Louisiana Cajun culture has a traditional form of alternative and complimentary medicine known as traitement which is a form of faith healing performed by healers known as traiteurs. This form of folk medicine is found primarily among the Cajun population in the Acadiana area of Louisiana. Being a traiteur and practicing traitement is a practice which follows traditions based on a philosophy, a way of life and a practice deeply rooted in rural Louisiana communities. Traiteurs are practitioners of a unique form of faith healing known as 'traitement' that often uses a blend of prayer, ritual gestures, and natural remedies. This isn't only about healing; it's about the cultural response to illness, the interaction of a community with its environment. a harmonious blend of prayer, ritual gestures, and natural remedies. The traiteurs, or healers, use the power of prayer to channel positive energy and invoke divine grace. It's a holistic approach that sees illness not just as a physical ailment but as a disruption of the harmony between the individual and their environment. It's about restoring this balance, this sense of well-being that extends beyond the physical realm. it's not just a job or a profession, but a vocation, a calling if you will. The traiteurs are driven by a deep sense of duty and commitment to their community.

Since you have the family history you might be able to train with another healer to learn some of the traditions.

Not many people outside of French speaking areas know about this tradition (or at least live in areas heavily influenced by French traditions). Thanks for watching 👍

I love your food videos but I'm sad you gave a platform to a bunch of woo-woo nonsense that could prevent sick people from seeking actual medical help

Alterrnative and complimentary medicine is not a substitute but to be used in combination with modern medical care. Placebo is a very real effect that both traditional and complimentary healthcare traditions get great effect from. There is plenty healthcare research that shows good results with statistical significance from using all these forms of healthcare. I have personally conducted research as part of one of my masters degrees that showed significant results from traditional healthcare methods similar to this. So the data shows there is more going on than woo woo and it isn't all nonsense. There are plenty of hucksters and frauds out there but there are plenty of proven things that are well researched. Many healthcare providers are very supportive of traditional healing methods as our modern medical technology can do some things well, especially in the acute realm but for chronic conditions we have learned a LOT from traditional healing traditions. When I had a graduate assistantship with the U of M Research Institutes of Pharmacy and Department of Anthropology there was research being done onto a Traditional Chinese Medicine herb that raised or lowered the blood pressure of the person being treated and the mechanism of how that worked so well at an individual level was never really determined. So we have a LOT of things of value to learn still.

Your video is misleading and quite repetitive. Showing clips that are clearly not Louisiana or its people only creates false impressions. Be authentic or don’t be.
