@@BaneTrogdor Not defending AG1. Its a waaaaay overpriced vitamin mix. But the lead claim is almost certainly the result of California's notorious prop 65. I've seen the warning on anything from power strips to "natural" toothpaste to chocolate. Although any lead exposure is unsafe, most Californians know to basically ignore the govt warning. All major brands try to ship packages with the warning only to Cali.
It's very hard to do quality control on even 1 single ingredient. They are getting the cheapest/most available ingredients wherever they can get them. They do not have personal relationships any of the farmers and likely know very little about the origin of any single ingredient. I'd bet they just accept any ingredient that is low enough cost and passes heavy metal/bacteria tests.

Carrots, onions, eggplant ,garlic, potatoes, beets, lentils, garlic, apples, ginger, avocados, oranges, bananas - can keep for weeks. Tomatoes,broccoli,asparagus, packaged mushrooms, mangoes easily hold AT LEAST few days and you can meal plan around that. You can plant your own basil and the likes - even from the ones in store.

Tim Ferriss has been studying supplements and their effects on his bloodwork for 20 years. He wrote a massive book on bloodwork, supplements, and how to improve your body. He will not talk about something unless he has tried it, and has taken blood samples, and verified that it works. I have followed Tim Ferriss for 20 years. I have read all of his books, watched all his podcasts, I even have a signed book when he first moved to Austin. Tim Ferriss doesn't do hot trending supplements and recommend them unless he tried it himself for a couple months, checked his bloodwork to make sure everything is fine, and can complete a journal on the effects every day he takes a supplement. The person putting the supplement together may screw up, they may make a bad batch, but if Tim Ferriss says its good, you can guarantee he used it and verified in his bloodwork that it is helping him. You got scammed when you watched this video and believed the implication that AG1 is bad for you

Fraud has a specific legal definition and that’s what lawyers do. He was found liable but the court didn’t make a finding of fraud or its equivalent in his home country. If they had, I don’t think he would’ve been able to file for bankruptcy at least that’s the rule in the US.
My friend started drinking this and swearing by it. It was expensive and the whole marketing pitch had a cult like feel to me. This prompted me to do my own research on AG1 and it's competition. Decided it was a huge scam and waste of money. Glad to see validation.
That exorbitant price isn't paying for the product, it's paying for his marketing and his extraordinarily high priced lawyers. No matter what the product, regulated or not, a huge marketing budget is always a major red flag.
I bought AG1 about four years ago. I was a health conscious person at the time, 29 years old, and would jog for about an hour or more a few times a week for fun and exercise. I started drinking AG1 every day for about two months as recommended. I was forced to quit the second month after having intense chest pains that I'd never experienced before.
I self-monitor EKGs 1 to 3 times a day with Kardia Mobile, since October 2022 with over 3,000 EKGs. Blood pressure, too, with Omron wrist cuff. My cardiologist loves it & it's very eye-openingg to me, anytime! I used to run 6 miles a days 6 days a week, plus home gym. I'm battling cancer now & winning. Just bought new home gym equipment. Life is precious!

I buy 3 kale plants for the garden each spring. I end up with so much I supply every "Maria" in my predominately Azorean immigrant neighborhood(town, state, entire SE New England). Then I give bag after bag to the food pantry, eat it in foods & smoothies. I still have plenty to dry before I give up & watch them continue to produce through the first few snowfalls before tossing them into the compost pile

I am a physician practicing integrative medicine and I was concerned when my patients first started showing up drinking this stuff for their morning appointments. Every company should be completely forthcoming with details of heavy metal and mold testing. It's part of the expense of producing high-quality supplements that will above all do no harm other than perhaps being overpriced. But part of the reason high quality supplements cost more than others is because, those companies are willing to do their due diligence and test their products on a regular basis. Thank you for not being afraid of litigation. As a doctor that is the stuff of my nightmares! If Pieter Atia promoted this stuff, then I'm gonna be really disappointed in him for not doing his own due diligence 😒

