It’s spa time for our Butterfly Bush Blooms … this hot water bath trick works GREAT for flowers with woody stems like lilacs, hydrangeas and yes steamy water also works to help roses that have droopy necks!
I smash the stem and then set it in the hot steamy water while I work on other elements, then they’ll be fresh and sturdy for bouquets and arrangements.
My non ‘sciencey’ explanation of why it works : it helps keep their stems open so they can drink more water PLUS it they have already wilted it helps push the oxygen out of the stem so it fill back up with water. But goodness don’t quote me, this is just how it made sense in my mind. The good news is, it doesn’t matter if you understand the science, the trick works 🤩
