So, to add some additional context. My father was recruited by Paterno when he was still an assistant under Engle. He played on the same team as Sandusky with Sandusky being a year younger. Jerry would stop by the house on a number of occasions when he was in Pittsburgh. My dad always said what a great guy he was. And for the ridiculers he never tried anything on me. That all being said when I was 17 my fathers back went out. Resulting in a surgery on his spine that failed, got infected and ended in my father terminating his own life 3 days after I graduated. During my fathers funeral, Paterno showed up and gave a eulogy in which he talked about the day he met my father and why he recruited him. He talked about my fathers character and integrity. These were hallmarks of his professional career. Paterno did not have to come but he felt compelled to help our family's suffering. For this I'm very grateful. While the Sandusky issue is complicated. With Paterno even saying he failed. I will say that to judge this great human being on a serious lap of judgement by both Paterno and the University was such a great tragedy for a great human beings legacy. Paterno really did walk the walk and talk the talk.
Joe did so many great things for so many people and failed in this instance. The complicated part is trying to reconcile a Man's entire legacy because of what unfolded by a sexual predictor that had so many people fooled. Everyone wants things black and white. Guilty or innocent. Rarely are one's actions so easily summarized.
The second I heard about “Trump being an idiot,” followed by a comment that show wasn’t about politics, I shut the thing off…and judging by the comments, I made a good decision.
I went to PSU football camp twice while in HS....I was a LB so I was in the position group of Sandusky, which was awesome cause I think even back in the 80s i think he was the DC. When I mention this to anyone today, I'm always ridiculously asked if anything happened. I specifically remember him being the best teacher of technique fundamentals that I ever experienced in my time playing the game. I also thought he was incredibly patient with the learning process. I played in Western PA so there was a lot of screaming and yellng I was used to. Not a lot of patience. I remember getting back home (pittsburgh) and telling my parents what an amazing coach Sandusky was. I also know some of the people involved in this scandal. Not any of the main people in the case. But I have had my doubts for a long time. My focus was never the football drama outside of the lines so I really never knew much more... but this is fascinating, Zach. OH - and your transformation - not just the beard - wow man -- two different Zachs! :) Youve really grown into this thing your doing... cool...
I attended this camp twice and was also a LB. He appeared to be such a charismatic great guy. I also played in wester PA for Upper St. Clair HS. Small world.
My early years were spent in Dayton OH - but all my family was from Pittsburgh. Moved to Pitt when I was 10 but I stayed loyal to the Reds Bengals Buckeyes no matter how much the steeler fans tried to convert me! Took a ton of grief for it
Not getting date right doesn't mean it didn't happen. He says that he had to have talked to Paterno the next day or it wouldn't hold up is also a stretch. Women report rapes all the time years later and not know the exact date which doesn't mean it didn't happen
Did you not listen? The authorities got the date wrong twice and it needs to be correct if you are going to send someone to a cage for the rest of their life. If you cannot get the date correct what else is not correct? Also a women forget the day she was raped? Unless she was beat unconscious and has memory problems that would be the only way a women forgets what day they were raped! Get the date correct or it did not happen. And we now know through testimony and the fact that Jerry Sandusky was found not guilty of the shower incident says it all. This case is proof the majority of people do not think, they just follow which is why this kind of stuff can occur and be gotten away with.
Right? It still doesn't explain why Sandusky, in his own defense, both in court and on TV, admits to getting naked with little boys and "horsing around". In other words even if there was no rape he should be given a life sentence for exposing himself multiple times to multiple kids.
Let me sum up this interview so you don’t have to listen to 48 minutes worth of BS. 1. The guest believes McQ saw Sandusky and the kid in the shower together, not doing anything, and definitely not rape. 2. The guest is fixated on the prosecution getting the date of the rape wrong--twice. 3. The guest believes that McQ was manipulated by prosecutors. 4. The guest believes that McQ intentionally threw games while he was playing, killing his credibility for anything. It’s really difficult for me to listen to a guy who speaks with such absolute confidence….total ironclad confidence, and yet keeps saying “I believe….I believe…I believe….”. In the end, what you or anyone else believes means jack squat. It only matters what can be proven. The guest makes good points about problems with the date of the incident. He attacks that with several facts, and from what he has uncovered, he is more than likely correct that the date of the rape is incorrect. However, he then goes a step further and comes up with his own date, piecing all kinds of other facts together like a jigsaw puzzle missing 3/4 of the pieces. His leaps to conclusions are terrible logic. And, in the end, it takes 47 minutes to finally say that Sandusky was in the shower alone with the kid, but no rape was happening. He glosses completely over the fact that a grown naked man was in the shower with a naked kid. Why don’t we start with those facts and build out from there? Could the prosecution have been wrong with certain facts. Yep. Sure could. Could McQ have a faulty memory and mix stuff up? Yep. It’s possible the prosecutors got stuff wrong and got lucky their case didn’t completely fall apart. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is not even debated--even by this guy--that Sandusky was naked in the shower with one other person that was a minor. Not even contested at all. In my own experience, I’ve seen a similar case (not as severe) happen, and things on the legal side are bloodsport. I knew of a guy accused of sexually assaulting 2 minors-and I know it was true because I heard the guy admit it to me and described it in awful detail…..yet when it came to trial, a third kid leveled an accusation and in a police interview gave them a date when it happened. The defense proved the date was false--ironclad--and before trial told the prosecution that they were introducing this false account and were going to say that the two accusers were also falsely claiming sexual assault. Suddenly, 5 years in prison turned into a plea deal of 7 months in jail. The revealing of truth sometimes gets stopped when the law gets involved. Other times it doesn’t. I’m not saying Sandusky didn’t do this. I’m also not saying he did. But a grown man being naked with a boy in the shower? Let’s start there when building a claim that Sandusky didn’t do anything. Truth is a casualty in this war when one keeps saying “I believe…..”