I saw an AG1 ad on a different YT video a little earlier today and remembered hearing Huberman promoting it. Your video was a suggested video after I finished watching another video, so naturally, I clicked on it to see what you had to say about an ad I'd been served up less than an hour prior.
When I first started listening to huberman, I looked into subscribing to AG1 because he raved about so much. I’m a health nut and I buy a lot of wellness products and supplements but I just couldn’t get myself to pay for $80 a month for a greens powder. I have a green smoothie almost daily and eat plenty of salads. I take a good multivitamin everyday so I didn’t think I needed it. I’m so glad I went with my instinct and didn’t waste my money on that crap. It’s literally all marketing. Also, the fact that huberman doesn’t disclose that he’s an advisor, and maybe even an investor. Huberman has lost all his credibility and respectability.
That and Kachava, I looked into both for my husband, who just had no energy $75 mo for 1 person, couldn't justify it. Turns out he was pre-diabetic, explains the lack of energy.

Anyone can make a mistake and try a product that's not as advertised. I'm sure we all have, even if not as blatantly overpromoted as AG1. Having the class to admit it, and figuring out it wasn't great (especially for the price) -- not so common. So good for you.

There is certainly a place for “proprietary ingredients” in many cases, but not for something you are ingesting and/or feeding to your kids, particularly from an unregulated industry that provides near zero consumer protection.

I tried ag1 couple years ago because of andrew Huberman. It made me feel terrible. And now that I’ve seen your Huberman video I know why this and other red flags were making me uneasy
I also bought a supplement that Huberman recommended. It was just an amino acid so I didn't think it could be that bad. It made me really sleepy in the middle of the day and then I got hit with massive sadness and the next night I had insomnia. Tried it again the next week and the same thing happened. Then I checked the study he cited about it and the study had said it was ineffective! He lied and I bought an expensive supplement and reaped the side effects. There was never any chance it was going to work. That's when I started reading his citations and realising they often don't say what he says they say
@@Vailor1984 AG1 sends them a script to read out where they say they drank it and felt better etc. The best you can hope is that the creator makes it clear they're reading a script. RU-vid puts ads for scam products on the same videos, I don't hold the creators more responsible than RU-vid.
The brilliance of the AG1 scheme is people like Huberman, and Attia, who have SOLD their credibility and act as proxies for an unsavory grifter selling an unspecified secret. So much to unpack here. None of these influencers have done any homework. (How could they because it’s secret powder). Building a RU-vid Channel brand and signing lucrative deals is clearly the objective for these guys. The money is intoxicating.

People like Huberman and Peter Attia are very good in a lot of their earlier content but since being insanely popular and being on talk shows and hanging out with the kardashians like Andrew all of their ads and videos are bull with 1% of valuable information and then they sell you on a product like AG1 or the Juuv red light panel
I saw another video a while back that described the lifecycle of the podcast. It was basically this model where people start out, have good content in the beginning, but then sponsorship comes into the picture. The more views the more revenue they get by funneling people to those products. They can get more views by having more controversial topics and guests. This is how they slide into having conspiracy theorists and extreme ideas on their shows.

@@christianortel I used to watch Rogan a lot and have mixed views on him. I like that he's had politicians on in the past and that we've gotten to see longer form interviews with them. The media only has sound bites or debates, we don't get to really see them talk at length. I've found that a lot of times though he has people who present alternative medicine or history and it's not really challenged. It's not an issue of free speech so much as it's an issue of people not fact checking what they hear and becoming misinformed. I would also point out that simply bringing on controversial guests for financial incentive is not the same as interviewing said guests from a legitimate place of wanting to understand their views better.
A while ago I stopped following any influencer hawking ag1. It just seemed like such a money grab. Their credibility went to zero. Then when I learned how much they were making…….WOWZA
There's one guy I watch who does ag1 ads, and he doesn't hide how gross it tastes, at all. He might be even playing it up, just guzzles down a glass while grimacing and parroting the ad-read through gritted teeth. I'm honestly not sure why or how they OK those ads and pay him for it, cuz it doesn't make it look appetizing or appealing whatsoever, or even how many sales they actually get from it. But it's very funny. I like when people do their ads in a VERY obvious "I am only doing this for the money, please don't buy this" way

