As a curly (and proud!) haired gal, I find the best thing to do when it’s humid is to just go with it. There’s no point straightening your hair if it’s just going to fluff back up again. Put it up. Sleek it back. Do a messy up-do but don’t bother fighting it. You won’t win!
I live in Hawaii. No more round brush or flat-irons for me. And I just canceled an appt for a Brazilian blowout. I actually encourage the curl now. Life is just so much easier! And I have more time to do whatever. ☺
misswhiskeykittie I just returned from Turkey and the heat made my hair so woolly. Hairdresser there told me my hair very porous. I remember once the humidity in Thailand was so bad I really did look like Monica on that episode of Friends when she stepped off the plane in Barbados 🤣
40 years ago I used to get my hair straightened and they just used a perm that they use to curl hair and just brushed it straight during timing. It smelled like a perm because it was
Its a "Cruel Cruel Summer" for my hair, but your hair looks "Goddess On The Mountain Top" beautiful(sorry I went there LOL some of us get the reference)and if it's in your budget, why not as you said it's worth it to you. Thanks for sharing.
Nadine, I always enjoy your videos. I get Keratin and you are sooo right! Last time, 2 months ago, my hair was so damaged that I wanted to strangle my hair stylist. Thank God for Olaplex 3! Due to my exasperation I used it at home and to my surprise it completely repaired my hair back to its original shine and now you see the "straightening"..
I’m 46 and find your videos informative and also a hoot. I lived for dulcie vitality perms in the 80’s... great advice xx bananarama!! 🤣🤣 going to look up the brush. Xx
I am an American living temporarily in England. My hearing is super thick and has the same curly, wavy, frizzy texture you described. Last week I had the Keratin treatment my girl at Toni and Guy in Guildford, UK offered me and 😮 I swear I heard angles singing when I looked at my smooth hair! was so excited that this worked as well as the very first straightening treatment I had before USDA banned formaldehyde. I have another year living abroad and I swear I am determined to smuggle some of this magic home to the US. It is so good.
80s girl, right here! I totally get your references; I had perms and LOVE Bananarama! Oh, and how I fight the frizz, which is just as your was, IS, that I use the Apothecare Essentials in the Vanilla, Argan Oil, and Sweet Almond Formula, Cleansing Conditioner(Instead of Shampoo), and the accompanying Conditioner. Then, flat iron my hair, ONCE, and it is just as smooth and flowing as yours. When I used to use Shampoo and Conditioner, my hair would stay slightly frizzy for several days of straight ironing, before it would finally become smooth and flowy. Another thing that I should mention, is that I only wash my hair about twice month; only when it begins to get oily at the scalp. I don't use styling products or heat on my hair. I air dry, and then only flat(straight) iron when needed, which is very infrequently now.
It sounds like what we Americans call a reverse perm. It straightens instead of curling. Hard to find someone to do it now because they can charge more for Keratin treatments that don't straighten nearly as well. I think his secret serum is just a perm without the activator for the curl. Not revolutionary. I had them done for years before embracing my natural curl. Usual cost was about $60 American. Not sure the Zultan has made a discovery. I think he found an old US hair straightening trick.
I've always had a wave in my hair. But since my hair came back in I have a chemo curl and I love having the choice off straight or curly. In this weather am just letting it do whatever it wants. Great video xx
OMGosh if we'd had the amazing hair products off today back in the 80s, I wouldn't have spent so many years hating my hair! I always say that my hair doesn't get longer it just gets fatter
I used to get mine straightened & it was amazing. I no longer can due to meds, last time I was tested the snip of hair went green & fizzed right up, gutting cos it really did change my life.
I would honestly advise against anyone getting this type of treatment. The chemicals involved may have improved from the older Formaldehyde ones but you're still drastically altering your the molecular makeup of your hair, which can only be achieved with serious chemicals. And the fact that Zoltan's ingredients are 'secret' is a bit worrying too. Personally, I've had many of these treatments and yes, my hair looks great at first but once it starts to grow out, oh boy, does it look bad. If you have naturally curly hair prepare for your natural curl pattern to be all but destroyed, and for the new hair growth to be extremely frizzy. It took me about a year to grow out my last treatment fully and a year after that to get my hair back to a healthy condition. Buyer beware.
