Welcome to Canada's house band! The Hip as we call them in Canada never really broke into the U.S market. Yes, I do suggest watching a live version as Gord Downie is an amazing front man. A lot of their songs were based on true Canadian events. Unfortunately Gord Downie passed from the same type of brain cancer as Neil Peart the drummer from Rush did. The Hip did one last concert tour before Gord Downie passed. The last show of the concert was broadcasted live across Canada on television and something like a third of Canada ( including myself) watched it. It was very emotional. I've heard a saying about the hip that I really like. Rush is the band canada shared with the world. The hip is the band we kept for ourselves. Lol

I, like a lot of middle aged Canadians, am still listening to the Hip. I've got every album by them. Their sound changed over the years, but some of the stuff they did the early to mid 2000s are asking my favorites. The albums "In Violet Light" and "In Between Evolution" in particular had some great songs.

huh, the explination I heard was it was about a time they got drunk in New Orleans sicne they recorded there a bunch. Though from my searches online I think it mgiht partially be that and aprtially be just a love letter to New Orleans as a party city full fo rich cultural history.

I didn't know this song was a hit. I first heard it about a year ago, and it's the first of 2 songs that I've heard by them. I like this one, the second one not so much.
