His 3% has actually been just fine for his rookie season. I expected him to finish the year at around 30%. He's currently at 31.5%. Thing is, he started the season horrifically @ 2/24 (8.3%). Since then, he's gone 49/138 (35.5%). That's approximately league average in today's NBA. Sure, most of his 3's are wide open... But that's really all he needs to do. If he can hit open 3's at 35-36%, defenders will have to respect him out there, which will help to open up the lane. His closest player comps are guys like Westbrook, Rose & Wall. Westbrook & Rose were both MVP's & prime Wall was no joke either. None of those guys were even near league average 3 point shooters. None of em shot as well from 3 in their rookie seasons as Scoot has this season. Westbrook & Rose both shot 3's @ a low % even in their MVP seasons. Lately, Scoot has also been absolutely automatic from the FT line. Imo, it stands to reason that Scoot will actually be a better shooter than Westbrook, Rose or Wall. Where Scoot's inefficiency lies is actually in his midrange & finishing at the rim. This suggests to me that his low scoring efficiency (FG%, eFG% & TS%) has much more to do with the game moving too fast for the rookie than it does his actual ability to shoot. He's been steadily improving. Imo, the G League Ignite program is just terrible at preparing players for the NBA. I think that the game will continue to slow down for him. I believe he will become a superstar in this league. I just think that he was foolishly seen as a very NBA ready prospect by most analysts. So Scoot will be just fine imo. What I think needs criticism is the G League ignite program. From what I can tell, it's the worst possible route to the NBA that these young guys can take.

good take. it makes me wonder about other leagues like OTE preparing players for NBA. Many guys not coming out of college (OTE, igtnite, etc etc.) seem to be super athletic with Ausar and Amen Thompson also. All three struggle shooting threes it seems like although a very small sample size. if it is true that alt leagues dont rlly work its sad cuz colleges rip off players so much and many wont use their degrees regardless cuz they have a scholarship.

Watching all those clips I notice scoot can’t score with his left hand around the rim
@Yrtay_1
@Yrtay_1 7 месяцев назад
Not surprised, he’s gonna develop that hopefully in combination with him growing his driving presence, just like how Russ had too. I see him atleast being a serious slashing threat in the future, and a smart playmaker, but I think it’s too soon to be sure on anything else.

Who has the worse true shooting % in the whole league while playing significant mins?
@trongray664
@trongray664 7 месяцев назад
So did we over estimate Scoots athleticism? The lack of lift on his finishes w/o a clear run way is concerning to me seeing as slashing and finishing at the rim was projected to be his biggest selling point as a prospect.
@sageofcausality173
@sageofcausality173 7 месяцев назад
Definitely not,he has shown flashes of that athleticism and slashing but he still young and getting use to it,russ didn't just start dunking and slashing like he did in 2017 in his rookie season
@trongray664
@trongray664 7 месяцев назад
@@sageofcausality173 What are you talking about? Russ was known early on for just being out of control on his drives and still kinda is. He never had trouble getting actual lift in traffic. The problem with Russ was his footwork. Russ didn't magically get more athletic in 8 years into his career. However this video clearly showcases Scoot having a lack of lift w/o space. This indicates an athletic limitation not a foot work issue. Scoot is still athletic but he's not Russ or Ja level at getting off the ground. Like I said if his slashing and finishing is suppose to be his selling point but he can't get up in traffic, to me that's a concern.

About the 3s: it's worth considering that as a rookie, Chris Paul shot 28% from 3. By year 3, he was at 35%, and in his career has maxed out at 41%. So if Scoot can follow that trajectory, and throw in those sick passes he makes, he'll be a beast.
@justinah7400
@justinah7400 7 месяцев назад
His 3 pt shooting has been getting better since November and the season number is a little misleading because in October he only shot 5%. His attempts per game have been going up each month and since November he hasn't shot below 33.3% Nov-33.3 Dec-35.3 Jan-33.9 Feb 38.5 (so far)

Blazers have Brogdon at PG and Ant Simons at SG so...scoot hasnt gotten the reps but he has improved. When one of those guys gets traded, he will improve more

I don’t think Brandon miller is better than scoot , it looks like the way he’s coached is messing up his game , he’s stronger and faster then any guard reminds me of Derrick rose
@Luke-bj8mr
@Luke-bj8mr 6 месяцев назад
You don't think miller is better? When exactly has scoot displayed he was better? It wasn't last year at the ignite and it certainly isn't this year. They have tried to sideline sharp to let scoot take over and he is so fucking bad they let dalano Blanton shoot 19 times.

