4:32 that’s because in our culture, love is secret. It’s not something you show. It’s like that with most Pacific Islander cultures. When there’s a party and 2 people that like each other wanna talk, they disappear. And when they come back, they act like they don’t know each other lol.

Thank you for being fair in your descriptions of our islands. I am a mix Micronesian (Palauan and Pohnpei) and very proud of my origin. I was born in Palau then raised in Pohnpei and Saipan. I love all our cultures and our diversity. We do have all kinds of delicious food and unique recipes. About Pohnpei, you described Mahr which we ferment to get a certain dexter and smell, just like some cheeses especially Blue Cheese 🤢Lol Whoever made you try mahr did not have you try the sweet version. I myself can not stand it if it was not done correctly. About animals in Pohnpei, we have lots of Exotic birds like our National bird the red Parrot which is not found anywhere else in the world and if you have gone into certain part of our jungles you will find other interesting animals besides spiders 😇. Thanks again for describing some of my most favorite food from Pohnpei. God Bless

Love you Micronesia. Just saw this video today. Been to Yap, Pohnpei, Chuuk, Guam. Also Palau, Saipan, Rota. Absolutely loved it there. Food is delicious and meet some of the most gentlest and kindest people. I have a very large map of all of Micronesia on my office wall. The young man above shares a good impression and insight on my experiences as well. Beautiful people and culture. And one more thing, when I arrived in Yap in the airport I was welcomed with a flower lei. I dried and kept the lei.

I lived on the island of Moen in 1986-1987 as a 3rd-4th grader. I loved every second of it. Green mangos dipped in salt and soy souce was the jam. Kook aid packets mixed with salt. Super weird but makes my mouth water to this day. I’ll never forget the framers framing up houses hammering in a beat. Good times!

In the 70s when I was there, many people walked around hand in hand. One day I saw 2 teenage boys hand in hand. I asked about them, whether it was a romantic thing. The answer was no. They were best friends and had been since they were little. Nobody thought anything about it. It was normal. I'd like to add that it was also normal in my grandmother's generation. and when I was a kid in the 50's it was also common in Hawaii. I used to walk in the evening down Waikiki arm-in-arm with my grandmother. We also used to comb each other's hair, like I saw in Pohnpei as well. Things changed for the worse.

You brought back old memories! I lived on Pohnpei for 2 years 49 years ago. It's easy to remember the years because my son was born there 49 years ago last month. Back then, there were no paved roads. You didn't mention that delicious drink called sacau (just kidding). There are also African snails which only come out at night, so maybe you didn't see them. The Japanese brought them there because they loved to eat snails. Did you see the big eels in the river? We also lived for 4 years in the Marshall Islands. At that time, the older folks had gone to school while the Japanese were in control and schools were in Japanese. So those who had gone to school before l945 spoke Japanese, and those born after that year were educated in English.

I don't know when this guy was there, but i was in Yap in 2016 and 2017 because I was dating a Yapese man, and the women did not go topless. We went all over the island and saw/met many people and the only time I saw anyone dressing traditionally (not wearing Goodwill shirts like 'hotdogs, hotdogs, hotdogs!' etc) was the occasional really old person. Regardless, much respect to all islanders. It was an honor to be able to visit.

There are literally islands SINKING ppl evacuated from them and commercial plains or boats cannot go to them unless you have a high level security pass. So go there and look yourself

@@sinahaase9923 - Thanks for adding to this thread and please help document your comment. Name the islands that are sinking, which people were evacuated and when, and to whom would I apply for a security pass so that I could visit and see for myself.

Thank you sir. Well said and hats off to you by mentioning the dog. We love dogs for food back home. I cringed when you mention it.

I'm native American and I have eaten dog. It is delicious and it creeps me out that I enjoyed it.
