I am a 4th degree BJJ black belt. I competed in ADCC 2015 Sao Paulo. I rolled with Rickson in 2014 when he was teaching at Krons school in LA. The man is incredible. No fancy movements, just perfect weight distribution, perfect timing, perfect efficiency.

I always cant stand when people who don't know what Rickson did to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu are disrespecting his legacy. My professor is one of the few who is a Black Belt under Rickson, and taught Kron when he was in kids classes. We had a few seminars with Rickson, he truly is a legend. His mindset, his physicality, his philosophy, his skills, are unmatched. You have no idea how BASIC some things he will teach will change your whole game, when most people would overlook this. I've seen Black Belts' eye go wide open, realizing the tiniest of detail that makes a huge difference that most people would overlook. Invisible Jiu-jitsu at this highest level. Blessed to be a Black Belt under them and being part of this lineage

I shouldn’t reply for someone I don’t know….but I think this individual alludes to all those minor details that Rickson possesses….the way Rickson can teach a 3rd Degree Blackbelt details on a trap roll that they had no idea they didn’t understand…. simply amazing. Like learning a cross collar choke detail from Rorion…it’s just other worldly understanding, I can only imagine what training with Rickson regularly would be like…what an opportunity

Mr.Rickson is a gentleman, scholar, and warrior. Through my nephew who is in law enforcement and a professional boxer received his black belt from Rickson in the early 80;s, I was introduced to him. I had responded to the 25k Gracie challenge at the Torrance office and spoke with Rorion in June of 1993 prior to the first UFC. Because I refused to allow Art Davie, owner of the UFC at that time to attend our fight for free, he got pissed at me and told me he would never allow me fight in the UFC as long as he was the owner.and he never did. Mr. Rickson responded with a call to my home and we spoke. I very much enjoyed our discussion as it was very apparent I was conversing with a powerfully confident fighter which I could discern from his voice and I knew we would have a great private fight at a private location ( it was illegal to fight at that time in Cali) which would be attended and witnessed by only my nephew who would hold 50k prize money. Due to Mr. Rickson's schedule to fight in Japan we were unable to reschedule and meet for a private fight and Mr. Rickson was very gracious and professional. God bless him.

I was fortunate to have a private lesson with Royce Gracie at the Torrance academy in the 80s. I am so grateful that I got to spend two weeks training and hanging with Rickson in the early 90s at various locations in Southern California and spent time at his house. It was an experience I will never forget. At the time Gracie Jiu-jitsu was almost non-existent on the east coast where I live. Rickson actually asked me if I could come and stay in So Cal to train with him. Unfortunately, it was not possible at the time but I have followed his journey ever since. I was really looking forward to watching this interview. Sadly, I was disappointed with Chris's unnecessary and constant F bombs and other vulgarities. I imagine he is a nice guy, but it all came across like a tiresome schtick. Too bad.

Hi Joe! Thanks for taking the time to give the podcast a shot and hear his insights. I can't apologize for him, nor do I think he would if given the opportunity :). That's incredible you got to spend time with Rickson and Royce during a formative time in Jiu Jitsu's US growth. I found it exciting to read Richard Bresler's book where he reflects on this special time. I hope to one day train, if for nothing other than the lore, with a notable Gracie and hear their perspectives on a sport much evolved. I hope you come back for another episode in the future. Thank You.

@@MaynIdeaThank you! I appreciate the reply. I just watched a longer interview you did with Chris from about a year ago. I do appreciate his insights and knowledge and certainly wouldn't expect him to care what I thought about the constant cursing. :) It's just that, my young son has started training recently, and many times, when watching matches, training videos, or other BJJ content with him, the cursing and arrogant attitudes of many, young and old, is a real let down. I find myself discussing with him not only the training content but also why he doesn't need to talk or behave the way they do. I want him to have people he can look up to and emulate not only in Jiu-Jitsu, but in life in general. I hope you do get to train with one or more of the pioneers. I really am grateful that I got to spend time with Rickson. He was the greatest teacher I have ever experienced and knew my strong points and my weaknesses in the first minutes of our opening roll. We trained at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club, at an older Asian man's house, and at the famous "Pico Academy" (West LA Karate), where he fought Yoji Anjo, shortly after my time there with him. I was even at his house with his family. I remember my brother and I helped him and Royce move a large carpet and some other stuff around while we were there, talked about Rio, Gracie history, his family, his matches, street fights he had, and other things. One thing happened that I will never forget. During one of our training sessions, I asked Rickson for advice for continued training back home on the east coast. He looked at me for a minute and said, "Do you think you could come to stay in LA? Because I will train you...and when you are ready...I will go to the woods." I just looked at him as he was nodding, knowing that I was in the process of opening a business and realizing that I couldn't. To this day I wish I could have and would have said yes. Who knows what could have been? I am sad about his medical diagnosis and pray for him and his family through his Parkinson's battle. Thankfully, there are some, including Chris, who can hopefully pass on the knowledge that he is imparting to them. Sorry for the long comment.

🚨🚨🚨It is never too late to retract and recognize that the only truth is: ONLY JESUS SAVES! (While there is life, there is hope!) It is time to open your eyes and face reality. God does not share His glory with anyone! The author of the phrase "only jiu-jitsu saves" is going through serious health problems. May GOD bless him! It is sad to see the sycophants around him insisting that this paraphrase is irrelevant, as if they were above the spiritual consequences that it entails. You do not mess with GOD! in what type of rule set? Respectfully, I disagree. Peak Rickson's ability is easy to forget. What he did, against the opponents he did it against, at, the time he did is truly remarkable.
