Growing trees from seeds can be a pain and a gamble. When they grow, they grow and sometimes nature intervenes.
A big thank you has to go out to Jamie over on ‪@KeepingItBonsai‬ and ‪@keepingitkoi‬
I am also a proud member of the TreeMasons Society.
The TreeMasons Bonsai society was established in 2023 and is currently a small group of RU-vid Bonsai content creators, who together share their knowledge, work on collaboration projects and just generally have a laugh and talk about bonsai .
We are a growing community and are always looking for new members. If you have a Bonsai RU-vid channel and are interested in joining, please do get in touch or feel free to contact any one of the following Treemason members...

Thanks Andy mate and yeah it was a bummer. But hey at least I have a few more seedlings that I'll protect and keep away from the pests

when the slugs come out in force they sure bring an appetite....i know about the slugs ( the small ones are the worst ! ) great seedlings from a friend 💚 there is always another year for seeds 💚

They sure do John and the rain that we've had has only made the problem a whole lot worse. That's a good way of looking at it. Seeds won't go away and there's always another year

Thanks Jamie and yeah they seem to have made the journey ok. Since filming, they have all put on a lot of growth, so they should make great trees. Cheers bud 👍

@@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel It would have also been helpful to share maybe what Jamie did differently to have more success. I'm horrible at germinating, and keeping seedlings and cuttings alive. Cheers!

@@t3dwards13 Thanks for commenting and yeah that wouldn't have been a bad idea. Thing is, I'm not sure what Jamie does differently. Maybe his garden is different to mine and doesn't attract so many pests or maybe his just a better Germinator of seeds. It's an odd one for sure, but with these seeds, he sure has had a lot more luck than me

@@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel I thought about that, but figured it couldn't hurt for me to make that suggestion. 🙈

The best natural protection is laying a barrier of salt around your pots - can be a wee bit expensive but works. Needless to say that despite my own advice I still suffered with pests ringbarking my baby sprouted seedlings. Just a couple made it out of the lot!

That's a good tip Xav, I'll have to give that a try in a small area and see if it helps.

Nice starter trees. The 3 trunks on the boxwood could be a good thing if they're low enough. I personally think boxwood look good as multi trunk bonsai.

I am liking the multi trunk on this little tree and will have to work out a design for it. I'm thinking the cloud tree idea will work, but it'll take many years before those pads could be established and grown in

It won't take as long as you think if you up pot it for a few years 😉

Do you have an area in the yard where you put your trees in ground to thicken? Or is that too convenient for those pests?
@NotAnotherBonsaiChannel

That wouldn't be a bad idea, but yeah pests could prove to be a problem and keeping them in pots means it's easier keeping an eye on them
