As a South Korean I have the utmost respect and gratitude for the men who fought and died to save our country from North Korea. If it wasn't for their sacrifices I wouldn't be here today.
I just watched the movie, Devotion. I've got to say I never knew who he was until now but I can't ever forget him or the ultimate sacrifice he paid. Rest in peace Jesse L. Brown. YOU'LL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED!!
They talk and teach the samething every year during black History Month. There are more African Americans that can be acknowledged that did great things and Jesse Brown is one of them.
@@carmelliahairston8599 We are only taught what they want us to learn. That is why we all have to take it upon ourselves to not only learn about our history but to share and teach our own both children and adults. Blessings
@@ryandunn4179 I agree and that's why my daughter was an elementary school every year when she had to do it a class report. Always Chose Someone different. When she was in 3rd grade she did a report on Nelson Mandela. Sadly the kids in her class didn't know who he was. He passed away that same year and because she educated her class they knew who he was.
Hi Me too. I mean that I had not ( not surprising) heard of him, but I will keep his memory, military efforts, his determination and more alive. I felt touched by the movie that led me to purchasing a model plane, not a plane. A F4U and I am currently building it. I also heard of and will not forget the brave Red tails. The museum is in Detroit. I have it on some list.
@@dalebell3175... WAR took him. Why put the guy in the same group as others. Not all of his people had a problem being separated from North Korea. That wasn't necessary to even mention.
As a UK vet, I’m sorry for your loss of an amazing hero. No matter our skin colour we bleed the same colour! Proud to have friends from ALL ethnicities
I'm from the UK originally. Dad moved us to the US when I was 4. I always wanted to do something to earn my way for the right to be an American so I joined the Marines. We lost another immigrant to the US in the Gulf - James Reyes Lang. God bless his family. God bless Jesse Brown and his family. Amazing story.
@@gnlout7403 Hey i saw your comment and i wanted to find out who James Reyes Lang is and i found the find a grave website where i saw the latest someone had paid respects online was a few years ago so i left a comment thank you i just wanted to tell you as i saw it from your comment
Jesse paved a way for many negro's in the navy. His white aviator friends also helped with that as well. They helped race relation at a divided time period in America. This was a great movie to watch. Me and my son cried at the end. Rest in Peace Jesse - my take was he finally got what we all want. ACCEPTANCE .....I served VF124 Tomcat - TOPGUN AMS3
And not all heroes wear a cape. What an inspiring story and what an incredible friendship they had in the era of segregation. We see in these two men the best of humanity. Eternal respect.
Devotion made me cry at the end I wanted him to live so bad and to find out he didn’t make it 😢Sip Mr Jesse green Thank you for serving and your time here🙏🏾 love and peace to his family
The question that no one seems to know the answer to is why? Why are we hated on EVERY CONTINENT ON THE PLANET, by EVERY PEOPLE who are not us? The only reason I can think of is 'because they are not us'.
Men like this, are what the Republic is made of. I'm a veteran of the gulf War, my father. A Vietnam veteran and grandfather a WWII veteran. If we don't move beyond the evils of the colonial past, we'll never actualize the greatness of America.
My dad was a WWII Navy Veteran but never mention this though it was after him and he kept up with their news. I don't think he knew. Reading Hudners quest to bring home up until 2013 I think spoke of the love and concern he had for his comrade was refreshing. So glad to see these hidden stories told yet many don't want it to be taught or shared. Great movie.
Such a tragedy of life, to overcome all those obstacles only to die. Amazing life he lived. I don't think I could've overcome it. I hope one day the dream of Martin Luther King will become real and we can stop all the hate. RIP Jesse, you were loved by many who never knew you. I am one.
@@Pokerjinx they been trying for decades to bring whatever left of him home. Family is still working it out with NK. And you probably right nothing left of him. But won’t know unless NK Government let’s them check.
@@axlyoung1218 Didn't NK did let them search? Whether they will do so again is the question. Since they bombed the plane, I am not sure what is left. I am sure if NK found they plane, they took what was left of it and what was left of him. If they did not find it, then the remnants are still there.
That's why I'm proud to be American, RIP Jesse's Brown, Please stop the hate PS All life's matter God bless you all , one more thing thank you Jesse's Brown ❤️🙏❤️
You do know he crashed behind enemy lines during a war? In the winter of Korea to really put it over the top. Ever go to Korea and experience their winters? It’s brutal. Stop being so judgmental.
@@kathycavitt3089what do you mean they could’ve gotten him out ? It’s 1950 below freezing , his friend gets the Medal of Honor for crashing his plane and TRYING to get him out , did you watch a different movie ? They didn’t have the jaws of life back then [the things the firefighters use to pull apart metal]
Sitting in my kitchen waiting coffee to brew crying like a child lol 😅 Fuck. Sometimes, humans can be really beautiful to one another. Wish that they could have brought Jesse back.
It has taken way too long for this story to be told. I first learned of Ens. Jesse Brown and Lt. Tom Hudner almost 50 years ago in T. R. Fehrenbach's fine book about the war in Korea, "This Kind of War", and was struck by the way Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner developed their relationship and their friendship. They were true wingmen.
The way he would have wanted to go I would imagine.. I would guess he died within the first 12 hours due to blood clots with blood not being able to circulate properly to his leg😔
That, and the 20 below zero temperatures. Hypothermia would have kicked in real fast, especially since he was pinned inside his aircraft and could not move.
