This is also played quite well on the tuba by Chuck Daellenbach of the Canadian Brass. I talked to him one evening after a performance and asked how he could defy physics so easily. He said, "it's a trick".

Just to explain to people who don't play the trombone why this is really incredible: on the piano you have keys you press, on string instruments you press your fingers on the fingerboard. But a trombone slide is gliding almost as easily as moving your hand through the air, nothing to do hold on to or press on (if everything's alright with the instrument and you've put sliding oil on it properly). Generally it's the faster you play, the less notes you get right (or simply the worse your intonation) because you simply cannot stop atthe correct position. What this guy does needs an insane amount of practice to be able to stop at the right point and not slide over them. Plus you normally "beat" (don't know the correct English term) every note with your tongue, so try beating your tongue against your teeth in the that tempo. I would actually say that the trombone is the least suited instrument to play this piece, so props to this guy.

Russo's slide technique is very accurate. It is easy for trombonists to make songs like this sound sloppy, but Russo is just very good at making each note crystal clear. Great performance!

I can honestly say that i did not search for this. this gem was served up to me by the algorithms...

I studied music for thirty years (it was my college major) before putting everything on hold to become a writer a few years ago. Started my musical travels at age ten on slide trombone, and over the years, gained basic competence on low and high brass and the saxophone family...too much of a drifter to ever become a virtuoso like Staff Sergeant Carmen Russo, my new musical hero. Bravo, sir...BRAVO!!! To attain this level of mastery over various sized brass instruments is a major achievement that requires discipline, hard work, intense focus, and LOTS of practice. I humbly tip my hat to your excellence. Thank you for this masterful...and quite humorous...performance! :-)
