Cheers to tramily support! Bravo to your progress and confidence. I applaud your improvisation in avoiding climbing down the stream trail. Good safety move. It doesn’t have to be a clear day for the beauty of nature to shine. The views you have shone have been gorgeous. You have offered so many stunning views on this hike. Thanks. Be well. Wishing you peace and fair weather ahead. Happy Trails!

The confluence of jet streams combined with the topography in this region make for some of the worst weather around. But when the clouds break beneath your feet, it's just magical. Even watching you walk through this area reminds me of how deeply connected I am to that forest. Thank goodness you guys didn't have to post-hole that snow. Conway is beautiful and worth a zero. 😊 Rest those knees Nyx ✌️

Good for the three of you. You endured steep uphills and steep downhills, a constant drenching rain, cold, and very rocky trails. You are all beasts!

Plastic bags and rubber bands take up little space in your backpack. Slide your boots into a bread wrapper, up your leg and then rubber bands to hold them on your calf. (Might help in the deeper waters.)

Almost succumbed ,to that ridge in August 92 ,had an 8olb army duffle bag with shoulder straps. The wind gusted 6o. Mmph snow. And sleet in my face ,so long over that ridge and down below the trees ,then up the steep and wet Mt Garfield hanging on to crumhost and that wet climb down to the shelter that's been replaced all alone and the mouse that got into my sleeping bag and bit me on the toe ,and the bear that also visited ,,was hopeing you'd have better weather ,unfortunately doesn't look clear for the next couple of weeks ,maybe you'll get to come back sometime to enjoy it ,in better weather, not sure what your plans are on your decent from Katadyn but I recommend over the knife edge ,down to roaring brook . Enjoy maine !!!!!

Long trip to Conway from the trail. The runoff from the melting snow made the river crossing difficult. In mid summer, they are no problem at all. I have never seem water gushing over the trail and the entrance to the trail to the shelter.

Good thing Jesse Pinkman and Badger are there to boost morale! But where’s Skinny Pete?! He’s probably passed out next to a bong in the shelter. Jesse got better at hiking after spending all that time in Alaska. They are on their way to Walt’s hideout log cabin in New Hampshire where he has a recipe for a more refined cook. As Tuco Salamanca would say, it’s “tight”.

Bummer that you didn't see a moose on the Z-falls trail. There's lots of them through that area but sometimes they will stand in the middle of the trail, not move off the trail and there is no way to go around them. I'm so glad you hit the Z-Falls trail when it's not raining because some of the brooks turn into impassible raging torrents that crossing requires going waist deep in fast moving water. You're all doing awesome!

A good cry? Good idea... "There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love." Washington Irving. Great views, once the weather cleared, a bit - been there many times. Be well, stay safe. And remember, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." Neale Donald Walsch.

What an introduction to the presidentials! You are very close to Mt. Willard that has a weird cave on the cliff face with no access. Its called Devil's Den. Rumor has it that it was home to a large prehistoric bird. Native American legends speak about how a large carnivorous bird carried off a young woman when she was alone. Her lover was heartbroken and offered himself as a bait to the bird. When it struck him and carried him off, other members of his tribe were able to shoot it down. I have been trying to get a picture of this cave from rt302 but cannot get a good angle. Thinking that this might be a good time for a drone... 🙂
