I remember when I was at school in maths, I heard the word Yugioh across the room. I got up and asked the person if they played, they said they did and asked if I’d like to go round their house and play after school. This event made me new friends, got me to learn the “proper” rules of the game. Got me to go to locals and then to a YCS. Got me to make a RU-vid channel and even got me invited to Konami HQ. Thankyou Kazuki Takahashi, honestly wouldn’t be where I am today without your work.

Grew up in a pretty broken home, and I can’t express how much Kazuki Takahashi’s work meant to me. His story was my escape from reality. RIP the true King of Games, a man who introduces so many youth to the world of anime which would later change their lives, a legacy worth remembering and honoring.

The fact that it was later revealed in the press that Kazuki Takahashi died a hero's death on top of all else, died in a storm trying to save lives, makes this tribute all the more heartfelt, and a tearful farewell to not only a man that did his best in his final moments to be helpful, but also created a successful franchise that played a major role in the childhoods and lives of many fans, may valhalla welcome him, may we sing praises of him until our voices give out, and may we honor the legacy he left behind.
Imagine being that teacher that said he was never gonna amount to anything. It's like Takahashi said "Aight bet" and set out to prove them wrong and he did and then some. Without Kazuki Takahashi, we wouldn't of had one of the most influential anime franchises of all time. Yu-Gi-Oh has influenced pop culture in so many ways and, I can probably speak for many others when I say this, was an essential part of childhood for many. R I P,. I bet right now, he's playing card games on motorcycles in heaven.
Yugioh was always more than just a game for me, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried when I heard of Takahashi's death. I loved the anime, and yugioh was one of the few things my father and I bonded over. I could never beat him, but that only ignited my interest in learning the game. When I moved house the same year I started High School, I was completely alone. No friends, nobody that I knew. I felt so alone and alienated, until I found the schools dueling club. Joining that club and dueling with those nerds were some of the best times of my high school years. Yugioh gave me a place I felt I belonged and helped me make so many friends. Hell, I even beat my dad after all those years, and he gifted me his deck as a reward. I still have all those cards to this day and still enjoy playing. Takahashi's work gave an entire generation of kids a place to belong and a way to come together. Thank you for everything you gave us, and may you rest in peace.
What a great story thanks for sharing …im an OG player I played in high school when it first came out along with playing sports I always loved the bonding and tactical thinking that came with yugioh …all my friends are older now and have families but I have been picking up old game boy yugioh games and playing through them…I will always love yugioh it will always be special to me I continue to play when I feel alone also it helps a lot .
Yu-Gi-Oh truly is a match against each other's souls. Facing an opponent and seeing their deck really opens up a window into how they view winning, how they view fun, and what they think is cool. Thank you for this amazing game.

Kazuki got scolded by his teacher, Leo Messi got scolded by his teacher, it really goes to show that you should never underestimate someone's hidden potential, which was exactly Takahashi's message to the world , i would give anything to see the faces of those two the very first time they heard of their former students' success.
This great man built my childhood. His art made me want to draw. The card game he inspired made me want to learn English. Rip Kazuki Takahashi, thank you for the memories. May your legacy (Yugioh, etc) lives on and also, you sparked so many friendships around the world with the gift you gave us.

