Good information from both you and some of the comments made here. Its great technology WHEN IT WORKS. We live in the 21st century and something as simple as getting or making a phone call can be almost impossible.
I have been using a Wilson Cellular Booster for over ten years. My newer one is like the rest, Wilson wrote the book on increasing Cellular signal gain. My booster works well from anywhere in my Explorer and also works well within a few hundred feet from the vehicle, outside of the vehicle. Trick is getting the right Antennas.. Thanks
Agree wholeheartedly. I put Wilson cellular boosters in our company field trucks and a few cars around 2010-2012. The difference in performance was very noticeable. Driving through the Rockies for a business trip, I left the booster off during the trip out. I found many places- often valleys - where I had poor or no signal. On the return trip I turned the booster on and found strong signals everywhere, even in the valleys where I'd previously had no or weak signals. We've had similar results working in rural locations throughout Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming and New Mexico.
For the record, Wilson Electronics bought out zBoost (a competitor) years ago, and owns the brands: Wilson Pro, zBoost, and (you guessed it) weBoost. When installed correctly and matched with an appropriate antenna, the higher end/industrial Wilson stuff (amp: $500-$800+, ext.ant: $200+) all works fairly well, and quite consistently. But in my experience, the lower end weBoost/Wilson products? … well … they work about as well as you’d expect them to work if they said “D-Link” or “LinkSys” or “Belkin” on them instead of “weBoost” 😎
@@razvanafloarei6256 They help with making mobile data (eg. LTE) connections more stable but you’re not necessarily going to see more speed or faster data transfers. If you play first-person shooters on your phone, you can expect better latency (in general) but if you’re uploading 4K video to RU-vid, a booster antenna isn’t going to cut much off of your nap time. Of course… “Your mileage may vary.” 😕
My neighbor has one, confirmed by going outside and getting the symbol above my bars, and suspiciously since then my signal is completely gone inside. Used to be perfectly fine, some small issues every once in a while, but now I have absolutely NO signal inside. I'm currently standing outside getting eaten by mosquitoes just to be able to use my phone. Never had to do that, I USED TO BE ABLE TO PLAY GAMES ONLINE ON MY XBOX ONE, IN MY ROOM, USING MY HOTSPOT. CANT EVEN GET TEXTS ANYWHERE IN MY HOUSE NOW. RIGHT after my neighbor gets a signal booster. I'm livid. 🤬
I have the same problem and always thought it had something to do with it. There antenna is right at the edge of there land aiming right for me. I get nothing in my garage yard and most of my house.
I want something portable I can take to work. What would be acceptable is something that gets cellular and then transmits wi-fi to my phone or just anything portable that works. I really want it mainly for data.
Had to install one of these on a large rural home to make it more marketable to sell. $1200 for the antennas, proprietary cables, splitters, and other parts, for almost no improvement. I'm in the wrong business...
Laughing... Very good. You are a man (or two!) of many talents! 🐰❤️ (And never judge a guy by the size of his tape measure - as long as the inches are there... 🤭📏)
You have all my thumbs. I've been looking for quite a long time if it's worth installing signal booster on my grandparents house, since the walls are twice as thick as regular walls. There are spots in the house with reception, but seems like for such a small coverage by the internal antenna is not worth it.
*WOW* !!!! *Cool to see a NEW kind of video* !!! *I had a 3G Micro Cell Booster when I owned my townhouse* !!!! *The GREAT news is I don't need a booster where I now live* !!! #HandyAndy #TheHandyman
Is there one that would work over about 1/4 mile? My house is down in a valley with no cell signal, but I can go up a hill a few hundred yards away, within sight of the house, and get a signal. If I could set something up on the hill and point it this way that would be fantastic.
Get a cellular service that works over WiFi and you will be much better off. If you can only get internet over cellular than grab the cellular at the top of the hill, convert it to WiFi internet then use a directional 2.4ghz antenna to get the WiFi to your house.
Money spent is relative. In your case it is just the cost of doing business. You must look at it in terms of the value of the service it provides. A homeowner may not see the value unless it is imperative for work or for loved ones to have consistent contact via mobile phone service. Most communication antennas are directional that carry good signal. FM broadcast line of sight. AM does not. Over-the-Air TV antenna-line-of-sight.
Can’t get a proper “signal” here in the lovely metro NY\ LI area. Towers everywhere, charging a fortune. Bleh. Monster truck to go with your MASSIVE renos. Andy will be great for your highlight reel 👍🏼.
Similar experience with a different brand at a cabin. You had to be within 4-6'. I liked the video, good content. I'd have expected more out of that substantially more massive antennae though.
