This is a way around, that ultimately enforces the ego by supplementing it with subconscious insights. It's is still ego-driven. But there is another way to the unconscious, which is based on dismantling the conscious by reducing all presupposed ideas to absurd. It was used by Madhyamaka Buddhists, especially Nagarjuna. By reducing conscious reasoning, its main features are revealed, including the driving force, which is belief in understanding. In other words, as long as there is something we believe exists and can be understood to be ultimately true, it will create and fuel the ego. Reasoning can be stopped only through itself, through understanding, because that is how it assesses value. You can temporarily disable it by psychedelics, or meditation, but it will return. Even after years of doing both, one will not get liberated from it. Going through unconscious can enhance ego, which can be beneficial in a short, conventional way, but ultimately, it will make it even more difficult to liberate oneself. Only ego is powerful enough to be able to liberate itself from its subconscious fear of death, and it does that by recognizing it own existence as something presupposed.