My daughter in law uses a similar system and buys the product from abroad she has done it on a few people and it looks just like yours, she asked me to try it but I declined up to now but I think I will take the plunge. She charges a hundred pounds I think, but it is worth it.
I have very thick, frizzy and curly hair. I used a GHD straightener for the longest time because I hated my hair. But big, voluminous curly or wavy hair looks sexy, when it’s NOT frizzy 🤬. I have been using Redken No Blow Dry and it’s my holy grail now. It is supposed to shorten the drying time when you don’t blow dry it, but I just put it in and use the diffuser on my blow dryer. It gives me fluffy curly hair, doesn’t feel dry or tacky, reduces my frizz by 90%. It comes in 3 different strengths and I use the normal/medium one and it works great. I would imagine that it might also help with a regular blow dry to straighten frizzy hair, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Hi well I want your hair dresser& his treatment, but I live in Florida the heat, humidity capitol of the world, we’ll one anyway. I’ve had the other treatments & they use to work better & now I know why, your hair is beautiful, have a wonderful Holiday 🏝😘💗
I have coarse thick, unruly, curly/wavy hair and was recommended TIGI straighten out by my hair dresser. Put it on damp hair and I let it dry NATURALLY and although not poker straight it leaves me a very subtle beachy wave and absolutely NO frizz. It's lasted a couple of days now and I'm loving it! Also use Lush's R&B on the ends to make them look healthy and voila! My hair is tamed and has stood up to the heat and humidity of the last few days. ❤️
I have other hair issues that are different from yours except for humidity...I use Sebastian anti weather hair spray after blow drying and then either sleep or brush it out. This product keeps hair from absorbing humidity and in Florida it’s made a huge difference.
Thank you so much!! Already ordered those products, can’t wait to get them in the mail. Unfortunately I’m not in England, so no appointment for me. But I’ll def try the hair products! 😘 😘
4 words: Thank you so much!! ❤️I followed your recommendation, ordered the kerastase ciment thermique and the colorwow dream coat, used them today, and all day, NO FRIZZY HAIR!! 😮 I’m over the moon, no more 🐩 hair! You’re my hair-hero!! 😘
The smell of perm, boy that takes me back! Btw noticed QVC are doing the Dyson hairdryer for £299.96 but have it on easy pay with 4 x £74.99 if that helps anyone (and no I don’t work for QVC)
It seems like a huge advert. And I've had a Brazilian blow dry and it was very useful! I'm half black so my hair is curly but after the blow dry i don't have to straighten my hair anymore to get it straight
I absolutely LOVE your videos and find the content so incredibly good! I wanted to order a YS Park Brush but wondered what size you were using. There are quite a few sizes on Amazon and I wanted to order the correct on. My hair is approximately the same length as yours.
sounds like Japanese straightening, also called Thermal or Ionic or Rebonding treatment. the degree of straightening can be adjusted from stick-straight to a more "natural" look. and they also recommend touching up the roots every six months. it also requires the use of a hot iron to keep the hair structure straight while the Cysteine bonds within the strands which have been broken by the chemicals re-form. hence the term "Rebonding". this gives a permanent result as the bonds in the original curly hair are broken and then rebonded into the new straight structure. It's been popular in Japan for about 20 years. I get it done once a year here in NYC. pro tip: insist on using the chemicals from Japan. the knockoffs from Korea are cheaper but don't give the same results so it's a waste of time and money. it's the only treatment where your hair actually feels healthier and stronger than before! i've been doing it for 8 years now. nothing else comes close.
I wonder if the damage done by that is more or less than the damage done by constant blow drying and straightening. Really a genuine question, I just read all the comments below wondering about the damage done by the procedure. If it works for you, that is what counts.