Why bring President Trump into this? That was both weird and pathetic 🇺🇲....Then, dude says he's not a conspiracy theory guy, and then proceeds to spill out conspiracy theories. This whole interview seems like trash conspiracy theories from a secret Penn State/Joe Paterno fan 🤷🏻♂️
Zeigler's two documentaries before this were about the Clinton Administration being responsible for 9/11 and Barack Obama being elected because the media were mean to Sarah Palin. FWIW. I prefer my sports to be apolitical by non-consporacy theorists.
Terrible interview! Just couldn’t stand listening to this guys voice! Also soon as Zach jumped on the hate Trump train I was pretty much done listening! No longer a follower of Zach!
"Mike McQueary dropped off the face of the Earth". He is not a public figure, never actually was. His one moment of relevance is long over. Why should we know or care what he's up to? And is his disappearing from the public supposed to discredit his claim? This is ridiculous.
As a PSU fan, i was shocked when this all went down..Ironically, i had Sanduscky as an inmate at Sci Laurel Highlands..Sandusky was a quiet inmate, and his wife visited him weekly..
@@brianwalter7387 guess you've never heard of Sam Sheppard. Courts make mistakes, especially in a farcical case like this. Did you actually listen to the John Ziegler interview, by the way?
@@aaronrider4051 nope, dont honestly care, law is law, guilt or innocent, not my problem, go argue with someone else, hell, go take it up to supreme court for all I care..stupid conversation
"Without the shower incident, everything falls apart". No. Sandusky has admitted publicly both in court and even on TV that he's been naked with children. That was his defense! And numerous children, who have since become adults, as well as their parents have brought up eerily similar accusations of Sandusky picking them up, taking them to his basement and molesting them. Often the incidents happened on the same day. There is zero doubt that Sandusky is a child rapist.
I never knew you did a podcast with Ziegler but this is awesome. Almost no one knows any of the actual facts of the Penn state “scandal”. There’s a good chance Sandusky is completely innocent, but it’s practically undebatable that Penn state or Paterno did anything wrong.
@jasonstewart92fs I dunno, what happened in the OJ Simpson case? What a bizarre argument. The Sandusky trial was as absurd as many trials are. They let someone testify as a secondhand witness Against Sandusky on behalf of a guy who had dementia. And ironically the guy he was testifying on behalf of, actually had told police it was not in fact Sandusky who he saw with kids. The trial was nothing remotely close to “having all the facts”.
The Michigan situation involves actual cheating in games which involves everyone that runs the progam similar to USC in 2009, where with Penn State the sexual misconduct involved only those that did the criminal activity and those that knew about it.@@lindencamelback2305
LOL. It seems to me that Zeigler is nothing but a tool of Paterno family clean up team. EVERYTHING that he presents here is baseless speculation. IMO, Paterno knew and covered it up.
@@paulks2339theres no more conspiracy to clear him. Fbi cleared him of any wrong doing and the NCAA reinstated all his wins. Only people left are the people who don't want to believe in authorities, and they'll never change their mind
Let me give you folks some context. My boss for 29 years who everybody respected and I would trust my own kids with is a Pedophile and got arrested. Now his wife got arrested. The town and where we work are in complete disarray. Point is a Pedophile doesn't advertise what they do, in fact, they are very good at not getting caught. I'll end with, the assaults happened in their home and it was his wife's daycare business he preyed on. One of the victims was a coworkers daughter.
There was a lawyer who "disappeared " in Lock Haven PA who was investigating this about a year or two before it became a huge story. All they found was his empty car and laptop(I think). Wonder what happens to him?
