I chuckled with the cat, giggled with your husband's "hot" assessment, and out right laughed with the "I'm not going to name and shame..." then proceeded to name and shame. I always love your videos. ❤

Hi there, you two! You are so funny, I love your creations. You often approach common " book tube tropes" from an original angle! The cover I find the most baffling is Persuasion. Wow, 25 cents for a new book. Minerva could have a good solution...just put her on every cover: beautiful book. 😃

You make me feel better about my quest to own every edition of Pride and Prejudice that strikes my fancy.

Love this idea! Covers from the 50s were great too. Book covers tend to reflect their contemporary societies, irrespective of the books themselves (not talking about collector editions).

I love vintage covers, and trashy covers. Much better than the modern and polished covers they make today.

I didn't know Oscar Wilde had short stories! I must get my hands on a copy, wonky cover or not! 🤩 Your commentary on Dracula has me crying 😂😂 You're savage, and I love it 😂 HI MINERVA!!!!! ❤❤ Book covers are wild sometimes. This video was so fun.

Ahh, I have that copy of "I Am Legend"! It's been years since I've read it, but, no, I do not think that's a scene from the book at all. It's reminiscent of the final scene in the Will Smith adaptation, but the style is still very different, but mostly I think they were just trying to get the message across that there was a widespread disease inspired by zombies and vampires. I don't mind the cover. It's very pulp fiction-looking to me, which I feel the text certainly leans into in terms of style. I had a good laugh seeing it on your list though xD That "Persuasion" cover was also very amusing! I didn't get the impression that that was an image of Anne though. My first thought went to that girl who jumped off the stairs to get Captain Wentworth to catch her, but who knows for sure??

The Persuasion cover is truly revolting in a Thomas Kincaid painting sort of way! @Minerva: Psspsspsst! 😊

Back in the day, when I was a child, a sterling silver quarter dollar would buy you a sandwich and a cup of coffee. What inflation are we talking about? And you're correct, that was Lydia B. or Isabella Thorpe, not Miss Anne.

Really enjoy your content. I appreciate that you value reading over collecting. You’re among the top 3 in the reading community online in my opinion. Thank you for your really enjoyable videos.

Yes that I Am Legend cover is hideous but man was it good. Thanks for the rec. I finished it last week. It was my first horror and second sci fi. I read the Time Machine right afterwards- loved it! Great video!

Did the publishers not explain to the designers that the covers are meant to attract prospective buyers? I suppose the cover I least like on my shelves is the 2010 edition of Hawksmoor by Peter Ackroyd which I hope to reread in the not too distant future. Looking at your books I would say Dracula and Silas Marner share the spoils.

Randomly I decided to look up the value of 0.25 and it is apparently about $18.37 or 16.77 Euros. Not a cheap book. Minerva steals the show!

That art on I Am Legend actually seems to turn up on multiple editions. I don't mind it but I HATE the Gollancz SF Masterworks version from that time when they reprinted a bunch of the titles in that line with the same art but with new mutated colours. They're some of the worst covers I've ever seen and that edition of IAL is one of the worst of the lot. Possibly the worst example of this sort of thing is the original Signet paperback of Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four from 1950 (they continued to use it for years after). Great pulpy art, doesn't exactly represent the book well...

I had a job in the publishing industry (briefly, but it had a huge impact on my life) and I can honestly say that JUST AS LITTLE THOUGHT goes into book covers as you would reasonably assume, based on the outcomes. The whole industry is based on the notion of earning more money (relative to the cost of labor) by minimizing effort from the top down.
