Not to mention they don't let you create expansion teams this year in mygm, as someone who remakes the Buffalo Braves every year I am totally irritated with the mode
True. such a waste of time, I wish they made some automatic settings for chat and other stuff too. Complicated mode. Even if you won titles, staff trust still goes down. It's really annoying. It becomes more stressful than enjoying..
I fw 2k19 my gm tough, I ran an expansion team and the storyline kept me intrigued. The biggest flaw in this year’s game mode is that they took out the ability to play the freaking games... I started a season last night and immediately hopped off after I found no way to play. The 2k team really needs to get right man.
Every person Ik usually plays 2k for my career and I’ve always been the one who loved my gm more than anything else and the real reason why I always got the new 2k and 2k20 just ruined it me and made me wish I didn’t buy it.
With the new patch you can adjust the settings.. still not able to put in injury rosters... but you are able to upload custom roster.. the injuries just won't show.. smh.. almost
Great video I was never into the myGM aspect of the game Id play it for first couple of hours and go to myleague. If myleague were to have some type of coaching interaction like mygm I think id enjoy that more. Also can we just call out how lazy 2k has been with the coaching names and models? Kuba gooding and hes a chubby Asian and we all know some of the developers like mike wang are face scanned as coaches. Id like to see a more diverse coaching system. Like why cant we promote our assistant coach without firing them first?
Why do they have to make GM mode so complicated. Just let you run your own simulation, if you want the extra stuff have an option to turn it on or off like EA games. Why make a game restrictive?
One think about this I will never forget: I first chose the Knicks because I thought it would be a fun MyGM rebuild. However, we’re coming up to the contract extension deadline and Elfrid Payton really wants us to extend 72 overall Maurice Harkless. I say doubtful. He says *”MAURICE HARKLESS is the key to the franchise.”* After the deadline, Payton loses all trust with me and meets me to talk about it. I say something like “I let him walk because he was asking for too much money.” He replies: *”Really? You think we can just pick up another MAURICE HARKLESS out of nowhere? You’re crazy.”* Wtf is this game mode.
Is there a way to cancel some of these practices? The chicag schedules practices like everyday and my guys go in loosing streaks because they're tired.
Don´t understand why in MyGM I can´t simple watch each game in 3D Mode without being obligated to play as a player. If we act as a GM, why in the world we also play? It doesn´t make sense. NBA2k21 will still force us to be a player also in MyGM?
You can turn the leader board scoring off by pushing square on ps4 when you select my gm. Then you can have the option to change your settings to your liking.
I understand why they locked the quarter length from a competitive aspect because of the leaderboard system. I dont agree with that decision but I understand why it was made. But if you are going to lock us at 6minute quarters why wouldn't the stats adjust for 12 minute quarters. Because stats dont adjust we literally get punished for playing games since our players are getting cheated out of stats. Like if I want to play every single game to make one of my players mvp I should be able to do that. Second once I leveled up my gm a little bit I had more activity points than I knew what to do with so why have them, either they need to force us to make tough choices on what to do or dont have them at all. I understand it isnt realistic tirade your entire roster in a day. But NBA live back in the day solved that in their franchise mode. For those who dont remember it used to take a few days for a team to respond to your trade offer, that isnt perfect but it was better than this. Other then that I totally agree with all of your points. I played this game mode for like a week got sick of how tedious all the chit chatting was and went back to my league.
You make a good point about the quarter length issue, and everything else you said is 100% right. After the Miami series, I will be solely playing MyLeague!
I haven't played it in 2k20 -- but the MyGM mode in 2k19 is literally the worst game experience I've had. If you want to do a story mode -- EA's "Longshot" was 1000% better. It's was basically 10 minutes straight of mashing the next button through abysmal dialogue to get to make one roster move. Then you get to slog through 15m more of dialouge. I'm a veteran of old RPGs I'm no stranger miles of text -- but literally, the experience was so drab I wanted to gouge my eyes out. I guess MyLeague is for me.
i think this is the worse 2k game they made..you guys think they getting the bad reviews we giving em? they should..also yall think its best to stick wit 2k19 vs buying 2k20?
This video is spot on but I kinda like MyGM this year as someone who has played MyGM every year since Dreamcast. But the cons you stated are also very true.