Funny how fragile it appears, looks like harsh weather could mess it up quickly. But I know of a few people who use them & they're very happy with the way they work. Eventually cell phone mfrs may find a way to install booster receivers directly into their products. See that coming.
what make and model was your booster? looking for one for my parents and want to make sure I get a reliable one. needs an outdoor antenna like yours has
Hey bro, cool video ! I was thinking to go to the country side, at my parents, to work from home there, because of this corona virus thing. In that region the signal is kind of low 1-2 bars, and i was thinking to use my mobile as hotspot for my laptop. Do you think this would be a good solution since i need only data connection ? And also how do i identify what device i can buy to be compatible with my phone carrier (I live in Europe). Thanks !
Close, but no cigar. The version You bought is for single use. Most weboost allow for multi-user amplification, and at varying distances, some for up thousands of square feet and or the entire inside of Any vehicle.
So, for the one in your truck, you have to touch your phone to the interior antenna and you get 4G, but do you STILL have to drive to a high peak as well???
Hey man can you please explain what will this do if I put this in my house while the signal is 800 yards away from my house and a very weak signal at that? well this work at all? Or will I have to run a cable to 800 yards away and set it up there?
Good video. It was still on task with a job and being on a job sight. However, you might want to look around next time.. there is this weird dude in the background drinking your brewski!
I've got a new phone and live in a big city everyone else has full bar's and no busters or antennas and they can call or get on the internet. I'm lucky if I have one bar if I stand one foot I might be able to get a call or if the wind is blowing might be able to get on the internet ??? And I haven't even thrown this phone on the ground or up against the wall yet but I'm not far from it though!!!
Hey Handyman. I got a question, I have been in the Handyman business now for 3 years. The issue I have is there is a lack of coustomers here where I live. So do I need to contact property managment companys. To get more work? I kinda look ro you for advise and so far your videos have never let me down. Please I need some help or I am going to have to back to a 9-5 job that I know I will hate. Thanks for the help
Did you see my last video on My other youtube channel. Its all about researching your area to see what your earning potential is. I talk about the money people have to spend, The local competition and demand for a specific service.
@@TheHandyman1 Yes I saw that one and it opend my eyes. On Monday I am going to contact some property managment companies and a few real estate companies here and get my foot on the door so to speak. One step at a time right?
In your vehicle, mount a jet pack hot spot on the cradle. Then use that wifi signal to connect to the internet. I have mine mounted in my trunk, then the wifi just comes to all the phones in the car.
Question, if you took an adjusted outside TV antenna, and connected it to a cable/wifi modem, would it carry cell signal, and boost it through the cable modem, or is that only for datatransfer?
you need a unit that's signal specific..router or wifi device won't pickup band 2-66. wifi uses something similar to a cordless house phone 900mhz etc.
I’ve got “Redacted” Internet(my only option. Remember when ISPs were like Starbucks; seemed liked there was one on every corner......not anymore) & I pay for 1GB down/up.....which is roughly $250/month. What I get......10.9/8.2, down/up respectively. I’d say that’s sad, very sad.....but I know ppl/businesses that have it worse. I so do miss competition in the ISP realm. But hey, 5G is our answer & savior....Right😏 Cheers
On my 18th year working for AT&T. If you are in a residential area just enable Wi-Fi calling on your phone. We don't even sell the repeaters anymore since you can just hand the call off to your router. None of these "boosters" are going to be great because the FCC regulates the signal output and there are strict guidelines they have to follow as to not interfere with other devices and emergency services. There is a reason the carriers pay millions of $$ to carry specific channels in each market.
I have my WIFI calling turned on as " prefered wifi calling." Do I need to turn anything else off? Cause even with my wifi calling, my cell signal drops many tines. When I say many times, that means,90% of the time my calls drop, or we can't hear each other for a while in almost all the time. Please help.
I tried this booster 6 years ago in my house. My signal got little better. Now I use the wifi calling from my home modem, occasionally signal is great, but mostly even the wifi calling is not working properly. When I use wifi calling, do I need to switch anything else off? Am I missing to do something when using wifi calling?
What you need to do is open up the smartphone, don't break it, wirer the cellular antenna to the ground on the speaker jacket, sorry apple sheep . Now connect a computer speaker and play some music and make sure it's max volume preferably 3am
ATT just informed me they will no longer register non-ATT boosters. If you need a booster, you MUST use their booster through a landline internet connection or run the risk of jail time and fines.
Maybe not in ur daily life. How would shoddy cell signal in one's house not affect daily life. Especially in North Las Vegas 1.5 miles, if that, from tower and ur phone don't ring downstairs. And u gotta go upstairs or outside to call out.
