poor, desperate guy. He had it all - talent, looks, intelligence, the right friends. Marilyn Monroe said that, while filming The Mistfits, he was the only person she knew who was in worse shape then she was. When you look at them together they were like 2 desperate children clinging onto each other.
dru boy : I feel the same way, he was simply perfect. I feel so sorry about his untimely ending and the sadness or lonelyness, he musta felt inside....
It’s so so sad how his sexuality wasn’t accepted and haunted and evidently it was that pain that killed him. I had a friend who’s life was ended short bc he could never come to terms with it and the pain and guilt that he felt. Love ur kime
it's impossible to dismiss how unbelievably , physically beautiful he was ! - he's buried in Prospect Park , in Brooklyn , in a lovely secluded place , the old Quaker Cemetery ! toward the center of the park .
I just watched some of Red River here on youtube last night. I have seen in the past, but this time I noticed something Monty did that hadn't caught my eye before. The way he mounts a horse from the ground. He is not a tall guy, but in one motion he leaps up putting his left foot into the stirrup and swings his right leg over the saddle - and boom, he is mounted! It is like he does it all in mid air. I guarantee ye, John Wayne couldn't do that! He does it twice early in the movie, before they move out for Missouri.
A very sad man. It's heartbreaking to read or hear interviews that show how unbelievably shy he really was and how he cared so much of the judgement of others. He really shouldn't have.
I just finished reading 'Montgomery Clift: A Biograph' by Patricia Bosworth. A very well written and inciteful telling of his tragic life filled so many stories from those who knew him best.
No one could get into a part like Montgomery Clift! A place in the Sun, From Here to Eternity, and I confess. Like Tab Hunter, his sexual preference in no way took away from his popularity as one of Hollywood's most handsome leading actors.
the tortured soul who committed the slowest suicide in Hollywood. I wish there was more on here about this beautiful man!!! what a tragic tragic life. Thank you for sharing.
tonya, I think you are on top of this situation. I think you are on the money. I'm with you all the way. It does look like a slow suicide. Whatever his private life he had the decency to keep it to himself as far as I can see. I respect that.
There were a lot of handsome actors in that era but MC stood out because he could actually act. His delivery wasn't wooden unlike other actors of that time. The critics were particularly cruel and unfair towards him whilst giving praise to less talented actors.
The older I get, the less I pay attention to critics. They're generally misinformed and/or off the mark. Proclaiming that Cliffs acting had diminished in later years, is a prime example of how idiotic critics can be. The Misfits, The Young Lions, Freud, The Defector, Judgement at Nuremburg. 'Diminished', my arse! His face may have been altered, but his talent hadn't diminished, one iota. If anything, he even got better. Critics. Good Christ.
@@XxchampaignxX Marlon Brando was the greatest actor of all time ff by Robert de Niro,Al Pacino, acc to survey, critics, actors. He lived 80, star of 3 decades. Monti Clift started young as stage actor in 1940s .🤴
Just remember that Liz Taylor lost another friend to a car accident on September 30th 1955 ( James Dean ). Another great talent dealing with his sexuality also. 🏳️🌈
disappointing that they left out the most horrifying and heroic detail on liz's part of the crash-she yanked his jaw out from blocking his respiration, hands on. incredible woman, and they shared an incredible friendship.
Every person you come across is fighting an internal battle of which we know no. - - - Montgomery was a very expressive, intensive actor in his films he portray the human struggles very convincingly, it all came so natural to him I guess
What he didn't realise was that scars often add character and immense sexiness. While I definitely can't compare with such a handsome man, I have scarring on my forehead and nose due to a car accident, and, at 54, some people still find me relatively attractive. To me, he was more manly, more rugged after the crash.
Of course she didn't need to be present that would be ridiculous lol. Monty must've told her that he was gay. I personally think it does matter in a way, so many people try to down play his homosexuality or erase it all together and I don't think that's right at all. He was so terribly conflicted over being gay why try to rob him of his pain now that he's gone?
@@clorisleechman1633 of course ET Knew he was her BF for twenty some yrs. He was so torment in his trouble life at the time Gay was considering taboos so the guilt and shameful consumed all the unhappiness he felt at the time . If he was born at the present time things will be much better for him ! May he RIP! He's always loved
He was a beautiful looking man and a great actor etc But if he were ugly most most people now wouldn't of given him a second thought.... it's sad that we have to have good looks or a beautiful face to get validation.