I subscribed to AG1 because of Huberman's endorsement. Seemed like a good idea to minimize the amount of supplements. Stopped after about 6 months due to cost. My skeptical husband, an MD, just shared your video with me. Between this and the sex scandals, I am not listening to Huberman's claims anymore, especially if it means buying anything.
I've always had a good diet, so I've never had a need for any supplements, but after seeing so many influencers marketing AG1 I was starting to get a little curious... so thank you for killing my curiosity.
@@maxkahlow8622 to be fair, these days the depleted mineral density of soil means plants don’t have nearly as much benefits as before. And every day after a plant is picked, it rapidly loses its nutrients. So, unless you’re eating all your plants from home grown, organic soil in your backyard, you need to supplement. The trouble is finding reputable supplements.
Big Pharma? Subsidies? Big Pharma doesn't manufacture AG1 or other supplements. That's an entirely different industry. And pharmaceutical companies are not subsidised.
I don't fault any small YT channel for using sponsorships to finance their livelihood. But neither would I purchase anything only based on their word, just as I wouldn't buy something based only on an ad I saw on TV.
It's befuddling when you follow a channel that otherwise makes a lot of sense and feel very trustworthy, some are even wealthy people with other income streams so they don't even need ad income. But they still advertise questionable stuff, putting their credibility into doubt. Why would a creator, who doesn't need the extra money, throw their reputation in the trash and pollute their content with unnecessary ads?!

@twelfthhour lead is found in all your produce unfortunately. Our environment has been contaminated over the last 100 years. It's still used in aviation fuel, we'll never be 100% free of contamination.
It's important to be aware of, especially to avoid overconsumption, but Spirulina typically includes heavy metal contamination from the environment. A lot of foods that are high in minerals also include relatively high levels of heavy metals (e.g. seaweed, dark chocolate, etc.). Lead is everywhere in the environment. Soil and plants are never zero lead. Nor are animals or ourselves. You can aim for minimal lead contamination but zero lead is not realistic.

I just cancelled my subscription to AG1. The lead issue really bothers me and it is not disclosed in 49 of the 50 states in the US. Plus he was a real estate scammer in New Zealand and i dont trust him…thanks for the info
Given how many supplement manufacturees are out there, it is beyond me why people would chose one that 1) doesn't disclose its ingredients and 2) charges that much for unknown content. Take another Kiwi, Brad Stanfield. He also sells supplements (Microvitamins) but is very clear about every ingredient and the dosing.

There's a portion that seems just in pointing out the negligence of the company but it does continue to come across as more-so discrediting the product's effectiveness based off the dealings of the company who owns it. Ultimately if more time was spent focused on the actual math behind the "reported" nutritional value, how the supplements may give *some* benefits while partially also placebo, if certain amounts of each individual mineral can even be absorbed by the body in the time frame perceived to the consumer, (Think protein shakes, most bodies absorb different varieties of protein at different rates. Making it better to split "single servings" due to metabolism.) The reason I look at (though yet to ever purchase) any type of dietary supplement is to see if it can even be metabolized. Tl;Dr: Now that you have a comment based in logic to reply to, how about you reply in kind? Maybe next time you'll try to be informative instead of just being a cunt for sake of being miserable otherwise? You might learn you actually enjoy it! When everything was AG! everywhere I smelled something rotten. The whole thing was 'we're gonna give you all the veggies you need, but PROCESSED!'. First, I'm starting to suspect that we don't need ANY veggies, but if we do, the root of all food evil is processing. The more you change something from it's basic, natural form and content, the less healthy/more toxic it seems to be. I've been waiting for someone to do this video.