Dont worry guys, Blazers front office solved the problem. Keeping Brodgon to mentor. Screw letting him play the 30 mins a game he should be in a FREAKING REBUILD. Mentoring will get him out of his slump. Beating a dead horse, but whole FO needs to go, as well as Billups. If a finals mvp point guard cant mentor the "new face" of the franchise, then why is he still here. They threw Dame to the wolves for this guy, and no limits his playing time, even with Sharpe hurt. Blazers are a joke right now, and its not a 19 year olds fault. Ok blazers rant over. Scoot will be a very good player in a few years. He wants to hustle on defense and doesnt seem out of plays very often for a child lol. Once the game slows down for him, he'll be able to use his atheletism more efficiently, and his shot is decent, it will start falling after the reps come. He can still even grow, hes 19, he's 6'3, could be 6'4 or 6'5 and can put on 10-15 more pounds and be even more of a beast(obvoiusly not everyone grows into their 20's but he could). Hopefully next year we'll trade Brogden and JG, and we can tank (just like we will end up this year, for the 4 year, and every year of Billups as a coach), but we can then develop 1) Scoot / Ant 2)Ant / Sharp 3) Sharp / Murray 4) Camara / Walker 5) Ayton / Reath (maybe another backup, bigger younger guy, but i like his 3p shooting) Great video btw :D

@rck1322
@rck1322 7 месяцев назад
@migueldejesus5322 I'm sure he's a good player, but he's way too injury prone, as his 6 games this season proves. Plus, he's not any bigger than Reath. Portland hasn't had a true center as a backup since Leonard. Trendon, Eubanks and Reath are all like 6'8.
@floydclark6710
@floydclark6710 7 месяцев назад
@@rck1322Whiteside & Kanter were both true centers. Yes, Rob Williams is injury prone, but he is absolutely a true center. Reath is a true center as well. Eubanks is a C/PF, although one could argue that he's better fit as a PF next to a center who can spread the floor. Watford is definitely not a center, sure, but he was also never meant to be our backup center. We just had injuries & also tanked, which are the only reasons that he even got some minutes at the 5. Same reason we play Walker at the 5 at times, out of position. Point is, our last true backup center wasn't Leonard & you don't need to be 7' tall in order to be a true center. Are you gonna tell me that Al Horford isn't a true center? He's the same height as guys like Williams & Reath.
@rck1322
@rck1322 7 месяцев назад
@@floydclark6710 Wasnt whiteside only here when Nurk was hurt? Kanter was mostly a starter too, wasnt he? I thought Kanter startered and Meyers was backup, that was what I was thinking of. Maybe my years were mixed up.

Thank you. Scoot is raw rn, but with time and experience, dude is gonna be nasty. He's already had some great flashy passes, mini-posters, crazy finishes, and a steadily improving 3 point shot. Once the game slows down a bit, and he gets NBA level training for some offseasons... Woo!

Brandon millers almost 2 yrs older then scoot, he’s supposed to be better right now and he was literally selected higher on the draft. 20 yr old PGs just don’t do what scoots doing out there
@floydclark6710
@floydclark6710 7 месяцев назад
@@Kingofwolves503Exactly. Miller is older & also plays a much easier position for a rookie. Not to mention, the G League Ignite program just isn't good at preparing players for the NBA. Scoot is improving & will continue to improve. I'd still take Scoot over Miller. Time will tell, but I'm betting that Scoot will have the better career when it's all said & done.
