Oh, as a former VR employee, I can promise you, Vail’s legal team was waiting with claws extended for a Utah ski resort to make one mistake. And Park City fell asleep just long enough for Vail to pounce. Remember, this was in 2011, when Vail stock (MTN) was $14.00 a share, and they only owned about 20 resorts. They had piles of cash, excellent credit, and overhead (wages) were low. This was the opportunity they had been waiting for.

So I finally bought an Epic pass - in order to access PC an other resorts at 50% off. My frustration is how corporate this has all become. My pass was sent to a wrong address - and I had to talk with a CALL CENTER in India to resolve the issue. So disgusting. American capitalism and greed is so strong - Vail Corp will not even hire American employees to resolve customer service issues.

Same thing happened with traditional on-mountain employees. Instead of paying American workers a liveable wage, they ship in workers from peru, argentina, and chile to come work the mountains and live 5-6 deep in 2 bedroom apartments. Then they only stay 3 months, so you only get 3 months of help and then the rest of the season you're completely understaffed.

Awesome video telling this story. Yes it has ruined the parks that used to be so awesome. Also they closed the bike park on canyons side. They are just focused on revenue not the actual heart of the sport. Park city has so much potential to become a whistler esk bike park and snowboard park. They could be putting in tons of mtn bike terrain and flow trails like deer valley and more snowboard ski parks on different runs. Hopefully we can use all this money to make it a great place to ride everyday not just make a quick buck. Also that’s me doing back 270 on the rail thanks for putting me in ha!

Vail is a vampire that sucks the soul out of every mountain they buy, they just turn it into another clog in the machine. They bought out my home resort a few years ago and completely ruined it, got rid of 90% of the park, never has all the trails open, fired the best people and managed to change the entire culture it just feels like going to chain store now completely soulless. the epic pass is cool and all but it’s not worth losing the character and soul of the mountain.

I grew up riding both the old “Canyons” resort and the old “Park City Mountain Resort.” Some of my favorite runs have to be the highest ones (blacks) at the top of PCMR, and I love cruising the super long wide open runs (blues) at the Canyon. Since it was all purchased & combined by Vail, the Epic pass has been cool (so I could ride in Colorado too) and I like the connection between the two resort areas as well, BUT Vail has killed the incredible park scene that PCMR once had. Sure there are still some park stuff at PCMR, but it is nothing as good as what it used ti be… and I heard that Vail no longer is going to be hosting half pipe contests at their resorts to watch. They are slowly killing the park scene over the years which is unfortunate.
@ShredSchool1

Park city used to have night skiing before Vail took over and the parks got more attention. Having had passes both before and after I can tell you the capital improvements that vail made are real improvements. It’s ran much better but sadly we lost the night skiing. The park scene used to be as much at park city as at Brighton. Woodward has most of it now because it’s their main focus. End of the day it’s all gravy of you like to ride though. Lots of options and plenty to go around. Hopefully resorts can expand and grow a little to keep up with Utah’s population increase that will likely never stop.

I used to work for Beaver Creek as a product sales manager in 2019. Everyday was miserable as we were considerably understaffed, underpayed, and under appreciated, and we were supposedly one of the good resorts. Vail resorts has extremely high employee turnover, so we were always having to retrain new people, which was highly inefficient, and meant guests often had mistakes and lines would take a very long time. This meant guests were always in an absolute rage against us which made coming to work stressful. Management would always boast about how much $ they spent to open a new lift or start a new app, meanwhile we got basically minimum wage even as managers. That was BEFORE the pandemic. I can't even imagine how bad it must be now as an employee there. Thank god I left.

If you're a skier, Alta is a must-visit, with the qualification is that much of their best expert terrain involves significant traverses to get to it. Also, if your are a boarder, Alta does not and never will allow boarders on their lifts (they technically cannot prevent you from riding there, but without lifts it's forbiddingly infeasible and so vanishingly few try). However, with Snowbird next door offering an astounding amount of rad terrain, including two enormous bowls (actually a third if you count the cirque as a bowl) right off the top of the tram - no need to get upset that you can't experience Alta.

