My mother was born in Pudong in 1926. She said it was dirt poor, beyond description. Now, in 2021, it has grown to become the pride of Shanghai, prosperous beyond belief. What else but a miraculous transformation from Earth to Heaven, orchestrated by a nation bent on improving the livelihood of its people.

What a great video. I've lived in many countries, but for the past 13 years, Shanghai has been my home. I do not want for anything. And yet my aging mother still calls me up when she hears Western media reports of blackouts and empty supermarket shelves. Truth is, I've never experienced a blackout, and even during the dark months of the early 2020 Covid 19 lockdown, the government made sure everyone was safe and supermarkets were stocked. Shanghai, much like most other cities in China, is a bustling metropolis with amazing infrastructure, great schools, clean air (yes it was bad for a while), and a wonderful safe environment to raise my daughter.

Shanghai was the economic center in East Asia for centuries long. People thought Shanghai is just another new city with minimal historical importance, but this idea is totally false. It encapsulates the very nature of China as a civilization throughout the human history - that China has always been under the spotlight on the world stage. China was great and influential 1000 and 2000 years ago, and even during its darkest history since 200 years ago, it had always remained important that way. Now the country and its people are all heading in the right direction, united and bonded with the same vision in mind, China and the Chinese people will remain one of the most celebrated civilizations in the future world.

Almost all videos of Shanghai showcase mostly Pudong skyline. I get it its very impressive but Huangpu District with its ultra dense cityscape across the river is equally impressive too. I wish to see more of Huangpu skyline.

I always dreamed to live in Shanghai, to become a Shanghainese when I was young. In 1980s and earlier, people needed Hukou, residential certificate to able to earn living in Shanghai. Since 2000, She has become much open city.

my ancestral family (Paternal+Maternal) are Ningbonese+Shanghainese (my maternal grandfather had businesses in Shanghai and rest of China; I was told he owned the "first Buick (car) in Shanghai", it was a rare luxury to own import USA cars back in the 1930's)

Shanghai is good for sure, but its' house price is just crazy as hell, only suitable for Chinese rich people to live there.

That right, but the average salary in Shanghai is also significantly higher than other areas in China, which means as long as you have the skill to find a decent job in Shanghai you should be able to live there (but yeah the pressure is higher there)