A legend amongst men, he single handedly touched many childhoods through his incredible universe. To this day his manga, anime and game forges the bond of friendship that each Yu Gi Oh story holds at it's core. I got up every Saturday morning to watch new episodes of Yu Gi Oh and Yu Gi Oh G/X. Condolences to his loved ones. Yu-Gi-Oh! was an intrigual part of my coping when my mom died. She too was only 60 when she was killed. This coincidence that Mr. Takahashi too was only 60 shakes me to my core. Especially since I had gotten introduced to his work after losing her. May he rest in peace.
This game meant a lot to me. My first cards, that my parents bought me, they threw out. Years later, I got back into the game and have been playing for the past 6 or 7 years. Thank you Kazuki, you series and everything that spun off of it really helped bring me joy. It helped me make friends during many of my moves (I moved every 1-3 years cross-continent) I started getting back into Yu-Gi-Oh in 2021, it was so fun revisiting these stories from my childhood in this rough time. And relearning the card game has been really fun, sharing it with friends that never played it and planning out some decks to try at local tournaments this year. I started playing when I was 11, I'm 31 now, yugioh helped me getting better at math, had hella fun in high school and made so many friends and even today still, yugioh helped made me the man I am, I love this game the moment I picked up my first blue eyes white dragon. I'm here after Kazuki Takahashi passed away. (I saw it on Facebook). and I hadn't thought about yu gi oh since, 2009 or 2010 when I stopped watching and playing. My parents were poor. Dirt poor. I never got birthday presents or luxury's. And having a few loafs of bread, milk and sugar meant you had something to eat. (Side note: Bread pieces mixed with milk and sugar was delicious to me!. I didn't even know we where poor. lmao). I watched the usual cartoons. Sponge bob, Samurai Jack, DBZ ect we got that on free tv back then and I don't know what's on tv in this new day in age haha. But then suddenly a new show started playing, or at least a show I somehow missed in the line up. Yu Gi Oh. oddly enough I cant remember too much from the show as I was like 6 - 7 maybe. But because of the Facebook post I decided to re watch the first season and BAM!... there it was....I can't explain it. As soon as I started re watching the show I could smell the smell of our old sofa we used to have in the lounge. And I could damn near all most taste my bread and milk breakfast haha. I was re watching it with my nephew as he now wants to collect yu gi oh cards himself as I'm also introducing him to this world and I had to look away a few times as to not let him see that I was on the verge of tears at a couple of points. and also GOD IS SOME PARTS IN THE SHOW CHEESY hahaha but its ok. But I wasn't tearing up just from nostalgia. I can't remember most of it you see now that I'm 25 years of age but I KNOW 6 year old me LOVED IT!. and so......................... what made me tear up. well. Like I said Dirt poor. we had to move around a lot. A lot of family problems (Alcohol was the main culprit). And my richer friends PlayStation 1. (''He hadn't had bread with milk before he had met me so how rich could he truly be'' 6 year old me thought), Movies and cartoons were my ...''escape''. and so somewhere around 2003 maybe 2004 I wasn't expecting any thing for Christmas because we never got anything for Christmas. unless you count my big bros hand me downs lol (There where 7 of us siblings). but that morning my parents were sitting in the kitchen as I sheepishly entered the room and they where smiling. (I'm lowkey tearing up writing this part haha) . And I say good morning and my dad (He's an emotionless black hole but I know he loves me), My dad nods his head towards our cupboards, I look up and I see a box wrapped in news paper. I drag a chair over so I can reach. pull the box down and on top of this box is a ten dollar note taped to the top of the box!!! I WAS RICH. RICH I TELL YOU. my poverty stricken dumbass thought the ten dollar note was so converted in our family (LITARALLY THE ONLY MONEY MY PARENTS HAVE EVER GIVEN ME), EVER, that the box holding it must be some sort of podium for such a revered piece of paper to sit on hahaha. and so my goofy ass took the ten off and went to walk out. Prolly going to buy me an Island or something haha. but my dad told me to open the wrapping. I tore it open and inside the news paper was a box and on the side of it was a toaster ( it was the box that our new toaster came in a few months prior) but over the picture of the toaster, in permanent marker wrote ''Merry Christmas Yin'' I ripped off the tape holding the box shut. looked in it. and there it was. two Yu gi oh packs loosely sitting inside. its still the best gift I've ever been given. And so that's why I was tearing up re watching the show. and why I'm currently tearing up writing this now. were my parents perfect parents. NO. But there was always some food on the table. and blanket's on our beds. I've never told my parents how many times I had caught them seeing our monthly bills watching them. Thinking how they thought they were slick and had snuck off without us seeing. I saw. I saw my mom and dad hide in there room and blame themselves and whatever choices they had made till that point for us being too poor to afford a better life. Better conditions. I've caught my mum crying after I asked her why we don't have back packs or books for school... a f*#@ing fake ass Christmas tree at least. I now know as an adult. Just how much they must have saved and how hard they must have tried to work to afford em. And so that smile on there face. mmmaaaannnnn that smile on there face. when they saw how happy they made me....... I love my parents. I miss being 6. I miss when life was a little bit simpler. you know. I have a few packs of cards on the way. the first I've had since that Christmas day 20 years ago almost. I hope my nephew likes them. I hope I see the same smile on his face. Peace and Love. And believe in the heart of the cards.

