The stunning virtuosity of Otto Sauter breathes new life into hitherto unknown manuscripts of the Austrian Barock. Biber is here, of course, as the most famous of the Bohemian composers who found their home and their fortune in this socio-political lodestone of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but so too are others who took up posts in the cathedrals and courts of princes, and bent their talents to produce music of a splendidly ceremonial, extrovert character to match the ringing sonorities of the natural trumpet. Otto Sauter is a player worthy of his instrument’s regal connotations, and the Czech Capella Istropolitana have immense experience in music of this period.