I used to follow a RU-vidr couple Trent & Allie. She used to promote them saying she consulted her OB-GYN and substituted her prenatal supplements. Imagine how many pregnant women were influenced and probably put their unborn children in danger.
That is awful. Same with that V they were trying to force on everyone. Well, everyone except for those that couldn't line up fast enough. I was horrified when (P)HARMMA kept lowering the ages in which those things were approved for. And all the stories about stillbirth, miscarriage, etc. So sad.
I bought a high quality blender, get to the grocery store about every 10 days, buy fruit, greens, berries and maybe some fiber, wash it at home, blend in the blender and store in the fridge for about a week, drinking it mixed with filtered water if too thick, may toss in some nuts or frozen veggies or berries mid week, grind again and have never felt so good. The blender was on sale so less than $100 and I have been doing this for over 2 years. If it sounds too good to be true is a good motto. Also, always: trust and verify.
Why blend it? Whats wrong with just eating it? I’m not trying to call you out. I’m honestly not sure why blending is necessary other than making a tasty smoothy.

You did a decent job talking about the scam that is the product. I would have liked to hear more on this. But I think the fact that the founder was a grifter in the past is the follow, not the lead. Hank Green is so right. There is no single Theranos of the supplement industry. An interesting question is which are the outliers that are NOT the Theranos? And which founders are the outliers and NOT an Elizabeth Holmes? Keep up the good work.
I tried this for a month because of a runfluencer. I followed their "protocol" and never noticed anything different from my usual glass of water in the morning. That is when I asked myself the real questions you should ask yourself when dealing with your health and couldn't find any real answers outside of paid testimonials. It ended up in the bin, with a feeling of being a naive s*cker. 🤷🏻♂️
To be fair there are plenty of proven, safe and effective real medications where you’ll never feel different although your health outcomes are improved. Regardless, only 4 weeks of any protocol (diet, sleep, etc.) is only going to have a small effect at best unless your starting point was terrible. That being said, it’s a part of the misleading marketing that AG1 sets the expectation that a basic nutritional supplement will have an immediate noticeable effect.
I tried this for around a year or two because I would have two big bowls of greens a day and figured it was roughly equivalent nutrient wise and around the same price wise. But I didn’t notice too much of a difference other than slightly less bloating due to obviously less fiber. Around a year ago, because I quit my job at the time, I cancelled the subscription and got a little smarter about buying slightly cheaper greens and eating my fiber more spread out through the day, and haven’t looked back since. I’m glad I only used it for around a year and not longer. Now the only supps I have are electrolyte beverages cause I don’t eat much salt otherwise. If pedialyte and stuff like that starts to come into question, I guess I’ll have to start making salt water myself I guess haha
I wonder what the oxalate content is. Spinach and beet greens are extremely high in oxalates. Oxalates prevent the absorption of iron, magnesium, and zinc. Oxalates also crystallize throughout the body causing pain, inflammation, and sometimes urinary stones.
If you eat healthy foods that contain oxalates, fruits, vegetables, and nuts, you will be healthier than if you don't eat fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Basically, with the consumption of foods that contain oxalates, you get a lot more positive than negative things, oxalates is negative but negligible.

The people on a mission against oxalates are another form of scamming. Oxalates and their inhibitors are found in the same foods. It is mostly a wash. There are far more kidney stones produced in a carnivore's diet, just made from different forms of calcium.

Dude said he made it right to the end of his degree and dropped out. Yup I’m sure he only had 1 day left before graduating and just said f it and quit. Anytime someone says this, they’re lying hard, guy probably made it a year before flunking out
I had a friend who did this to a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. Even did his thesis but never submitted it. He belonged to a sect and the leader recommended that he find menial work instead.
Not that it really matters to the video, but I actually know two people irl who were less than a year away from graduating and dropped out. Different reasons, if memory serves, but it does happen.*shrug*
@@calvinc7196 I basically did the same thing with my first degree. I had been mentally hanging on by a thread for 3 semesters at that point, and that thread snapped 2 weeks before I would’ve started my thesis.

