I'll be starting my senior year of high-school in the fall and this morning I got a letter from Allegheny College. It was the standard "come check out our school" letter but it had a note at the bottom from the admissions counselor which is making this one of my top choices. The personalisation of the letter and attention to detail was something I haven't seen from any other school so it really stood out to me. Thank you for posting this video, now I'm sure that this is the school I want to commit to.
Hi :) Thank you for watching! I am so glad to hear that! The personalization and the extra effort to bond with students were also what attracted me to Allegheny... You can always reach out to me for any extra info throughout the year. Best of Luck!!
I'm an exchange student from Japan and I'm currently in Allegheny, I watched your video for many times before leaving. Thank you for sharing helpful information💖
I remember that cancelation because my dorm had a fire alarm that took 2 hours to turn off and we were all standing outside freezing in the -20 after wind chill. But the school bought us pizza.
Typical Cost of Attendance for a middle class family is about $26k. It's far less than Pitt, Penn State, Seton Hill and Point Park. It's about $6000 more than Slippery Rock and about $10000 more than Cal U.
This was WONDERFUL!! I grew up in Meadville and on Allegheny’s Campus. Everything you described took me back to my childhood. Thank you for posting this!!!
Enjoyed hearing you talk about Allegheny. My parents went to Allegheny and met in the early 70s while in college. My dad grew up in Meadville. I am much older than you and ended up going to Ohio University but the last time I was in Meadville I walked around Allegheny's campus and enjoyed it. Like OU, Allegheny has such a pretty campus.
As an alumna your updates were interesting. Sorry that Coved negatively impacted your college career. But better an Allegheny student on a small caring campus than a big university. I was a Spanish major, minors were not required when I attended. We had to complete a set percentage of courses in areas outside our major AND pass a swimming test! Allegheny was the perfect college for me. Best of luck with your education. I enjoyed your post.
Hi! Your perspective is really interesting to read. I didn't know that Allegheny didn't always require a minor, but that was one of the selling points for me lol... I guess completing a set percentage of courses outside of the major is similar to the distribution requirements now? I had to pass a swimming test in HS and after that I decided that was enough for me, so I'm glad I don't have to do that now haha! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It means a lot :)
I’m from Meadville. Too bad you weren’t in college in the 80’s and early 90’s in Meadville. Before the Internet killed all the malls and shopping plazas. My older sister attended Allegheny for a few semesters, and my mother was the campus nurse back in the 80’s. You’re spot on about the snow. It used to be worse, and many of us remember when it was common to have snow flurries on Trick or Treat night. Do the students at Allegheny still call the locals “townies”?
I understand! I was always looking for this kind of vid 2 years ago before I committed.. I was lucky that one of my friends was already here so I got some inside scoop from her. Hopefully I helped out a little?! Congrats on committing (hopefully you don’t regret it) n maybe I’ll see you around next semester :)
My cousin Zara went to Allegheny College to swim and play softball and major in Music she loved it there and the best part is she was in a different state than me so we couldn’t fight like usual
I am an international student from Kazakhstan and I have won a $38k trustee scholarship but I cannot afford the rest of the tuition fees. What can I do?
hey i’m dmyra so i got the standard letter in the mail for Allegheny and i’m a senior in high school starting september 7th and i really want to attend that school i stay in niagara falls 😭 so it’s like 2 hours away but.. my mom is disabled to do i quality for financial aid and ps i want to major in pre-med and neuroscience ☺️
Hi! Allegheny has a bunch of different scholarships that you have a chance of receiving when applying. They are also really good with accommodating the needs of students. If you check out the main website you can find more info there and even a phone number and/or email to reach out with specific questions. Good luck your senior year :)
Hello! thank you for watching! :) I formally toured two Pitt branches (Greensburg n Johnstown) and St. Vincent College, and I visited LaRoche, CalU of PA, and Seton Hill University (I forgot that I did when I made the vid lol) for HS events... One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the fact that the school required you to have a minor, which allowed me to comfortably pursue what I actually wanted to do... The school also offered me a great scholarship that I couldn't pass up (I took an exam to try to get a full ride at SVC and didn't get it). I also just really liked how pretty the campus is and it was where I felt most comfortable out of all the colleges I had been to. Hope this helped and wasn't too long :))
I think it just depends on your comfort level. I only really wanted to go to Allegheny and the other school I applied to was more of a "backup." I know people here that applied to at least 5 schools and I know other people who literally only applied to Allegheny lol... I am manifesting an acceptance letter from all of the schools for you :)
Congratulations on committing to Allegheny! I believe you can work and earn up to a certain amount of money through the school per semester but I don’t believe it is as high as 6-7k total unfortunately. You can also reach out to your admissions counselor and/financial aid office to see all the options Allegheny has to offer too! I hope this helps and thank you for watching! Good luck and enjoy Allegheny, it goes really fast!!
