This was a remarkable performance by Black Dyke. I am so pleased that besides the brilliance of the various soloists, prominence was given to the percussion section of this marvellous band!
Was in the hall that day and so lucky to say I heard this live, the most amazing live performance ever, me and the rest of the hall stopped breathing during the flugel Solo the ppp was just awesome.
Same at 3:17. Something I've seen them do live which I found really fascinating is they will put memory foam in their cup mutes when they have to play really soft dynamics.
I am a newbie to this type of band. Played professional trumpet my whole life. Big band, wind Symphony , Jazz , Latin , club dates, church , Calypso. These guys are spectacular ! The young woman who played the Fluegel Solo at 1130 was beyond comparison. Miss, no one could have played it better and I know believe me !
Breathtaking piece of music. Downloaded the full score and was total blown away by the technique involved. Not only irregular measures, but 32th notes and 64th notes? In less than seconds jump 2 octaves? And that pianissimo. I can only bow down to the performers, soloists and of course the director keeping it all together.
Liefs Vanessa xoxoxo♪
Supreme! Formidable band sounds, of course, but it is the solo contributions that elevate this performance - beyond Cory's at the British Open for me. Zoe Hancock makes the flugel look effortless. Bravo!
Ikr! And then straight into the flugelhorn solo again. So elegant, yet I’ve tried doing this before and it’s insanely difficult to accomplish so smoothly 😭
Yeah, his expressions are fantastic. He's already smiling a few bars before the end, and his celebration on the last chord is fantastic. I played for many years on the soprano seat, played this piece as well, and trust me, when it comes to the end of the piece, when you're quite exhausted, those expressions from the conductor transmit you some real power to ring these few last notes and truly milk the last chord.
Well, not necessarily my friend, I thought the Basses did well, and also the solo cornet, it's a team effort, so not just about stealing shows, but stealing anawsone ensemble, cwith great trombone solos, etc
@@acebrown7619 True. Without a doubt the entire group is amazing. It’s just that for me, the frugal and baritone soloists were the icing on the cake. For other listeners, not so much.
Peter you have never heard you opus so incredible incredible. Every mucikant gave deep est100,% of them selv på silverbricka all tone. In all my life never never heard so underfundiga new things to in a higher st brass band in my life. We're really hoping to see you guys organizing another brass band competition in Sierra Leone Check the performance of Black night played by St Edward's brass band
@franklane7424 too bad a saw this comment three years too late to tell you that either you're going deaf or are an idiot. I hope you've figured out which by now.
Compared to Cory at the Open, this is a much more measured performance, credit to Prof. Childs, a chance to hear all the notes and realise the superb music.
one of the best performances ever with interaction on stage ! ♪♫ very good percussion too............... ♫♪ better then CORY at that time....... ☺ ♥ ☺ ♫♪ 98 points 2014 own choice best perf. adj. Preben Nørgaard Christensen, Stephen Roberts, Hannes Buchegger, Guido Segers, Martin Winter, Jean-Claude Kolly test piece : Muckle Flugga Rory Boyle - 93 pts. total 191 3rd place set
A little bit too much of Berstein's West Side Story in this music. And yet a splendid composition! Amazing soloists. They don't fear anything, do they?
I was there 🎺🎺🎶🎶watching live!. Just a glorious moment in time I'll never forget👏👏🎶🎺🎺 I wish I knew how to do those lip trills, years and years of very hard practice and dedication with a shed load of talent 🎺🎺🎶🇬🇧
Monumentally good playing and direction. Peter Graham has lost it though. This is just generic effects band music. Where has the wit of Montage gone? Appealing to the HBO epic viewer I suppose. Listening to this makes me appreciate two things - the playing, and the craft of Philip Wilby, or Gregson, or Heaton, or Bourgeois. Fewer pieces, but better ones. And finally. Goddamned adverts.