I have your natural hair - exactly. I call it the dreaded British Kink; mousey colour, humidity blotting paper, self willed, tyrannical kink at the roots & general all round ‘2 fingers up’ hair. There are many things I would forego to rid me of this demon. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
I think its a perm just combed thru for 20 and nutralized then a keratin treatment over it . i don`t love having my hair straightened much because i like to wear it both curly and blown out straight! Your hair looks nice tho.I do hair but i do believe in telling my clients what chemicals I am going to use on them ! Just a personal courtacy .Especialy if they ask! like your channel.
Great post. I bought the Keratase product on your recommendation and it’s great. Thank you! I already have the Dyson, Color Wow and my beloved YS Park Brush which I’ve had for years. Now I’m looking for a shampoo and conditioner. Any suggestions??
I have curly hair and I live by the sea, the way I keep my hair under control is with Lush R&B then I dry my hair and then some oil around my ears where my hair tends to frizz the most (currently using John Frieda Frizz Ease Oil Elixir). Is the best to prevent me from looking like a lioness haha
I have always battled with the frizz but the 'tropicals' (hot flushes) in menopause made my fringe go like candy floss this Summer! I am lucky enough to have my own personal 'Zoltan' who came to the rescue with KERASILK. I didn't get my hopes up but WOW...my hair is amazingly smooth and I am told it should last up to six months! I thought the KERASILK smelt like burnt pasta but only for a few days lol. Anyone who suffers with frizzy hair but doesn't want to weigh down their hair should use ALOE VERA GEL as a leave in conditioner. It is good for the scalp and hair, ideal on the beach. Aloe vera gel straight from the plant is super hydrating but a bottle from the chemist/drugstore is convenient and effective also. You can also mix it with John Frieda Frizz Ease for the ends too. oxox
So basically this is Japanese yuko system . Can be done by amazing Japanese hairdresser in UK. I have been doing it for over 10 years in Ealing Common West London !
I had 2 Yuko treatments, the first transformed my life. I have very frizzy, curly, dry hair, the second completely wrecked it. It started snapping off and has never grown long again. This was 14 years ago. Please be very careful. I would love to find that miracle that stops the frizz without damaging. 🙏
Nadine I'm Brazilian with thick frizze curly hair more to afro side. My sister is hairdresser in Brazil... The Brazilian blow-dry has change so much that the name has change as well. My sister uses something called botox. But I personally stop use all the chemicals... I bought myself a ghd hair dryer and straighter. I also use a professional brush and I use kerastase to finalise. However I do capilar calendar 🗓 (hidration, nutrition and restauration) this has helped me immensely. My hair is not straight but after I blow-dry it looks like of housewife of orange County 🤣.
@tracy, it not the botox we use on face.... I will ask her about the formulation.. I remember the first time I use formaldehyde in 2011 when my sister bring some for me from Brazil OMG 😱 it was perfect imagine just wash and air dry... And would looks like I spend hours in the hairdresser 💇.
Elizabeth Ferreira oh ok😂Hey you never know. sleekshop.com sells the straightening products. The Brazilian one is 32 ounces so it’s pricy but the Yuko one and others they sell for a smaller amounts. I love that shop. Every one has access to professional products.
Nadine what colour are your roots? My hair colour is similar to yours and I would like darker roots, would just like to know if it's a redken colour and if so which one, thanks ❤️x
Does he wear a surgical mask when applying it? 🤔 I had similar (probably Brazilian blow out or treatment called X-Tenso by L'Oréal) and horrid result - very flat and stuck to my head. No body at all and quite frankly my hair looked better with just a weekly salon blow dry. I'd even go as far to say that it damaged my hair.
Boy do I know the smell of perms! Had many myself, a gave hundreds in the 80s&90s😣 do you see how freaking awesome your hair looks parted to the side Nadine?!!! Yes!! I love it like that!😍 thanks for the great information...i have hair just like yours.
Hi Nadine. What is the name of this treatment? There are a number of hair straightening options on the website but not one called Straightment as far as I can see. Is it the Rapunzel demi per meant straightening treatment? Thanks.