Investors swallow that egotistical dropout narrative since most grew up in money and got an easy, BS-able degree as a formality and also facebook's PR-ified history. Anyone who is also from the field that the grifter is affiliated with can sniff through their PR crap and see the real reason they dropped from uni is more due to them only being mentally fit to graduate from head-up-own-ass academy.

Many health authors are noting the negative effects of seed oils/ vegetable oils. They are very high in Omega 6 fatty acids. Processed foods are implicated in decreasing one's health. Seed oils are of the most processed, unnatural too toxic to the human body. AG1 recommends a 12G scoop, 7388mg is Spirulina and the 2nd most ingredient then listed is premium soy lecithin, this is a high omega 6 bean oil. The last listed ingredient on it's list is Natural Flavors. Adding up all of the other milligrams leaves 1672mg of Natural Flavors, natural flavors is anything from animal or plant origins. Another potential seed oil derivative because such a processed ingredient is highly stable and extends shelf life.
@@denniscerletti2244 anti-seed oil is a cult too. Seed oils by themselves are NOT the problem. It’s the reheating of seed oils, as is regular practice at ALL fast food chains, that is the problem.
I for one am so glad you made this video! Even though three different RU-vid channels I subscribe to, whose content creators I really respect are sometimes sponsored by AG1, I was always put off by the product. #1 I could never get Soilent Green out of my head. #2 The "it's the end all be all" too good to be true crap, NEVER sits well with me. It's just a red flag. and #3 The across platforms marketing was a red flag with no owner's face to attach to it, struck me as odd. What man on the planet doesn't like to brag about his latest/greatest inventon/product/discovery. My intuition told me there was MAJOR sketch going on here. Now this is where our Government should Do 3 things. #1 Sieze/freeze his assets. #2 Boot his ass back to New Zealand #3 split those said assets with New Zealand. #4 Call 60 minutes in both the US and Australia.#5 Have AG1 tested by the FDA for safety/toxicity levels. Thank you for covering Atheltic Greens. I knew it had to be the usual bullshit but so many creators were doing testimonials I didn’t know how to combat it. Also congratulations on working in “slurry” the most times I have ever heard in one video.
The ad didn’t play. Thank you for creating this video and all of the other work you do, very commendable! I spent two years going to school to study nutrition. During that time I learned about the body, supplementation, food, the psychology of disease, sports nutrition, and many other topics. Although I have my own RU-vid channel, I’m most certainly do not have the marketing prowess and dollars that many of these so-called health experts do. When I started to see AG one show up, I immediately questioned its nutritional value, and what it would do for my clients. I do suggest supplements to my clients, but they come from professional companies with very high standards in the ingredients they use and where they are sourced from. It is not uncommon for the supplements to be out of stock for a period of time while waiting for ingredients that meet their standards. I will not participate in any company that has direct sales or is multilevel because you can never get exactly what the contents of that product is. I also will not suggest and in fact I will deter my clients from purchasing any product that is marketed on the Internet, as being the next best thing for your health.
Tie does not have a proper knot but is lopsided. The knot should be small and exactly triangular to look good. Otherwise white shirt and tie would look good.
I make my own super green powder by dehydrating green salad,,kale, spinach, etc. and powdering them using spice or coffee grinder. I put the powder in capsules that I take daily. So much cheaper than any subscription-based health product/scams. 😊
Proprietary means the primary ingredient is the cheapest "green whatever" stuff and maybe a pinch of "other stuff". I'm surprised nobody has done an analysis of this product. There are a few companies will run tests for under $500 or so.
Proprietary also means ashden can change the recipie and let's say add turmeric to it.real issue as 2 big wigs have differing opinions on supplementing with it.
I knew a guy who set up a regular clear capsule factory for supplement companies in the 2000s. He sold it to a buddy who got rich convincing companies his were vegicaps (they weren't) but made it clear, he would stand behind his claim. He ran w/ 4M selling it to someone in Christchurch.... who did find out they weren't vegi caps. But, he kept selling his caps as vegi, as far as I know.
