When it comes to slasher movies, the Friday the 13th franchise holds a special place in the horror pantheon. The fictional serial killer Jason Voorhees has been terrorizing moviegoers since the 1980 original film and he hasn't stopped since.
The film franchise has released 11 movies since then, including the crossover movie Freddy Vs. Jason. Camp Crystal Lake, hockey masks and, hearing noises in the woods haven't been the same since. The movies have definitely left a lasting legacy in pop culture and the brand has even ventured into books, video games, and more.
There hasn’t been a movie made about the hockey mask-wearing serial killer in a few years, but don’t be surprised if Jason makes a return to the big screen very soon. Here is the truth about Friday the 13th.

I grew up with these movies. I was 10 or 11 when I saw Part 2 on VHS and didnt actually see the first installment until years later. I have watched all of them but the only one I went to see in the theater was Part V The New Blood. My favorite installment is Part IV. If I had a chance to see Part IV in the theater I probably would just for nostalgia's sake.

My favorite will always be 6. Before that point, he was arguably human, and had noticeably human limitations, even if he seemed difficult to kill. In 6, they made it abundantly clear that at least from that point, he was a bonafide supernatural zombie. Complete with decayed body, exposed bones in places, and rising from a long since buried casket.

"Will it (Freddy vs Jason) ever happen again?" Actually... yeah, it did... sort of. They started working on a sequel that features Ash from Evil Dead, and even got the movie greenlit. Everything was ready start shooting, but then it got cancelled pretty much at the last second. But instead of throwing away all their hard work, they turned the finished script into a comic book called "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash". This, in turn, had a sequel of its own, a comic book called "Freddy vs Jason vs Ash: Nightmare Warriors". Both are well worth reading for fans of the two series. Well, three series, to be precise. But with both Elm Street and Friday 13th more or less dead, and Bruce Campbell having officially retired Ash, there is sadly 0% chance of a Freddy vs Jason vs Ash movie.

Facts: 1) Despite it's fame, critics hated it. 2) There was a TV show that didn't last long and Jason wasn't in it. 3) One of the producers thought it would die after the 3rd movie. To this day I've never anticipated a film more than Friday the 13th part 3 before it came out. Maybe it was teenage nostalgia or whatever, but I even dreamed of the damn flick for nights on end before it's release. So, yeah, part 3 to this day is my favorite. Seeing the campy 3D visuals at the time was surreal in the cinema!

You should have at least mentioned that in the original film, the killer is Jason Voorhees' mother, and as far as the film's concerned, Jason is a kid who died years ago, and not an actual grown male who secretly walks around Crystal Lake killing teenagers. He was retconned into being alive in the second film. Also, Jason absolutely died in "The Final Chapter". He became a literal supernatural zombie in Part VI onward.

As a kid I stood in line for 6 hours to see Friday the 13th Part 3 I was completely disappointed part 4 was okay part 5 was the biggest disappointment in the entire lineup you did not even mention the remake which I actually liked a lot the movie went into detail about other activities that Jason Voorhees participated in as a child including archery it also gave an explanation of how he showed up no matter where people were in the woods I would like to see a second part to that movie perhaps a prequel with a few better actors

honestly i enjoyed the remake as well it wasn't a great film but it was far better than the elm street remake which just bored the fuck out of me. it was also more original than the elm street remake. which part of it was but than they had to try and copy the original as well and they failed at that. it's been years since i last saw the remake to be fair of Friday the 13th but it left ya on a cliff-hanger that i was hoping they'd by the next year do a sequel to resolve it.

I enjoyed that they still kept the same cheese you came to expect from the franchise but gave us more detail on Jason's history and skills like you said. Unfortunately they had a sequel planned but scrapped it. Then they were supposed to release a new movie last year but New Line canned it after Rings tanked at the box office. I'm not sure why they figured F13 would follow the same fate seeing as the 2 are seperate genres of horror. That film had many rumors flowing around it, the 2 largest being a found footage film like Blair Witch and the other a winter setting. But now we'll have to wait thanks to the idiotic lawsuit :(

Both 5 and 8 were as good as all the rest from paramount.. They were made to scare you, and they did.. that was the whole point.. Plots may have been stupid in both 5 and 8, but they scared you like the rest of them did... They got stupid when New Line took over and even the reboot is crap.. Nothing original to it at all, super fast killings with no scary music and very little light to see anything..

My favourites are 4, 6 and 7..he looked so amazing in part 7. The best visual for Jason in all the classic movies.. I really liked the re boot to.. I though it was well done and Derek Mears was by far the best Jason..

They started to suck when New Line took over.. The reboot was probably the worst.. I mean people going out into the woods looking for pot plants, bro and dude this and that.. No scary music at all, but instead music and sound that doesn't stand out from anything else.. Killings happened so aggressively and fast that you can't even register what even happened, on top of poor lighting and effects makes it even more difficult to see.. To me, the franchise ended at part 8..

All the crazy stuff his mom did before the first movie and the whole thing with Jason after that I think a prequel be the way to go especially if you're trying to remake it again or another sequel with Kane Hodder is Jason again and make it better this time around

Remember watching part 5 as a kid and being confused/disappointed that Jason wasn't actually in the movie. Still a good movie though. Their all great.
