There's also a stigma in my country where "dry hair" is not appealing and that I should always get my hair (chemically) straightened. I was young back then and my family would always tell me to get it straightened (or 'rebonded' as what it is called in my country) and I did it four times since 2014. Now I'm older I realized that my hair was severely damaged from that process and it took me a long time to know that my hair was just curly after all and not dry (just like your hair type). Although it is convenient to have the hair rebonded, it is very damaging and i specifically would not recommend so and i'd rather find ways to maintain the hair in its best condition.

FYI: Keratin treatments, relaxers, and thermal reconditioning / Japanese straightening are entirely different processes. They are not different names for the same thing. It sounds like what you had done was thermal reconditioning aka Japanese straightening.
@TracyD2
@TracyD2 2 года назад
It is basically the same. It breaks the di-sulfide bonds and then you reform it. The way they break might be a different chemical but they are breaking non the less. It will damage hair eventually. Some peoples hair might be stronger and they can get it done once or twice with not much issue and their hair might even look better but it is still a damaging treatment. Like those people who can bleach hair 6 levels and still look good, for now. Doing a keratin treatment like Aphogee 2 step where it’s just adding protein that is a different story and not the keratin treatment where they use the flat iron. My issue is how they market it as a treatment that is healthy for their hair. People fell for it hook line and sinker. Even stylists lol. Don’t have to believe me there are FINALLY more articles on it. Even in allure magazine.

So which one is the keratin treatment where they don’t use flat iron? Any strengthening requires flat iron
@bbygrlpt2

Thats true. I had done Keratin and Japanese straightening and theyre very different. Keratin makes your hair less frizzy and easier to style but Japanese straightening makes your hair pin straight until your new hair grows and you cut the treated part off

You’re the reason why I started learning to appreciate my wavy/curly hair! I also went through the same experience and got my hair permanently straightened in Vietnam. Definitely don’t want to go through the awkward phase of half frizzy half straight hair again 😖

I have been straightening my hair every 1.5 - 2 years for the past 8 years. My hair is still healthy, and I consistently use a serum and hair mask. Recently the top part of my hair has started to turn wavy again, I decided to leave it and see how wavy it can become. However, this phase is truly painful 😩

I want to permanently straighten my hair but I am really scared to do it. I have straight silky hair on the top but curly frizzy hair below my neck. I have heard that after straightening even new hair from roots becomes excessive frizzy and curly than the one before straightening. Is it true? I really wanna know

I really wouldn't worry about it! I've pretty much haven't seen my natural hair color for the last decade. It's been either dyed or permed both straight and curly) My hair feels fine. And it hasn't been excessively frizzy. In fact the straightening perm will give you less frizz. I give my hair hairpacks every week. @@low-keyloki

Why do people hate their hair so fucking much? I have extremely curly hair and seeing women with what I barely consider wavy hair are crying over not having straight hair. It is insanity. Stop trying to look like a clone and love yourself.

hello! i wanted to say, thank you so much for the information. i also got my hair rebonded when i was on vacation with my family, and i wasn’t entirely aware of the effects of chemically straightening my hair. i’ve been stressing over the fact that my hair lost so much volume, but all the advice in this vid helped me relax and finally feel comfortable with my straightened hair. :) 💗

Chemical hair straightening actually ruined my life tbh. My hair fell out gradually and after 3 years of the treatment i am diagnosed with female pattern hair loss . Everything got messed up then. Yeah its gonna be diff for others but i don't really recomend this ,do things that work out for your curls instead. Wished i could realized it sooner

if you get it done only once in a while with a LOT of time in between like 3-5 years, you should probably be okay. I highly recommend against getting it back to back for maintenance (like when you dye your hair and get it refreshed). Also, you can always consult with your hairstylist!

Asian, black, white women...all so desperate to have the exact same stick straight hair. All want to look like clones to appeal to arbitrary beauty standards. I see it all over the world. Yet as women we all struggle with self-acceptance. Wasting so much of our time and money to look acceptable to a society that doesn't even respect our human rights. But yes, let's be depressed about frizzy hair.

I got it done because all my mom said is that it would remove my frizzy hair and she did not say anything about it being straightened, she knows I am bad with change and she went behund my back and told the hair stylist to do so, big regret
@TracyD2
@TracyD2 2 года назад
Your mom probably didn’t know. Some stylists don’t even know much about it. Sad to say. Not all will straighten hair straight but all of the treatments break hair bonds and are forced to reform into a different hair pattern. Some treatments even wear off after months. The damage doesn’t that’s the problem.

Only just started watching the video but my personal experience with hair straightening was absolutely awful, I got the Cezanne straightening treatment which was supposed to be “gentle and formaldehyde free” but I still had my hair fall out in clumps and it never grew back and it’s been 2 years 😢I’m missing whole sections of curls on my head, I used to have SUCH thick hair😔 been on oral minoxidil for 2 years and now topical minoxidil for about 7 months and I think I’ve had about as much success as I’m going to with each one which really really sucks. I eat VERY clean and healthy, I take vitamins for my deficiencies, Ive gotten bloodwork done etc, been to 3 different dermatologists… 🤷🏽‍♀️

it depends, every hair absorbs the solution differently. even tho my friends hair stayed straight for a year, which is pretty long, she didnt take great care of her hair which led her to frizzy curly tangled hair. (her hair routine is literally just shampoo and water) on the other hand, mine didnt even last for 2 MONTHS, yet my hair grew out to be soft and smooth as i actually had a hair routine

That’s fine! You could do it if you want but I highly advise not to do it back to back. For example, if you get it done now, don’t do it again until a few years later. Let there be a looong space in between the chemical treatments that you do on your hair. Please also consult with your hair stylist.
