Thank you for this video. I've been thinking someone should make a video like this ever since the troy grady youtube craze began. If you can't cross strings on a down stroke, you need to go back to step one, how to strum a guitar. (btw I love troy, and think he has great insights, but I'm not a fan of how he presents his ideas like they're the only key to speed) Anyways, new sub for you!

Ben thanks for this video again, i'd like to ask this question, as everybody said picking fast should seem natural like you're not doing any efforts at all, but sometimes when I pick vey fast i fee some of my muscles under my biceps precisely moving a little bit, i'd like to know if it's okay or should i feel nothing in that area, btw it's not pain or any kind of tension, just like muscles there engaging while picking fast, does that happen to everybody?

Hey Ben, just a question concerning alternate picking - what's your opinion on Troy Grady's pick slanting concept?

It makes sense. I just don't concentrate on pick slanting because the pick slant is just the end result of where your hand is when playing, not something that you aspire to in and of itself. For example, the pick itself doesn't drive your picking motion, your hand / wrist / arm does. The only time the pick slant becomes important is to understand how it can help / hinder us during string crossing, most particularly inside picking. If "pick slant" is used just to describe the angle of the hand then fine - other than that its importance can often be over emphasised.

thank you for answering. I have recently started working on an outside-picking Paul Gilbert lick. thanks to Troy I've estabilished a strategy how to play that up to speed

Dude, did you have to do a service stint for the Queen? (similar to Gus Drax) Don't feel too bad. I did my 6 (years) for Uncle Sam. Though my was voluntary (USMC) .. Or, is it just that "day job?" Anyways, nice instruction. Been playing myself (off and on) for some 30+ years. Even tagged my axes along (with my Pignose) from base to base during my tour of duty .. My primary axe right now (since '96) has been my '96 RG570 paired with a '90s Valvestate (100W) Combo. Still does the job quite nicely. Enough to still scare the neighbors .. (and/or piss them off)

Dunlop Jazz III XL black

Im sure you've tried the Dunlop Sharp picks? I use the black ones, same thickness, 1.35. Very Similar to the Jazz lll, but sharper. Very unforgiving in terms of accuracy, but they have more bite and attack imo. They are actually easier to play with after you get used to them as the more narrow tip requires less effort to navigate around strings.
