I keep seeing 2 CRT tube tester kits when my craigslist searches finish & I always was curious about them. Almost makes me want to check one of them out, but one is a B&K 465 so even a little older than this unit. Great video as always, super interesting.
Thanks, I think the oldest one to go for is the BK467, older than that and you can't get them attached to Trinitrons, at least that's what Savon Pat mentioned to me.
Oh man! This one needed help Steve. Something about old 1970's technology with brittle wires and tubes always gives me the willies and want to restore them after decades of uses and abuse bro. 8^) Anthony..
I worked in a TV repair shop back in the late 1980s and they also bought ex-rental TV's that were in average condition and 'boosted the tube' before putting them out on the shop floor with 3 months warranty.
@@RetroTechUSA Not cool for the customers in the long run as it shortens the life of the tube to about 6 months I think they used to say. It was like clocking back the mileage on a used car by half.
Thanks for the video, I just won an auction for the same device on eBay for 26€ + 7€ shipping. I was looking for an crt tester for month and now I got one...fingers crossed that it arrives in one piece.
That one is much nicer, if I find one for a reasonable price I'll grab it. This one is an example of probably the cheapest tester that is actually still usable.
Oh, cool. That one's actually got a printed circuit board in it. The early ones were all point-to-point connections. Typically with these kinds of things, I'd expect the capacitors to need replacement unless they've been serviced within the past 10-15 years.
This is super cool, thanks Steve. Do you happen to know how the rejuvenation function works? I can understand the idea of reading off levels from the cathode in diagnostics mode, that seems pretty straightforward. All I can find on 'rejuvenation' though is that it might be running the gun at a higher voltage than normal and maybe neutralizing any abnormal resident charge or something like that?
Hello, I would like to do a rejuv on a Sony PVM 2950, is it good with this B&K and without risk ? I heard Müter BMR 95 was good for Trinitron, thank you.
Wouldn't electric leakage from those electrolytic caps affect the calibration and further measures? It's something Mr. Carlson talks about a lot on his channel.
I have a Heathkit and I would assume it would work with a Trinitron with the proper adapter. What is different about a trinitron other than it's gun geometry?
I just got one the other day off eBay but unfortunately the heater voltage knob doesn't move that gauge at all. I'm not sure if the gauge is not working at all or if the heater voltage isn't working. That gauge on the far left sits below zero but the other two gauges sit right at zero. I refilled the entire board and I also use my ESR meter to check all the capacitors and all the capacitors check good. Do you have any suggestions on what I can try? Thanks
Are the trinitron tubes the same pinout as a regular cr23 tube, what diagram did you use to make your adaptors i need to make an adaptor for my BK but Sony use use dual focus tubes with double focus pins, ive made adaptors for CR31 and CR23 which work just fine but really need help making one for the sony tubes.
You don't need the focus pins if focus is g3 and g4 voltage. On my Diamondtron Neck there is just KR,KG,KB,G1,G2 and Heater 1 and Heater 2 so since diamondtron is aperture grille should sony not be the same
@@ManOfAttitudeLP1998 cheers, i managed to make a universal adapter so i can clip directly to the pins, the Sony tubes i have all have different sockets and so finding sockets on thier own is virtually impossible, but the pin outs are always labled on the neck board on sonys so its a big help, works just fine.
@@Megalocade Yes that is also the way I do it but one question. Neck only had one g1 and g2 do I solder all the different g2 and g1 colors to the single one on the neck or can one lead carry all the voltage.
Can you say how to build adapters for these? How do you know which neck socket you need, what are the pins on the plug side, how do you know the pins on the tube, where do you get the information from about the different voltages for the tube?
RCA BKR689PR console TV,I have this model TV Picture tube number is 25VGDP22. It worked fine mabe needed an adjustment. We called an old repairman who came and was going to try and rejuvenate the picture tube, but did not have the right adapter.he messed up the picture of the TV . We keep calling him to put it back the way he found it! My question what model Rejuvenator would work on this TV with the proper adapter!?
According to the service manual for the B&K 467 there are 3 output pins for the G2, oneach for red, green and blue. According to the service manual for the PVM2530 you have there there is only one pin for the G2 on the Trinitron tube. Which of the 3 output G2 pins did you use for the single G2 pin on the Trinitron? Would be interested to know. Also where did you get your heater voltage from? Cheers
The three G2 wires on the tester are connected together, so you can use any one of them you want. The three G1 wires are also connected together. There is also a big list of CRT model numbers and what settings they need, but if your tube is not on that list, you can find the heater voltage in the service manual of the TV/monitor. Or just measure it I guess. G1 voltage can also be found in the service manual. I made a universal adapter for my tester - instead of a socket it has mini-grabbers, so I can connect it to any tube I want, as long as I know its pinout.
@@Stout936 I just purchased a Vision Master Pro 514 for 180 Euro + like 94 Euros fuel cost and then sadly realized it has a bad blue gun. I could get my hands on this device but how do I get the right adapter then
@@RetroTechUSA makes sense. I assume it can help gun/electrical issues, but anything to do with glass/phosphors is a lost cause. Would love to be wrong though.
