the distractions isnt about dopamine its about the executive functions faillure the lack of dopamine is the motivation most that why you cant self motivate adhd is a bad name adhd is an executive function defecit there is no link between the knowledge and the performance . "you know what to do but you cant do what you know " and we make as much dopamine as normal brains but in our brain is a vaccuum cleaner in the synapps and what meds do is turn of the vaccuum cleaner . nice movie but its really difficult how to explain it because the whole internet is full of crap "its just an attention problem " i wish it was ...
I’ve heard the try harder/stop being lazy thing so many times. I was always the smart kid in school and my symptoms didn’t present till middle school, which is really pretty late as far as adhd goes. So when they did I was always disappointing teachers and parents because of terrible procrastination and inability to stay focused on class. Never did any homework and would spend hours on video games. Always got A’s on tests and exams, but literally had zeros everywhere else because I just couldn’t mentally or physically get it started. It also presented as severe anxiety on top of being a “late bloomer” as far as symptoms go, so I only recently got a doctor that really understood and took a chance on me. Now I’m on Adderall and it has made my life so much easier and I can really properly function now, and tap back into that potential I’ve always had!
Also as a special note and ‘thank you,’ your videos opened up my eyes again to possibly being adhd. I was convinced from my peers and family for the longest time that there’s no way I could have that and that it wasnt real and I just needed to apply myself. Went through a few years time of being isolated and going through drug addiction because I was so alone and repressed with my mental health. Sorry for the TMI personal info dump lol
Hey! Don't apologise you can share anything you want on here! :) I'm sorry you had such a hard time with it going undiagnosed! It's always harder when others around you are convincing you it's just you not applying yourself or being lazy :( sadly that's how it goes for a lot of us adhders and it's a real shame. But I'm really happy for you that you got a diagnosis and are getting a treatment that works for you that's amazing!
3:33 "... its just that they've learned how to cope with their symptoms a lot better..." or more accurately "... its just that WE've learned how to HIDE symptoms a lot better..."👊
my mom was talking to me about how i supposedly "grew out of it" recently last year and I told her about all the stuff that I learned from this channel. Afterwards she did her own research and found out she was wrong all along and that got her thinking "omg! all these things my son has ARE actually part of ADHD" so now she wants me to get meds for it so it can help my life better. who knows, maybe it will help me out when trying to muster the focus on being a youtuber/streamer. I gotta admit even though I'm not working right now I still end up putting it off sometimes because I got so much on my mind that I just want to relax.
Thank you for putting this out here, because I have ADHD, this is nice to hear, I’m 16 and have ADHD and I learned how to cope with it, but it’s also nice to hear this kind of stuff. So thank you, you definitely have my subscription.
Great video! I’ve heard all of them, but the ones that stick with me are, “ADHD isn’t real”, and “all you need to do is try harder”. The try harder thing has hurt me most in life and really took down my self esteem, mostly because I started believing it. Thinking that every time I failed at something, it was because I didn’t try hard enough.
If its too personal its fine, but would you ever do a story of my life style of video, maybe even a draw my life video? I'm just pretty interested if your story is similar to mine and pthers with ADHD
I don't have ADHD but i have autism. I hate people (like karens) who think it's a myth that it even exists. I'm fine with people making jokes but once i saw a review on steam for some game i can't remember and it said "this game is autism" which i found infuriating.
I wished someone had told me about the nutrition aspect of things. Making sure that you eat a healthy diet and get adequate sleep are incredibly important to making sure that the medication is effective.
Thanks for subbing :) welcome to the ADHD fam! It can be frustrating when people don't believe in ADHD tbh... But that's why we all gotta stick together! :)
its either me or my adhd that realy REALLY hates that silly zoom in you keep doing to "make a point" love the videos. please stop the pointless zoom. that kinda zoom is for "normal" youtubers trying to make a "funny" this channel seems more about factual info on adhd. the zoom you do is SO out of place for the topic. is this my adhd ?
Lol thanks for the feedback :) I do that for a few reasons, yes it's to emphasize a point but it's also to hide jump cuts in the video and to stop the video itself becoming stale because it's the same shot in the same position for 7 minutes of video ;) the channel is factual but it's also my personality and I like to add humor into it when I can so it makes it fun for me to create
Im 14 and have to deal with adhd all on my own because my uncle (the only one i live with) refuses to believe that i have it and he just calls me lazy. This video makes me feel better🙂
Medications like Ritalin or Adderall are such heavy bombs to the organism - is it worth for most of the diagnosed children to take this stimulants for gaining more focus but potentially destroying their health permanently? Besides they are no permanent solution I assume. Did you ever make a video about all the possible risks that come with taking the meds? Are there any therapeutic solutions that exclude these and are able to help anyways? Thx for replying.
