Cascamite Powdered Resin Wood Glue is a reliable, durable adhesive favored for its strong bonding properties and water resistance. Ideal for outdoor and heavy-duty applications, it creates robust joints that can withstand various weather conditions. To use, mix the powder with water to form a smooth paste, then apply to the surfaces to be joined. However, it requires precise mixing and can be less convenient than ready-to-use adhesives. Additionally, it has a limited working time, so efficient application is crucial. Despite these considerations, Cascamite remains a top choice for professional woodworkers seeking a resilient, long-lasting bond.

For my Luthiery I always used Hot Hide Glue. General woodworking I use Titebond. Cascamite is not easy to get hold of here in Australia, well, I can't seem to find anyone that stocks it that is.

I'm going to ask Ureka a list of countries they sell too xx I haven't used hot hide or pearl glues for years. I should have a go at making some 🤔

@@WallyboisWoodworking That would be great. I kinda like the idea of Cascamite, being able to mix it to suit the job at hand is very attractive. HHG is fun, bit of a fiddly bugger in the colder months but as long as you are super organised it is a great glue. And if you run out just steal one of the Doggo's rawhide chews and boil the bejezuz out of it and hey presto, Hide glue!😁 (Only have to live with the accusing stares from the Puppers)

Through chemistry and mass spectrometry one can find the formula for any compound or mixture. I'm guessing there were banned/toxic substances in the original mix, so changed the formula.

My dad was handy with wood tools and built a few nice pieces of furniture that lasted decades. He always used Cascamite to bond wood, so I was introduced to it when I was knee-high. I would use it, but can’t get my hands on it here in Vienna. I was planning to get some, last time I was in the UK, but the one, trusted, family-run supplier I knew, had shut down. I’ve never seen it in the likes of B&Q or Wickes (no surprises there). Any tips on where I could buy online for delivery to a mate in the UK? As for glues I use - whatever suits the purpose. There are so many specialised adhesives around these days, that, as long as you read the label, you can’t really go wrong. For general wood-gluing, Titebond II is my go-to, and TBH, would remain so for convenience, even if I had Cascamite on hand - no mixing, no mask. PVA, because it is so versatile, is a must-have. There are also lots of uses for epoxy, especially if you add 10-20% isopropyl alcohol to thin it enough to soak into timber. Gorilla Glue - sometimes, not often, but useful given the right job.
