did being surrounded by supportive people. Being surrounded by a good group of people can really help boost the spirit in hard times. I like the idea of Ominis and the mc becoming closer over this. Build up their relationship and come to terms with the choices we made to get us here. I think it’ll also do Sebastian some good to be able to reflect on everything that happened and “get away” and be able to come back to us better than ever. I can tell he’s regretful and wishes he can undo what he’s done. I know he’ll make good on his word to try and make up for the things he’s done, to all of us. This sounds really lovely. @@elid3630 Yes!! Honestly, I think the game didn't make Seb sound NEARLY regretful enough. I understand that he's the type to try and justify his bad decisions even if he does feel guilty about them, but I wanted a more overt guilt and panic. Killing someone is something that I imagine having a very serious emotional impact, let alone if that person was your family. I'd love to see a slow redemption arc for him! I also HC that the MC doesn't actually kill Rookwood, but he ends up in prison. This way, Seb has a chance to confront him about what he did to Anne. I’d love to see a really nice redemption ark for Sebastian. I think we’ll see a lot of maturity come from this and perhaps a better apology. Not just to us, but to Ominis, and hopefully straight to Anne. Oh that would be lovely! I enjoyed that episode of ATLA. It showed a lot of courage and strength for Katara to stand up to the man who killed her mother. It's all so tragic to be honest. Solomon honestly drove me mad. No doubt he cared for Anne - and Anne loved him in turn - but the way he handled Sebastian's situation left so much to be desired. You mentioned it, but I think he does hold a level of resentment for his late brother and just sees too much of Sebastian in him that he can't stop himself from lashing out. He had personal experience with dark magic - he should have been trying to educate him, not shouting him down at every given moment. The shrivelfig scene is a direct parallel to what happens later with the relic - it's clear where Sebastian's headspace is at in that moment. Solomon kept stripping Sebastian of agency until he had nothing left but rage. I disagree that Sebastian is 'using' the player from the start. At the start, I think he is just intrigued about the new student who can kick his butt. When he shows the player the Undercroft, he admits to some feelings of loneliness and nostalgia - I think he's trying to recreate some of what he's lost with the player. If you turn him in, Ominis even says "I know you two became close". He wouldn't say that if your relationship was that hollow. The player and Sebastian have grown to care for each other, imo. Sebastian also evidently still cares about Ominis - even if he isn't in the right state of mind to be a good friend to him. If you choose to imperio him, he is regretful and feels awful about it. Unfortunately, he is willing to do whatever it takes, and it's not until he hits rock bottom (losing Anne) that Sebastian fully realises what he's done. He then stops deflecting and takes ownership. I fully believe - if not turned in - he can improve. His dialogue suggests it, whilst if you turn him in, its seems to be the opposite.
@mikanchan322
@mikanchan322 Год назад
This!! I still think Sebastian using the killing curse was very poorly written. The way he does it now, Solomon is already weakened and stumbling- he is not an immediate threat. They're having a conversation. It doesn't feel like Seb shouts the curse in a fit of rage, or being completely cornered. It looks much too intentional and calculated. I would've much preferred if they had Seb use the killing curse in the middle of the fight, or perhaps when Solomon seriously hurts him or the MC - or even threatend to take Anne away right that moment. Something that drives Seb over the edge, that makes him feel so corneres that he sees no other way.

Well Solomon did have the intention of taking Anne away, (which also implied an intent to abandon Sebastian- meaning he was willing to leave a child with nothing and no one, he already “banished” Sebastian from Feldcroft and was still going to take Anne away) Anne was stalling him until we could go to the catacomb. Unfortunately, I think it all became to much and Sebastian felt so out of control he called Anne to him without Ominis or us present. The original plan was for him to get Ominis to come and all of us were to figure out how to make a dark sacrifice but maybe something happened that pushed Sebastian to act without thinking and using the relic before he really had a grasp on it. Which is why he could only control that small group of inferi and not the whole catacomb (that and he’s only a kid and not powerful enough to have controlled more) This is more evident in the fact that Ominis was surprised that we weren’t with him already in the catacomb. He knew we were going with Sebastian behind his back, even if we wanted Ominis to be involved.

I wish the developers would delve into more detailed about how to use the spell book and relic to cure Anne's curse to demonstrate the true cost of dark magic. For example, a spell to cure Anne would cost someone else's life, or something to that effect, to showcase why it should not be attempted or sought out in the first place. Perhaps it would end Anne's curse but took her youth (something like what happened to Professor Hecat), or maybe forces Sebastian to choose between killing another person to power the cure or stop. I mean, so much story potential and character building there, and I felt like they just miss a trick here.

Solomon was literally trying to kill them both, I'm surprised he didn't succeed with all of the fire and the inferi so for me you could argue maybe the killing curse is a bit much but Sebastian really only acted in self defence. If using unforgivables and killing makes you evil then Harry Potter himself and most of the main cast are pure evil because every single one of them used unforgivable curses and Harry killed multiple people himself. Harry straight up tried to cast Crucio on Malfoy and resorted to Sectumsempra when it failed. He was no saint himself.