Just watched the movie. I didn't know anything about these men Movie had me fighting the water works, Thank you Jesse Brown & Tom Hudner for your service
@@Pokerjinx My father was a forward observer w 1st Marine Div. at Chosin Reservoir. After he retired from Northrop Grumman in 1996, he joined the Chosin Few Association. I attended many cookouts, conferences and informal holiday get togethers with his buddies. The Navy fliers suppressed the (all black clad) Chinese and Korean troops so Chesty Puller could lead my father (who had -20 F frostbite and white phosphorus scars) and the Marines to the US Navy transport ships.
@@Pokerjinx My father called himself a "Forward Observer Mapmaker w a Radio". With his personnaly drawn military reconnaissance maps, he radio called in artillery and US Navy air support fire on the road to the sea to get the 1st Mar Div out.
@@ImTheDudeMan471 my respect. I know exactly what guys like your father did. I did something similar for a short time (in a desert). What's the story about Brown helping save your father, if you don't mind telling me?
@@ImTheDudeMan471 Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing. To both you and your father, thank you for your service to our country. God Bless you.
The media should run stories like this 24/7 , these are true heroes. These days we use the word hero loosely describing athletes and celebrities quite an insult to the people fought and give their lives for this country.
I love that this story is one of an amazing black man that no doubt faced hardships most can’t know; and he endured to simply be a loyal man. And then there’s that color made no difference to those that weren’t ignorant like many and some still are. Hudler has as much character as Jesse. Both brave amazing men and a breed I don’t see much of these days. Viking funeral was fitting. This story should show one thing: Nobody should be defined by anything but their character. The rest means nothing.
OK I just finished watching the film devotion in the credits. They talk about trying to bring Jesse’s body home but I think they really messed that up. The reason I say that is because his body was incinerated. Now I’m just kind of pissed off by the fact that, despite their best to try and make this a good movie, they sort of left out the hardest part about why it was so difficult to get Jesse out. Such as when Hudner crashes his plane he gets out of his cockpit in real life. Snow is up to his waist in the film the snow is not even up to anything he has the freedom to move around. maybe they just didn’t have the budget to literally do that or something along with the fact that it was on a mountain that wasn’t even surrounded by trees.
@@kathycavitt3089 Really? Says the person sitting in the calm comfort of their home posting on the internet. A bit different in real life. If a person who can crash land their aircraft in the snow behind enemy lines to save their friend wasn't 'trying hard enough', who do you think would have tried harder? Think before posting.
As a veteran and white looking but with creole heritage I wish every American would hear this story. Acknowledge the ills of the past but go forward with the example of a wingman coming for his partner.
Der Film geht unter die Haut. Ich war Soldat.(Germany, "Bundeswehr") Kameradschaft ging über alles. Egal welche Hautfarbe, Herkunft oder Religion.. AM Ende war es Freundschaft. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Watched the movie, Devotion, for the fist time just last night! A great Movie and now I get this video in my feed? I salute to the heroes of yester year! HOOAH!!!
A love story, the God loved Jesse, let's leave it like that and the Man Thomas that crashed to save him .... God appreciated and loved him deeply ... because the country he served treated him and his culture so unjustly but thank god for Thomas Hudner ♥️💡... a love story, thank you Jesse and Thomas
Seriously, I watched this story and got choked up. How in the hell racism still exists and especially in the U.S. with their fellow Americans. It is sickening to hear the horrific stories about how the African Americans were treated, and still are in some places. I would love to see the alternate universe of how White America would cope without the African American's influence in Industry, Music, Sport, Art and every other way of life if it was still a segregated country with the bigots and rednecks running the show.
I totally agree.. I would love to see how US the scum of American soil "they call us" the "thugs" wasn't for us the prison system that's saving America wouldn't be shit, "bias" we are and always will will remain the thread and backbone of this place my ancestors and US as well. I would love to see the alternate universe.... But until then we will continue to take our lashes and weave thru the cracks.. BUT WHITE AMERICA KNOWS THEY LOVE AND NEED OUR BLACK ASSES
1 John 3:16 - Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Peace and Blessings Warriors....
Was it really bad weather or was it Navy Higher ups deciding it wasn't worth the risk or resources for a "Colored Boy"... Jesse gave his wife a lasting message cause he knew They would not come back for him like his wing man did so dangerously!!! ✌🏾
If there’s one thing we can learn from him and his story is that it all starts with a vision. A dream. You don’t have to think and believe what you’re told. With a little imagination you can begin on a journey that will turn out to be something everyone who ever encounters your or your name will revere, love and respect. As a man that’s the ultimate win. You can’t really ask for more from this life we live. Plenty lived and died denying themselves the right to dream and think differently, they played it safe and when they look back at the life they lead they come to realize they haven’t lived at all
Jesse would not had wanted that, one of his loves was his wife and daughter and flying with one leg wouldn't have been a reality for him,_a one leg pilot would had ended his flight career, instructor maybe. The movie and the true facts do not add up.
Anyone else wondering? They said 3 days. Not impossible to survive. Even with bad weather, worse has been survived. What if they actually killed him with the Napalm.
Not impossible to survive? What do you know about the frozen chosin? 🤔 it was nearly impossible to survive. Temps as low as -36 Jessie died in his plane, trapped with Tom unable to free him.
