Did I misunderstand who the father of Savine's baby is? I was sure it was Orso but I seem to have confused a few people in the comments so maybe I just made a leap and was totally wrong. Sorry if I've confused you all, this might be a me problem 🤦♀
I'm pretty sure Savine tells Zuri that she had her monthly visit right after they returned from Valneck so before she hooked up with Leo, making Leo the father and not Orso.
Shivers is a probably the biggest through-line character of the entire series. If you want to see how he got to be who he is in the Age of Madness, you should read the stand-alone novels. They fill in the gap between the two main series and are pretty great in their own right.
I’m sure you mixed Cosca and Clover lol Cosca is no longer in the story sadly but Clover is our new sneaky bastard.. I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, Orso and Savine are my fav too! This was def Orso’s book
The Trouble W/Peace was the best book I've read since A Storm Of Swords. I'm not even into the industrial Revolution. For me, this book cemented Abercrombie as one of the greatest writers in modern history. A Masterpiece.
Hm maybe it's my fault. I definitely thought it was Orso's but I'm not the best at keeping timelines perfectly straight and I could have just misunderstood the situation
I'm pretty sure the child actually was Leo's. I can't remember the exact details but I think Savine commented about her cycle in-between the last time she slept with Orso and then Leo
I love this trilogy! I feel like every chapter is just so much fun to read by itself, whereas in the original trilogy there were occasionally some chapters that fell a bit flat for me. My favorite character is Leo, who I feel terrible for, even though he makes some terrible terrible decisions 😬I can't help myself! Actually I feel like I always empathise with every character in Joe's books. He's so good at making everyone feel really human (and then making us all collectively suffer).
I'm so excited to see you finish the trilogy and your overall feelings. It's my all time favorite series. Don't forget Sharp Ends, the short stories as well. I'd recommend the audiobook for Sharp Ends, you get to experience Steven Pacey for most of the stories, but Joe narrates a Cosca centric story. Plus there's an interview with both of them at the end.
20:37 Shivers has appeared in more books than any other character in the series. The only book he wasn't a part of being the very first one: The Blade Itself. IMO he's the closest thing to a main character in the series overall and hopefully he keeps appearing till the the very last book.
With Savine, they didn’t want to tell anyone that she was adopted because it would put her at risk. It’s not a good thing to be the illegitimate oldest offspring of the king.
Had I not accidentally found out I was adopted in 4th grade, I probably wouldn't have known until adulthood either. When my teacher asked the class if anyone was adopted, for some reason, I mistook it for being baptized and raised my hand. Don't ask me why, but I turned out to be right anyway. It was more of a shock to me in that moment during class when I looked around the room full of southern Baptist and Presbyterian children with their hands down.
I just finished this book this morning at like 3 am. The single shared brain cell works wonders. I loved this book. Orso is just my favorite character. He has such great character hidden beneath everything else. He's an amazing contrast to Leo. And Savine is great. Also rikka is just amazing. Mostly because I love the humor from all the Northmen. Basically I love everyone except Leo. He's a dumb dumb
