I've put around 55,000 miles on my 2022 Rocket 3 R, including a three-week-long trip covering 7000 miles. I've had zero problems with the bike and it continues to make me smile every time I ride it.
Had mine for over two years. Professionally remapped now with 198hp at the crank 256NM. It’s mental, the best feeling bike I’ve ever owned. Granted it love petrol stations and there’s far better bikes for touring on. But as a bike to clear your head, forget work and the day to day problems of life, nothing comes close to it. A very special machine in todays market 👍
You summed it up perfectly. It's not a perfect bike, but it's just special to ride. I take mine out for short trips a couple of times a week and that's enough for me. I haven't come even close to opening her up and I don't need to. I love it's craftsmanship, it's like a work of art.
$old my 2021 R1 for the money and room for the Rocket 3 R. Nothing comes close to feeling as cool as you do on this bike. Still cant believe it's mine!
i heard a report from someone i know whos ridden this, they said that despite the weight and cumbersome feel to the bike, the appeal of the engine capacity does really push through. often people question the need for such power, but as you pointed out, the advantage of the low vibrations at higher gearing is just exceptional.
The rocket 3 riding position was the perfect fit for me at 6 feet - 250 lbs. I bought a 2022 rocket R and I pretty much do everything on that bike. Around town, long distances, short distances, day rides, overnight rides, I do it all. And the bike does everything And more on those rides. It may not corner like a speed triple because of its overall length, but I have no problems on the curves because the weight is so low on the bike, but it’s just a lot of fun. I look forward to many years and many miles.
In other words it will do everything you want it to do. With the added benefit of when you twist the throttle , to evoke giddy giggles, howls of laughter from the rider.
i have a 2020 GT version and man what a bike put a smile on my face everytime i ride it and people keep on asking question about my Rocket its so rare to see on the road here in Montreal Quebec its winter time for us here in Canada i cant wait for next spring to ride it again.
Your acceleration early in the video up to 60 when you hit the National sign was very reserved. I sat on one at the dealership and could surprisingly flat foot it at 5’6 - that being said, I’ll stick with my street cripple 😅 LRH! Great review - thank you!
My only regret is not getting the black one, instead I settled for the 22 gt with grey/silver and pin stripping on the tank. If I get enough spare cash, I may actually fork out a couple of grand and get it painted.
@@russmode I like the Bobbers too. Pal just bought a new Speedster though. Similar to the Bobber, but seats two. Also quite nice. But another pal was just killed on his Harley couple of days ago. Reminds me why I no longer ride murderpsychos.
Hehe.... Yup, they're beautiful. I have a 2021 Triumph Rocket GT. I changed from a 2010 Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja, (ZZR 14 in Britain I believe), because at 50 I was finding the riding position challenging. The Rocket is a sensational side step up. Does everything well and is really rather comfy. Commuting or cruising, I absolutely love it!! A🌈🐻👍🏾
I am 59 and not all interested in those racers that make you contort and scrunch up on, forcing me to get off every 30 minutes. Funny enough I did look at the ZX14 because I love the design and specs and I think it may actually be cheaper, but if it's not comfortable to ride, then it's useless to me.
@@dimitrimatsacos7859 The ZX14 is actually quite comfortable. For me it was a problem because of nerve damage in my neck and lower back issues. If you're a fit fella it would be fine. The riding position is fairly upright, pending the length of your arms! Well worth looking at. They perform beautifully. A🌈🐻👍🏾
I have ridden my 2020 GT for over 71,000 miles (115,000,km) and in my opinion the Rocket is the best all around street bike made. I can play with the sports bikes (I have passed more of them than have passed me, by far), I can cruise with the cruisers (plenty of storage with panniers and a top box) having done over 1000 miles in one day and been on 10 day trips. Picking up groceries is even fun. And after all those miles the grunt is still intoxicating, lol. I still get excited each and every time I get in the saddle. When this one wears out I will be getting another Rocket unless I see something that might be better. Nothing like that exists right now imho.
Blimey, i had no idea the rocket 3 does such high mileages and the gearbox and electrics seem very reliable and tough. What a great machine, its torque makes it the king of fast cruisers and even the mpg is good. Fabulous and far better value than any BMW, Indian, Harley or Ducati. 40mpg is better than a honda vfr800 or yamaha 600 fazer.
What a cracking video Dan. Slomo shots at the beginning and end really showed the bike off! “Street cripple” and “I go to the gym a lot” were some other highlights 🤣 would you do an edit of the ride down to the coast you did on the Rocket? Think that would be quality!
I need it. Ugh, this is one of my dream bikes, along with the SuperDuke 1290R, H2 (for obvious reasons), MT07, MT09, and and oldschool Bandit 1200. I'd daily the shit out of the Rocket 3
@@wwfww sorry bro, I think we all live in the same world. Although I appreciate the sentiment, EV bikes (at least for now) just aren't the same as ICE bikes.
@@-Eternal-Damnation- One, we don't have the electrical grid infrastructure to support the demand for EV cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. We can barely handle the demand we have now. Two, we don't have generation capacity for the added demand, solar and wind don't cut it either. Germany tried just renewable and couldn't do it, went back to coal. Three, we need a quantum leap in battery technology that doesn't rely on rare metals. Sure, batteries are better than they used to be, but currently they rely on rare metals like Lithium which are in finite supply and cannot be completely recycled in new batteries. Additionally, rural areas will always be a problem for people and heavy equipment Can't charge in the middle of nowhere. I think we'll settle somewhere in the middle where major cities will require EVs to reduce pollution, but suburbs and rural areas will still using some form of petrol. Many companies out there are working on synthetic petrol which as zero or near zero carbon emissions.