I worked at The Canyons(and before the Talisker rebrand of just "Canyons") before the merge and the Lady that "forgot" to renew the lease had to of been paid. It was one day late to be exact. Talisker originally sued them and dropped the lawsuit in the most petty way possible... Dropped the papers from a helicopter with some sand bags attached to it on Park City Resorts property. Vail took over the lawsuit after they bought out Talisker who has a bigger boss to answer to named Jack Bitzitzer(the guy is a billionaire out of Toronto that was blowing through money and charging it to the company card and had to make his money back on his investment, hence the 25 million a year) about a year or two later. Rob Katz was a wallstreet mogul before moving into the ski industry and knew how much park city would make him. There is no way it was an accident. You think they would screw up a deal that good on accident? Lets not forget Vail tried to patent the name Park City and the locals flipped out and dropped the application for now. Vail is the amazon of ski industry. That place still has a piece of my heart but it's a corporate style of different now. The whole state is moving towards the corporate style that is inevitable but Vail is the worst.

When I lived in Utah, I'd ski Park city alot. Loved it there. This was back in the 80's and 90's. I remember the first time I skied Jupiter Bowl. From the top, I knew I was gonna die. But I made it down eventually in one piece. LOL But where I skied the most, was Brighton. I'd park my car at the bottom of the canyon, ans take the bus up to Brighton. It was a mostly local place to ski, and locals had cheaper ski passes. It was sort of a secret about the great prices. Alta was another local secret as well. Heck, I can remember when a Park City day pass cost only $20!

I moved to Park City to be a ski bum in 1983. My first season pass cost $249. Another $50 got me a locker in a nice locker room and a reserved underground parking spot. These days lunch for two will set you back more than that. My first season I paid $70 a month to rent a place just a short walk down Dog Shit Trail to Main Street. Brown bagging was legal, so drinking was cheap. On Tuesdays Solitude would have $5 tickets. Three or four of us would ski to Brighton from the backside of Park City. One guy would drive to Solitude so we'd have a ride home. Obviously, we took turns driving. It was a hoot. In the 80s I'm pretty sure Park City was the best ski bum town in the galaxy. Dirt cheap, no one around, and epic powder days. I was lucky to be there.

Skied the area, love Park City (McConkey's), made a small attempt to ski The Canyon's area, the trip was going to take too long, prefer Deer Valley over all of them, not a fan of snowboarders, I got slammed by one at JH, never stopped, messed up my five day ski vacations. Most boarders look like they are out of control and in general have not been educated on basic rules.
@desiraemuhlestein1763
@desiraemuhlestein1763 2 года назад
Was it them that ran into you or you turning into them? Unless someone is a beginner and just learning how to ski or snowboard (which in my opinion is completely excusable, no one is born an expert), most are in complete control (snowboarders just happen to be younger and a little more ballsy than most skiers). One person running into you doesn't make them all bad. As a snowboarder, I have to be more cautious of skiers because they don't have the ability to look around them since they're fixed facing forward and even if there is a bump in caused by them, I still get blamed, called names and patronized for existing in the same space. I see snowboarders being a lot more careful around other people for that reason, we're always looking around and looking for the safest path while trying to maintain our speed. If we're coming up on a flat area, we have to go faster to make it through without stopping or catching an edge. The biggest problem I see is when a snowboarder tries to pass a skier to maintain that speed and the skier blindly turns right in front of them or flat out stops in the middle of the run to converse with their group. Or even at the base when everyone is stopping to get on the lift and skiers just stop wherever they're at in the middle of the run, instead of getting off to the side, right in front of someone else and turn around and blame the boarder for running over their skis. Like I'm sorry I have to take up twice as much space to panic stop to avoid hitting you 🤷‍♀️ Almost all of the skier- snowboarder instances I've seen have been a direct cause of the skier either not paying attention to the people around them or having no knowledge of the basic mechanics of snowboarding. I think everyone on the mountain could do a lot of good by learning both in order to come to a full understanding.

As far as I know me and a friend are the only people to hit every lift on the combined mountain including the magic carpets and kiddy lifts. We started in the canyons worked our way across and back. We only pulled it off because we worked for the resort and used the ski school lines or cut around the line by bribing liftes. If you don’t do those two things it’s impossible we literally were first and last chair of the day and bombed it every run with no breaks.