OG yugioh was and still is one of my favorite comfort shows. it was the only thing I'd wake up Saturday mornings as a kid to watch. it was so good even my mom and uncle ended up loving the show to. yugioh got me through some really tough times as a kid. I'll always be grateful to this man forever

I haven't collected the cards or played with my magians deck in years, but when I heard of his passing, I felt hollow inside. The Yugioh franchise inspired me as an artist, a writer, and as a general person. This series created an evolving world that I grew up with, in addition to one of my all time favorite characters. Yugioh became something iconic, and its heartbreaking to know Takahashi is gone. My condolences to his family and the team he worked with. My thanks for the amazing world he created. He was indeed a great man in creating the YuGiOh universe. He did something different from other anime and trading cards. When I play Yugioh cards, I forget all my problems and just have fun.
My first exposure to the manga was through Volume 1, issue 2 of the U.S. Shonen jump, which included the chapter where Yami Yugi faced off against (and burned alive) the escaped convict. The darker tone of the Manga compared to the anime cemented me as a fan. Anzu was pretty hot too... RIP Takahashi.

I was always a lonely boy growing up and found it difficult to make friends but Yu-Gi-Oh gave me a way to interact with others and help me to make connections with other kid for me and for many other this was not just a game but an important part of our childhoods

I remember long ago, maybe 20 from now. Watching Yu-Gi-Oh on the television. I was so excited to see the Monsters becoming real and fight against each other. Also I recognized how strong freindship can be and how important it is to have good friends. After some Days my mom came back from work with a booster in her hands. My first Yu-Gi-Oh Cards and my first best Card from the Booster was Crab Turtle. I battled against my Brother eatch of us only with 7 or 9 Cards from the Booster, but it maked so much fun. After some weeks/months I got a large Collection and we played it everywhere with friends. In school, on the playground and at home. It was a very great time and I appreciate to took part on this great work in my youth.
Perfect and amazing tribute to this amazing man. Yugioh has affected so many childhoods myself being one. And it truly sucks he's gone. I hope he knows we're all going to be dueling with him in spirit, just like he's dueling with Pharaoh's Atem and Seto in the afterlife.

I went back into Yu-Gi-Oh! 4 months ago because of a friend, last time I played it was 20 years ago and despite not having a physical deck I enjoy playing the mobile games, on the 12th of June I got corona and started watching 5D's because I had nothing to do and two days before Kazuki sensei passed away finished the anime, now all the good moments and good things from that series will become a sad but also a great experience that will be carved in my memory. Thanks sensei for all your hard work sensei.
A great man, and a great legacy that deserves to be remembered for all time. When I was a kid, I was timid, not good a many things, and spent a lot of my time alone, much like Yugi. Then that fateful day came when my family received a VHS tape in the mail; a short film promoting the brand of YU-GI-OH!. When I discovered Takahashi's creation, I had something to strive to be good at. I had something that made me want to work hard to better myself. Even though his path is at an end, Mr. Takahashi will live on through his work. The lessons that his creation taught us, the friendships it helped us create, and the passion and drive it gave us all to do our very best will live on, in every single one of us. I watched the anime alot as a kid (I even remember getting the promo vhs in the mail!) and while I lost interest in later series, I admit this series still has a place in my heart Rest in peace, Takahashi-sensei.

