Thank you so much for this video. I am new to Wordpress and have spent many hours trying to get the content looking good on all devices. Ended up with a complete mess and was very frustrated. Your video explains it in a way that I understand. I will definitely be watching more of your videos. Your presentation style is perfect for me and I'm so glad I found your channel.

Thanks. You are a great instructor. I am a dim student and have been told time and time again about em and rem and I'm all OK. Never had the necessity explained and explained again, and explained one more time, which dim students like me need drilling into their brains. It's great. So, much so that I need to convert it to web design. As I said I am dim so I am still hard coding. I know WordPress and love it, but haven't gotten my head wrapped around Guttenberg and blocks. You won't believe the quantum leap in understanding of how to use WordPress I got from you today. I love WordPress but have avoided it because I don't get Guttenberg. Thank you for the enlightenment.

I kind of love you... :D Jokes aside, I've never seen such a greatly structured explanation in a tutorial video. And you zoom in on the practically important information which is unbelievable. Great, great work! If you ever make a paid course I'm going to be first in line!

This is a fantastic tip. Thank you. But should rem be used for leading (line height) as well?
@JackintheNet
@JackintheNet Год назад
Thanks for watching. Good question. Yes you can as it will also allow it to be more responsive than using pixels for line height. However it may create bigger gaps with line height if people have large font sizing in their browser settings. That would be a rarity however and for the majority of site visitors it would provide better results using rem.

please in the future make some tutorials or ways of making a bilingual user-friendly website. I have been looking for such information but failed to find it. I have a project which I need for two languages. but I am confused about how to do it, whether to develop separate pages for each language type ( LAnguage 1 version) and ( Language 2 ) Version. But defeetily it would be more resource-consuming, or to go with some 3rd party plugins or "Google Translator" which sometimes misses things.

I don’t see the color and font option in my beaver builder. Any tips?
@JackintheNet
@JackintheNet Год назад
Hi. I’ve never used beaver builder and don’t recommend page builders, just the Gutenberg editor now. However, looking at their docs this link might help answer your question, they reference the functionality there: docs.wpbeaverbuilder.com/beaver-builder/styles/typography/

I'm realtively new to wordpress how does this relate to fluid typography.The articles I read reference css and json files.
@JackintheNet
@JackintheNet Год назад
Hello. Rem, em etc are CSS units. Gutenberg introduced support for fluid typography in version 13.8. Using the clamp function can make fonts fluid in terms of resizing for viewport size in blocks. This is a different branch of this subject and one that I will cover in a later video. However if you are new to WordPress I would recommend not changing code if it’s on a live site. You would be better of using the inbuilt customiser

just a question if you have time - in one of your previous videos I believe you suggested using % for padding / margin - in this video you are using rem / em - have your thoughts changed or was it just to keep this video consistent and not introduce new elements? what would be best practice ? thanks
@JackintheNet
@JackintheNet Год назад
Hi. Good question. I’ve showed em & rem and it was the subject of this video and because not all themes and page builders give % / vh / vw as options for padding and margins. Em will scale to the size of the parent element which makes it useful for padding but not for beginners tbh as if you don’t understand the dom tree and the elements your using then it can act unexpectedly. There’s arguments against it, like most things, but I like using % for a more consistent finish, or rem if you don’t have the option