Before Montgomery Clift there were Spencer Tracy and Humphrey Bogart. Different generation, different pathways into the profession, but the same natural style on screen. Spencer Tracy's philosophy, look the other actor in the eye and tell the truth, was what Clift also did.
Monty reminds me of Marilyn Monroe, both beautiful souls, but such sad spirits ! People forget Monty and MM did make one movie together --- The Misfits (such an apt title) in 1960, also starring Clark Gable, who died of a heart attack shortly after filming finished.
It was said that marlyin monroe said hes the only one worse than me. She said of Monty clift. Well said though beautiful souls but sad spirits. Tortured but beautiful people
I only remember some of the last few films where he accurately portrayed a broken soul completely. But that has limited appeal however genuine in might have been.
Totally agreed! Also consider that fact that he was unemployed during the entire last 4 years of his life because Hollywood didn’t give him even a little chance.
@@jeffliu2448 But, at least he got to do, The Defector in Europe, his last film. It's very good, too and Clift, as usual, nails it. I agree, he should've done more films. But, I guess too, he wasn't in too good of shape in those last years. It makes his work in The Defector that much more impressive. He had the chops, right up to the very end.
@@waynej2608 Do you believe in a higher power and a after life ? I believe Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Rock Hudson, Cary Grant, Anthony Perkins, Doris Day and Audrey Hepburn are making movies again on the other side. ❤ 😎 🎥
Wanna see a beautiful woman? No problem. Take a look at Elizabeth Taylor when she played in a movie with Montgomery Clift. God, what a lovely looking woman. Ever since I was a kid (many years ago) I saw Elizabeth Taylor as a lovely looking woman. Can you believe Montgomery Clift got to be a star alongside this lovely woman? What a lucky guy.
truth seeker - I agree. More fuss was made about audrey hepburn, grace kelly, viivienne leigh etc but looks and acting wise elizabeth was far more superior in my opinion. She stole every scene she was in.
Montgomery Clift was not only a good actor but he was so handsome. Sad he did not come out about being gay. Entertainment Tonight got it wrong he was NOT BISEXUAL.
In those days people cared about what other people thought. It was a better world in so many ways. I respect Montgomery Clift's desire to not hurt other people by blaring out to the world what his sexual orientation happened to be. That's an act of consideration. It was a better world. I'm sure he suffered.
c3-8ate, I don't get the point. Whose business is it what Montgomery Clift's private life was all about. If he didn't or doesn't want to tell anyone is personal business what right does anyone have to take a club to him and demand answers? In my opinion, none. No right at all.
Andrew Simpson 9 months ago "Montgomery Clift was not only a good actor but he was so handsome. Sad he did not come out about being gay. Entertainment Tonight got it wrong he was NOT BISEXUAL." 3 Garbage. Why lie? For the gay agenda?
A Boston It’s because back then his coming out would have destroyed his career. Plus it would have led to a massive witch hunt and even more repression of gay Hollywood. I’ve read his biography as well as many other Hollywood historical books. He actually didn’t care if people knew but he didn’t want to hurt others. It was nobody’s business anyway.
I see so many comments about he tragic he was! Were any of you aware that he was born into one of the most Aristocratic families in Omaha, NE? Obviously, money and status don't bring happiness!
WS mccarthy bi? He can be seen nearly kissing Clift on a no of occasions. Lizzie seem t hav a lot of time f SEXUALLY CONFUSED CELEB MALES (Rock, BRANDO, Dean, Monty), even MJ.
Great actor who unfortunately loved the booze and the drugs .I've read that he snorted an 8 ball a day of coke and drank a fifth of scotch . Pills too and cigarettes. Monty was a ticking time bomb
MR CLIFT. MY BUM NEEDS YOUR CRITIQUE. I LOVE YOU ALWAYS. GOD I WISH I COULD KISS YOU. YOU ARE A METHODICAL SO SAID CHARLTON. MY RIGHT LEFT ARM. ALWAYS LOVE YOU. FROM CENIA AND STEPHANIE. LE SEINE. DIDN'T TELL TEEN IDOL JAMES WHAT RESULT OF SOMETHING WILL BE. HE DOESN'T KNOW. FAST DRIVING AND PORSCHE 911. 3&1 LOVE YOU ALL. THANKS..SO SO...
What a lousy bio. It got the chronology backwards, and just about everything else wrong. He didn’t drink because of the accident, he had the accident because he was dead drunk. He didn’t live alone towards the end of his life, he had a live-in boyfriend. He wasn’t “sensitive,” he was a complete jerk.
