The connection between transparency and “the loss of distance” is brilliant, and I love the notion that a world where “everything must be transparent” will not allow expertise or the “distance” of which can incur honor. If we must work and practice something to be good at it, that goal is considered “hidden” from us, and thus betrays the spirit of the age; as a result, it can be met with skepticism and distaste. This is a problem, for what can be honored where nothing can be treated with “the respect of distance?” Hard to say. Also, that was a blow-out point on how a “transparent society” has no place for art, only pornography. That made me think of one of my favorite scenes in literature with Fatima in The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andric, a true masterpiece I hope to write on one day. Anyway, excellent work Davood!

Love all of this. “No place for art, for beauty, it turns it into pornography.” (paraphrasing your words) ❤

I've written a significant amount on the subject of distance and proximity in terms of epistemology in connection with Heidegger and Derrida. I really liked your analysis and noted your Being and Time reference. I'm curious to know more specifically where your understanding of distance derives from and what further thoughts you have on the subject. So as not to write an essay in your comments section I'll leave off with a few distance quotes to reflect on. “Perception is strong and sight is weak. In strategy it is important to see distant things as if they were close and take a distanced view of close things.” - Miyamoto Musashi “Seeing requires not only time but distance. You cannot see anything until you are clear of it.” - Henry David Thoreau “Longing is the agony of the nearness of the distant.” - Martin Heidegger

Thanks for your comments and for these beautiful quotes, that reveal the ambiguities and complexities of living in space. My thinking on the subject isn't as focused or sophisticated, though I have been meaning to do a close reading and discussion of Gaston Bachelard's book for some time (The Poetics of Space). I'd appreciate it if you could point me to any of your work, blogs, videos, books, etc.

@@DavoodGozli I have also, relevantly for this video, an exposition on clarity (as it stands in a synonymous fashion to transparency). docs.google.com/document/d/16MuDd4z6aWdQalg6DZITV0d8tBM52F-5BaOzHvnJQkA/edit?usp=sharing Looking forward to your exposition on The Poetics of Space!