My only complaint with my Rocket GT3 is the handle bars are so wide that I cannot always lane filter, which is annoying as I live on the Gold Coast and the weather is often quite hot, and the bike throws off a lot of heat. I would like to know if it's worth switching off if the traffic lights are particularly slow (as is often the case here). It drinks like a fish too and the 18lt tank empties quite quickly. I don't understand his comments about weight and it being difficult to move in the driveway. The weight is really low down, so it may be a problem if you let it tip beneath a certain degree otherwise I'm 59 and haven't been to a gym in years and it's no problem at all. I recommend getting one of those hyper sensitive portable alarms that you can buy online for around $100 because idiots are going to try and sit on it and have their pics taken while they scratch the tank with their belt buckles. I have made 2 minor modifications to mine. That is a Denali sound bomb mini horn (puts out 113db) because I felt the original horn was quite weak, and an Innox k3 front and rear mounted camera with gps and microphone. I had to get an auto electrician to install mine because it turns out all the standard accessory ports will draw power even when the ignition is off. They installed a post? and wired the camera system to it, and now I don't drain the main battery overnight.
I saw one of these rocket threes in the chrome edition a little while ago, and I have not had such a desired on a bike since I stood in front of a Vincent Black shadow. That is an absolutely beautiful machine. Unfortunately, it’s about as affordable for me, as a Vincent BLACK shot it was, a lonely be able to go in one second hand or if I win the lottery which probably is not gonna happen. Sad because I would absolutely worship a bike like that.
The fuel cap is not a problem, but the dashboard could be as you said. If it were possible, I would immediately replace it with two analogue ones. But still better than ugly tablets. As for power and others, maybe there is someone whose dream is Opel or Dacia, but I don't know anyone like that. Everyone would like a Ferrari or a Lambo. Even if they end up buying the Opel, but not because they really want it.
Great review as always! However I think it’s like having a go on a fast ride at the fair, once you’ve experienced it’s party trick ,.. time for a proper motorcycle 😮
@davidtait7407 I don't think I've ever had a go on a fast ride at the fair and come off it thinking OK I've been there and done that, now let me stick to ones less thrilling. I'd more likely want to have another go and another one. I own a Rocket 3 GT and can honestly tell you I've never got off it and thought...OK now " time for a proper bike". In case you feel I'm not making a fair comparison I also own a Kawasaki ZZR 1400 Performance Sport, a KTM 890 Adventure R and a Triumph 900 Thunderbird Sport. All of which are " proper bikes" each with their own unique attributes but I wouldn't consider any of them more " proper" than the Rocket. If you want to have " proper" fun I'd say the Rocket's the one, although they are in many ways somewhat equal.
A friend had the earlier 2.3L one and he said the biggest issue was the weight and having the embarrassment of having the wife push him and the bike backwards out of a carpark, no reverse gear!
Why doesn't Triumph fit the Rocket with a reverse gear, like the Gold Wing? The bike has a kerb weight of about 320kg (705lbs), so it would come in handy on an incline, on bad/slippy surfaces, or when you're in a tight space.
It’s a hell of a thing but, honestly, having ridden one I just couldn’t get fired up by it. If I had to have one bike this isn’t it. If I could have a stable of bikes, that’s another thing.
I would like to get a second bike and I really like this bike but licence and insurance in my country will probably cost more than an arm and a leg. Better if I get something more affordable. Thanks for the review Dan 😘
Looks phenomenal, has power in abundance, but sounds like a vacuum cleaner. And the really sad thing is that not a single flap exhaust manufacturer offers an exhaust with EU homologation for this.
Its beautiful, high quality, amazingly powerful, but the shear size and weight! The bike is “all about” cruising on the highway, not in town operation, negotiating parking lots, U turns, slow turns, etc. Diavel, or Speed Triple if buying British is the thing, has better performance in a much lighter package. But for those who want the biggest,…
Back in 99, I bought a new fatboy and spent another 20k to double the hp. Had no windscreen, luggage or storage of any kind and put 50k km on the thing. Reminds me of those times. 😂
You want to watch those English country lanes. Might collect a tractor on your front mudguard and have to clean it off when you get to your destination.
ive ridden my R3 GT every day all weather all year for over 2 years. excellent bike and filtering is super easy when youre used to the size and agility of this lump of a machine
I turn the mirrors 90 degrees up sometimes and I think this gives me about another 3 inches less width to play with (I hate bumping someone's mirrors with mine). Drivers here in OZ are quite often already angry that I'm getting to the front of the red lights without aggravating them further.
Something I'm not quite understanding. I know he is making the point how heavy the Rocket 3 is, but its lighter than both the Harley and the BMW R18. Those bikes should be even harder to push around.
As a Triumph rider I must say Yes the Rocket3 is awesome. But being an owner of a new Speed Twin 1200 I am more about the sound and being able to ride it comfortably around town. The Rocket sound is an acquired taste. It isn’t sporty, it isn’t typically English other than maybe a Triumph car. And it isn’t a V engine. Sum=I LOVE it but not for me.
I would love to give one of these animals a time under me ass. I think I love looking at it and I expect I would love too riding it. The grin over the chin can happen underway on almost any motorcycle but, when that grin goes away looking at it can be a very real bummer. This Triumph and my Harleys do accomplish that stopped and go grin. I will one day go look at one of these. Beautiful bike indeed.
I love this bike except for the headlights. No no & NO. That rear license plate fender thingy must go also. All together wrong on that part/looks like hell.
Those darn street Cripples! Always inviting me down to the basement for some candy. I went to a Trumpy dealer today here in Sydney Australia. They got none left. LOL. Rockets I mean, not candy.