I wish I could go back to play 2k18. My GM froze and I can’t advance farther in the schedule of MYGM in 2k18. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this. It won’t let me get past the next date (this is a problem in 2k18)

I liked playing MyGm with my brother but this year we can't do that bc the game doesn't allow playing with two controllers... I hope they fix this game mode
Idk why you can’t play games. It’s actually entertaining today not sure how much patching went into it but I really dig it. It’s in depth into scouting and financing along with skill building. I wish you’d go back and see if it’s worth another shot. Try clicking the games on the action point day because it does cost an action point to play. Also my first gm experience
I built a roster made with Jayson Tatum, DeAngelo Russel, Khris Middleton, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jaylen Brown which we’re all 85 and above and yet we go 2-6 in the first 8 games
I agree with you. The chitchat could have been just you click and improve the mood, not to speak with them, about the same things, thousands of times and break the X button... Agree on the 6 minutes per quarter, why not 4 or 12? I have to be able to change it, the name is MYGM, not RandomGM... :-D
My gm is HORRIBLE this year I've been playing 2k since 2k6 and this is the worst my gm I've seen they need to go back to how it wad before. I'm still playing nba 2k19 my gm mode because 2k20 is that bad
I play 12 min quarters change in settings. I love gm over my league. I don't get how to raise sponsor lever went from 68 to 24 and I have players staff and sponsors excellent
It’s as if they took all the interesting parts of MyGM 1 and removed them with go-talk-to-everybody-in-the-building-a-million-times-a-day simulator. Like seriously, there’s nothing MyGM has to offer that MyLeague isn’t better at. Why even release the mode at all if there’s no storyline???

I got fired from the OKC Thunder and I was the #1 gm and had a 20-9 record, good for 4th in the league. Out of nowhere mid Jan I was fired. Granted my trust with the governor was nil but he kept giving me 5 game win streak and my team would lose the very next game, boom, -13 trust. I had a great team. They ended up finishing the season 35-47. So that made me laugh
To me its the difference between MyGM and MyLeague. Yes, they weren't exactly riveting storylines, but if 2k could actually come up with a decent story it would really upgrade the game mode.
2k is famous for having unnecessary and annoying cutscenes I think there’s more cutscenes than actual game time. A ton of loading screens. I wasn’t happy with mygm this year. I felt like I wasn’t even the gm,how ironic.
Also I can’t have the minutes of my players saved because the coach settings are locked what kind of bullshit. I don’t have time to play every game and have the stats look realistic
Instant gratification or modernly know as "ZOMBIE" mode is what is not appreciated from a great story line alongside with a great game. it is the mickey mouse quality of life we live today, so sad.
I literally had the best record in the league as the gm for the Boston Celtics I was talking to my players for half the season then once I failed a goal I got kicked from my role. It should be based more of the play of the team an market an business. Moral should have no effect with if your fired. You should be able to do charity events with your team to boost chemistry or moral or team dinners
This new 2k compared to previous 2k where you had more control over your team I rather stick with that 2k even if the roster was outdated i wouldn't care just make mygm mode fun again
just put the concept and gameplay of the my gm from 2k16 and combine it with the great things added like the coaches description and style of play and system proficiency, the changing of positions even at the roster menu which even shows the compatibility of the player with said position, the draft picks complexity that even indicates protected or not protected. We dont need this bullshit action points man, and all that chitchat crap that ruins your X button and also the experience points that doesnt open up options such as trade finder until you level up. 2k20 deserves the bad reviews.
This video still applies in 2k22🙄. You nailed every single point on the head. Only thing that’s bette is the setting for more Action Points. Everything else is still trash
The storyline was heavily criticised last 2K, blame the player base not 2K on that. People asked them to focus on the gameplay and other features and they did. I enjoy the action points, I think they could go more in depth and I do like the idea of being controlled because I like to play MyGM slowly and make it hard for myself. I think there should be an option to turn it off so you can go crazy on trades and everything else. The chatting system is a pain in the ass, but, I like the idea of having to keep up relationships. Finally added a reason to keep up relationships. I agree with the simming being slow. Because of leaderboards the time is capped at 6, I don’t like that I’d love to have an offline mode where you can play 12. 2K is building to something, the game mode did need an overhaul, I feel like this has a better potential than what the last model did. Obviously there will be growing pains, but that’s exactly how it was with career mode and now people buy it just for that. Overall I see your frustration as a creator though. The game has been slowed down and it does make it harder to create great content, as a casual gamer I just like the fact it’s harder and takes more time (outside of chatting 400000 times to everyone 😂).
I completely understand everything you are saying, everybody wants MyGM to fit their idea of what it should be. This was just me venting about my gripes.
Mr. Bird Absolutely man, I don’t expect you to have the same opinion as me at all especially as a creator. When you’re trying to be creative and squeeze something out of a mode that’s just not quite there for great content it would be extremely hard.
They should give us an option to disable attrition, also add an option which allows you to skip awful cutscenes and make the chit chat a simple 1 button press with you getting the benefits of that chit chat. Also how do you feel about the unranked version?
I absolutely hate it. I liked my gm last year cause it gave you everything my league did but gave you certain restrictions in the right places to make it feel like you where an actual gm and not a god who could just change anything you wanted. But they went overkill with it in this year. You can’t even change positions or accessories. Or call plays in a game.
And I actually thought about picking up 2k20... I’ll stick to 19 now. I only play mygm mode and that there’s no custom draft classes would ruin the experience for me. Appreciate the content.