I came to Yu-Gi-Oh entirely through chance back when I was 11. My little brother and I shared a room back then and a TV and we took turns choosing what to watch. It was his turn to choose something and he just happened to flip to cartoon network while Toonami was on, I believe either Inuyasha or Zatch Bell had just ended and a new show was coming on. I didn't really want to watch it but my brother did so I went with it, but from the moment I heard "Long ago, when the pyramids we're still young" I was immediately hooked. The lore was fascinating, the narration was interesting, and the intro that followed was BADASS! Yu-Gi-Oh became one of our favorite shows from that day forward and we even started collecting the cards and built our own decks. I still play to this day and have seen every incarnation of the anime except for Sevens and have played several of the video games too. So much of my childhood and memories with my brother and friends I owe to Kazuki Takahashi, but he'll never truly be gone because everything he's given me, everything he's given all of us will stay with us. So all of us can know everytime you watch another episode, buy new cards, or duel with your friends you're keeping Takahashi's memory alive and as long as even one person remembers him and enjoys what he left us he'll always be here.

I've been a fan of Yugioh since before i can remember. It's one of the few franchises that I have kept up with over the years and even into decades now and i have to thank Kazuki Takahashi for that for wanting to make something out of his work and himself. To this very day, me and friends that i've manage to get into Yugioh along the way still duel and the next one will be for the creator himself.

I grew up both on Pokemon first and then found Yugioh. pokemon was really just the video games and collecting cards to me never played the tcg, but yugioh, me and my brother would play for hours battling each other, making new decks and even going to our friends houses to play with them. I wasn’t very good at reading as a kid, & the game helped me to want to learn how to read/get better at the game Kuzuki Takahashi has created. I’ve met a lot of people along the way from regionals, ycs tournaments, & nationals as well as many locals I’ve played in throughout the two decades! I’ve met my childhood best friend from playing yugioh, & we still talk today. We use to watch yugioh right before heading to out local tournament, & books a million hobby league tournaments. My father use to buy me booster boxes for chores, & give me a few packs every once in a while. Thank you for the game, manga, anime, & video games you’ve created Kazuki Takahashi! Friends I made back in my youth im still friends with today. And we all met eachother because of yugioh. Tho I never knew Takahashi personally. He had an incredible impact on all our lifes and we'll never forget him and his dreams of friendship though card games.

My personal attachments to the game I feel lies beyond more than cards. It lies with the memories I made with the franchise, I remember the first time I was introduced to Yugioh, I watched the anime on TV, and I knew it was a game I wanted to get into so eventually I got my first box of Yugioh cards which I found at a little store one night with my Parents, Aunt, and Uncle. And then I tried getting my friends into the game which I was successful with some, not so much with other's. Then I made a friend who got me involved into Local Tournaments which got me introduced to even more friends and seemed almost like a family. So I do owe this franchise a lot and personally cherish Yugioh in a way to me, that sounds more of like a book of its own. So, thank you a lot Kazuki Takahashi. May you Rest in Peace.

I'm binge watching yu gi oh right now to remember him because it's thanks to him I have such fond memories of my childhood because I grew up watching the show on tv.
I remember first watching the Yugioh anime and being rather drawn in, the cards the various battles. I even had my own deck at that point, consisting of Blue eyes White dragon, Red eyes Black dragon, Dark Magician and Summoned Skull. sadly that deck is lost to time as was my second deck. years later I'm getting back into this game, and rebuilding my new deck. so thank you Kazuki Takahashi rest in peace the True king of games.
Yugioh was my 1st card game i got into, i didn't even know what the game was or anything of the show but i loved it, as my friends got pokemon cards my dad took me to an old card shop in the city that he knew, and i remember the old guy said he got some new cards that i might like ( 95% of the card shop was collector cards, not card game cards). Now that I say that out loud, it feel like I'm just ripping off the show or some other tv trope. but i like that it was real (ealy 2000s) just as it was coming out and i had some of the cards before most of my class, as the show and game became more popular so did i and made some good friends as we all learned and played,