I didn't make a video yet on risks because the truth is there's risks to any medication you take, and really I don't want to be negative towards a treatment that not only works for me but also works for a whole lot of people and is most peoples only option for treating something they struggle with yanno? Plus there is plenty of negative stigma going around about ADHD medication without me adding to it, I think people need positivity about it :)
@@MewithADHD - It's completely up to you which side you shed light on. Positivity is a good thing and ADHD is a burden. But let's not forget that there is a side to everything, thanks for answering btw.!
Do you really have adhd?🤔 Do you get scoially exhausted? Are you medicated currently? I dont like purple its an uncomfortable colour... Someone tols me marijuanana will help my adhd is that true? PS i learned somethinf anout my happy/enjoyment issue, fron this video thanks
Thank you for doing this video, I will definitely link to it to show some “on the fence” people. I totally relate to a lot of what you point out here. Amongst stuff that pops up for me, is that “ADHD drugs change your personality”. I don’t know about you, but being European we also have to deal with people back home and the added stigma of the perception that “Americans” are over-medicated. So in their view (back home) we have let ourselves be brainwashed into taking these drugs. I always tell them I despise “big pharma” and the damage it has done to millions, but I can still hold that thought while appreciating the work and research that has gone into crafting these very specific and targeted medications, so please don’t throw away the baby with the bath-water. And yes, the “made up” syndrome idea pops up A LOT. Now, just one personal observation (or my 2 cents) when you address the people who don’t understand the need for drug treatment as “those idiots” - while I TOTALLY get where you are coming from - you might miss the opportunity to open the minds and inform people who are simply ignorant. They are, as you say “uneducated”, but it’s all of our job to “educate” patiently and compassionately. And you are, otherwise extremely compassionate and respectful of other people’s feelings, from my observation. I myself had VERY mixed feelings for YEARS about taking any mental health drugs and if someone had taken the time to explain things very well and make distinctions, I might have benefited form an earlier diagnosis. You do such a great job educating people by sharing so much of yourself, in such a kind, playful and compassionate way on all your videos, that I think at 4:25 you might have given in to your frustration and temporarily lost sight of the message you are otherwise putting across very well. I hope you see that as heartfelt, constructive criticism from someone who follows you and loves your work (I am that “felsina” on Instagram) Keep up the good work!
Hey felsina :) good to hear from you! I'm so glad you are still watching! Yeah I have heard a lot from England with people using American stereotypes with the medication over here, mainly because medications like Adderall are actually banned in the UK! So it makes it even harder for them to understand at times. Hehe I am always happy to receive any feedback and thats so lovely of you to say about educating people, I try to do the best to be as open as I can and it means so much to know that you appreciate that! My idiot comment was more catered towards the trolls that comment on my videos sometimes. I do a fairly good job of screening them out but every now and again people comment about our community being meth heads and drug abusers just to hurt people's feelings, this was a small dig at those guys ;) but you are really sweet to point that out in such a nice way 😅 I hope everything is well with you by the way!
@@MewithADHD Oh, everything's great thank you! I love your videos and sorry I've been out of touch, but I've actually been totally focused on "getting my focus" employing various methods of time tracking, calendar blocking, task management etc. I follow the "Keep Organized" videos and FB group by Francesco D'Alessio, another UK guy, very sweet and helpful, tons of great organizing resources. Now I understand the added "energy" you had over the "idiots" that makes total sense. It's actually nice that you explain it here. That what people see here is the result of your constant monitoring to keep your You Tubes clear of trolling. Must be hard work and boy do people have time to waste! Take care now. PS: I have to make sure I have enough of my Adderall, since I'm traveling to Europe, back home Italy and UK. Can I bring my med from here, or will they try to confiscate it? Now I'm concerned... I need to find out. Maybe I just need my doctor's prescription with me...
Aww I'm just glad to see you back amongst the comments again! :) Yeah people sure do have a lot of time to waste on nasty comments! I was just reading up on traveling as I'm headed to the UK myself next month! In England you can take enough to cover a 3 month stay I believe! I don't know about italy or anywhere else in Europe tho sorry :( I hope you have an amazing trip tho!!!
@@MewithADHD It's good to know that, I'm only going for less than a week, but since I'm traveling to a couple more countries, now you inspired me to find out about the customs situation. Fortunately I'm not going to Dubai. Apparently they don't let you take ANYTHING there...
I have ADHD, and i think it is a super power, but it comes with some cons. The first thing is we are able to hyperfocus which means to focus on something and not be distracted untill it is done. We just can't focus on the things we don't like. And did you know Albert Einstein might of had ADHD. Medication has made my life better and easier to find friends. In elementary school I was the anyoing kid. Most people with ADHD exceed in the things they like or are interested in but get bored, and lose focus on things they don't like. I could go on and on about this but it would take way to long. If anyone has a different view on this please let me know in the comments.
One I hear all the time is "people with adhd are bad with emotions and don't feel them the same as us" like people with adhd do feel emotions and they can just have a harder time showing like either showing way to much or none at all
I once had to yell at my teacher because I forgot to take my meds (“brightspark” for anyone who wants natural meds) and I kept zoning out and drawing and she told me to focus and didn’t believe that I was ADHD.