I won't say he acted in self-defense but more by despair. He thought he finally found something for curing his sister and Solomon broke all his hopes. I kind of agree with him by thinking dark magic could be the solution for curing Anne because, after all, we use venom for making remedies against it

To me, it’s horrible that Sebastian had enough anger and hate in his heart to cast the spell. His use of imperio was intended to stop the goblin from killing Anne (Can’t say that about using it to kill the goblin after) so is, in my opinion, forgivable. The use of the killing curse was unnecessary but could be excused due to his mental state, but - like said - was made from partially-evil intent. But, for the most part, it did seem to stem from pure panic and desperation for Anne. It had noble intent at its centre, if not slightly selfish and due to Sebastian’s NEED for Anne for his own sake. So, overall, I agree with him not being in the wrong (although still needing help mentally, as that was a factor in what he did).

I think the ending is a little more hopeful than a lot of videos suggest. Seb definitely regrets what happened and if you go back to Feldcroft, there’s a letter to him from Anne saying she needs time. To me, this suggests there’s hope. I have no respect for anyone that betrays Seb by handing him in. Yes, he was in the wrong but we go around using Crucio on enemies left right and centre, as well as killing multiple enemies. It would be hypocritical to turn him in and he doesn’t deserve to lose his future. His guilt is punishment enough.

My first playthrough I was totally on Seb's side and sympathetic. I started to get a bit unsure of him as the quest went on and after he killed his uncle and he says "Anne, what have YOU done" he lost me. On my next playthroughs I have been team Ominis in every dialogue even though it doesn't change anything.

Ugh I just wish they wrote Seb to have more remorse at the end! But the way he just stubbornly tries to blame it on others is... chilling. It was at that point, too, that I understood he was not meant to be sympathetic or forgiveable anymore. (which I don't think was the game's intention?)

The problem with Sebastian is that he was one-track minded, unable to weigh the consequences of his actions and blinded by his desire to cure Anne. He believed the end justified the means and was willing to do anything, even resorting to the Dark Arts. And that’s the paradox of it all. When do the ends stop justifying the means? The Dark Arts are a slippery slope. Power is like a drink; the more you have, the more you want and there’s few who can handle it. You get a taste of it and soon you grow to like it. Solomon knew that, that’s why he left the Ministry. Ominis knew that, that’s why he left his family. Sebastian didn’t recognize it, despite all the warnings around him. He may have had good intentions, but the way he went about it drove him down a dark path until he reached the point of no return.

In my mind, my Ravenclaw MC ending was: Anne decided to turn her own brother in, Ominis feels guilty and doesn't do much but to tell what's about to happen to the MC. Just before Anne reached for the authorities, the MC arrives at the Sallow's house with Ominis to talk to Anne and resolves to tell her that he agrees that Sebastian must learn the lesson but NOT by going to Azkaban. The MC offers a better solution: he will cast the unbreakable bow on Sebastian... he will swear to never use dark magic again unless his life is at risk, he will swear to cease searching for a cure for Anne's curse unless she forgives him and agrees to the pursue's terms, and finally, he will swear to clean his actions by assisting in the wizardling world's sake. The keepers trusted the repository to the MC and he promised to keep it safe. With Sebastian by his side, the MC will defend Hogwarts and the repository forever. No goblin, dark wizard or any other being will ever use that power for their means. It is somewhat similar to what Dumbledore did with Severus Snape... drag a soul full of errors to do right and redeem himself, using his power for the forces of good.

Fantastic video! I haven't gotten to that part of the game yet. I was wondering if Anne could be saved and what happened to him. Don't you have to want to kill someone to use the killing curse? From the fandom page: "It is possible that the Killing Curse, in addition to requiring the caster to be a very skilled witch or wizard, also required a genuine willingness and at many times desire to commit murder. Bellatrix Lestrange seemingly implied this was true of the Unforgivables, and it was true of the Cruciatus Curse, but not so much with the Imperius Curse." I just don't think Sebastien could kill his uncle unless he really wanted too, It wasn't and couldn't be an accident.

Yeah that’s true he did have to mean to kill his uncle but how many times in life have you really meant something and then that thing came to fruition, only for you to regret making that choice. It doesn’t have to be murder of course but you can really mean something 1 moment and the second you get what you want immediately regret it.

The whole subplot makes little sense. If Rookwood wanted Anne out of the way so that she didn't blab what she saw, what would the point of giving her such a malingering curse? (Also, what was his damage against kids?) And there is literally no reason it should be incurable. Rookwood's death should have ended the curse on Anne, or barring that, the MC could have used Isidora's technique of removing pain to literally take the curse out, as that's just what the curse was; pain. Perhaps Rookwood's ancestor could have shed light on a curse that was a sort of 'family secret'. Or at the very least, Rookwood could have been captured instead of killed and interrogated until he provided the countercurse. Would the little waterfall in Gringotts that 'washes away all enchantments' have worked on her? That's goblin magic, not wizard magic, and Rookwood could very well have learned how to cast the curse itself through his association with goblins, which would make it a neat way to undo it.

I was pretty sure our ancient magic will be the solution for curing Anne. After all, her pain was physical and not emotionnal