Cathy Lea funny how we've all got different opinions on products. I first bought Living Proof from Sephora before it was even in the U.K. and hated it. Actually made my hair more frizzy just like all those expensive Moroccan oil products too 🤔🤔☹️☹️
Hi Nadine, the link for the brush is Coolblades and only supplies to trade, do you know of an alternative website please. Many thanks. 😊 ps. Loved the video. 💋
Dowa-international are the official importers of YS Park brushes, I got mine from them (they are based in Wembley if you live in london and are very helpful if you pop in to buy).
cocoandblackie thank you, unfortunately I don’t live in London I live in Leeds, have looked on google and they don’t appear to have a website unfortunately.
That's so strange that the website hasn't come up! If you google 'dowa international' in google it should be the first hit. I googled 'y s park brushes uk' and it was the 7th listing....
It's a very good brush! It gives you that kind of creamy smooth (Kate Middleton) blowdry versus the sleek (Kim Kardashian) blowdry you get with ceramic brushes. Be prepared to have an achy arm, its worth it though!
Hi Nadine, I've just rewatched this as I've just had a similar treatment, although with mine the secret formula was added, dryed into the hair, then straightened and then rinsed out. The results are amazing, from very curly hair to sleek, smooth and straight hair just after rough drying. I'm sure it's a very similar product. Not cheap but will save me so much money in blow-drys! I also love how I didn't have to leave the stuff in my hair, could wash it on the same day. Brilliant stuff. I understand you have to be careful with salt water and the pool, because sulphate can damage the treatment, any tips for this?
Your hair looks great but aren't you worried about all the damage? You're chemically straightening it and then bleaching it too. Even with Zoltan's "magic ingredients" it's still a lot to put your hair through. I would've imagined you'd be more cautious about putting your hair through so much when it can make it thin, especially as you age. I don't mean this in a nasty way, I'm about your age and my hair is thinner now than when I was in my 20s unfortunately x
How is this treatment different than the "Japanese straightening method" we have been using in Vancouver for the last twenty years? The timing and procedure seem to be identical.
Very interesting... but I do wonder that if it smells like perm lotion it is just that but a more modern version? I've always had frizzy hair and I grew up in the 70s/80s. When I was younger you could get your hair straightened with perming lotion, it wasn't that great though lol. I found dying and bleaching the hell out of my hair knocked the coarse frizz out. Then about 16 years ago I used to have a treatment called Xtenso by Loreal, it was brilliant, you didn't have to have to have your whole head done, just the very frizzy troublesome parts...its was fantastic as it retexturized the hair so you could just leave it to dry naturally and it would be smooth it was also around £40-£60 so a whole lot cheaper.....but I haven't been able to find a single salon that does this anymore. I've also had that Nano Keratin Treatment.....£130 for a crock of s**t basically...it lasted about a week!!!! Utter rubbish! My hair has gone back to being as it was in my teens....The look of a Brillo pad.... I do all I can to smooth it straight but when the weather is humid I just leave it curly and put a ton of serum in.... One day I hope to shift some weight so that I can get away with just shaving it all off!!!!! Thanks for the product tips.... I have the Colour Wow stuff but found it stopped working after a while, but will try the others...Thank you :-) xxx
Nadine, the Redken product is a protein treatment. Be careful not to overuse it as it ironically excess protein can cause your hair to become brittle and snap. Its the same with nails and nail treatments. Once a week is probably smart. XxX
Forgive me for being off topic but Nadine what do you enjoy for a face primer? My skin is typically dry, I am 54 but do you have large pores on my chin. Currently using it bye-bye pores and it’s all right but don’t really want to use it all over my face
Now this may sound totally weird. My hair in Indian coastal humidity gets bigger and bigger too. Something that works for me is putting warm Dabur Vatika Hair oil ( It has been used in India for ages) on my hair, avoiding roots, for 30 mins before washing my hair n then washing it . It really smoothens n calms things up with feeling of residue or hair weighing down.
