There is no “ugly” stage in locs .. every stage is beautiful the “ugly” stage just test you to see if you really serious about locs don’t give up & you’ll love your hair I can guarantee it ! ..& I don’t call locs dreadlocs because nothing is dreadful about locs ..(though I do slip up sometimes lol) but anybody that wants locs DO IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN don’t die with regrets ..& for those who have locs continues on your journey .. All locs are beautiful .. All love & blessings to all 🙏🏾
You are right I am almost 7 months I felt ugly for all 6 months I feel better now. Even if u stopped me from saying it will not stop me from feeling ugly. But if you stay the course you will love the journey
I do prefer calling my hair locs but I feel like no one should get mad at others for calling your hair dreads especially people you don't know and when people be like "Don't call my locs dreads there's nothing dreadful about them"......ummm like if someone comes up to you and say "I love your dreads they are so gorgeous" they obviously mean no harm because they literally compliment them and called them either pretty or gorgeous etc and said they love them. Smh. To me it doesn't sound like an insult people need to stop focusing on the word "dreads" and focus on the fact that person gave you a compliment. Now, I have to be honest I do tell my big sister it's locs because she looks at locs like they are dreadful and disgusting I quickly correct her but I don't get mad at her🤣 I just feel like since she's my sister I can get away with telling her it's called locs and be more comfortable with saying that to her obviously she's my family lol but anyone else I don't really correct anyone else with calling locs dreads because not everyone knows and who gots time to be correcting people that's gonna make people confused as to why you getting offended with them when they compliment my hair and say hey I love your dreads I say thank you because they're complimenting me they didn't say nothing negative towards me so I don't feel the need to get offended.
For me! I if a person says dreads or ugly phase it’s does not bother me. Everyone has their opinion and experiences with their hair. I call it crazy phase my hair look crazy but I’m embracing it! Six months in 🤷🏾♀️❤️😍😂
all true......It's a personal journey. The "ugly stage" does not have to apply to all. I went from bra length relaxed hair too my big chop. What an adjustment. I was not comfortable with hair that short but I am never gonna relax my hair again. I have 4c hair and it grows so much slower since I am natural. I now have baby locs and yes I am struggling and can't wait until they loc and I get some length. I love textured hair so I know I am gonna love them. I was told that I was bold to big chop and asked why I cut all that "pretty hair". I give society the finger....lol it's my hair my choice.
Yesss! I was told that too when I bug chopped and also when I decided to loc my hair. Even now people still say they prefer my Afro over my locs. But I love my locs and I know why I chose to stick to it for the overall goal. And girl I couldn’t wait until they started locking but enjoy the ride when u look back at it 😂your hair isn’t as ugly as you think it was
Same. I call them locs and I I’ll only explain the history if it’s someone I’m close to that’s said it multiple times (just to enlighten them). But if it’s someone that’s just passing and complimenting me, then I don’t take it personally.
I am knee deep in the "ugly stage" and I'm watching videos to cope😒. Just adjusting to the thiiiick roots after sleeking them down my whole loose natural journey. btw i like the term locs, just because of why the word dread was attached to them 🤬 But call em what's comfy to you.

I just started my loc journey but due to my job I had to get instant locs, for a more professional & clean look. However, I know I’m still going to go through the process of them budding, maturing, and locking all the way. I’m super excited!!

Actually in Rastafarian culture it was considered an insult that they embraced and used as a statement and in Hindu culture dreads are symbolic statement of disregard for physical appearance. ... The followers of this movement called themselves "Dreads," signifying that they had a dread, fear, or respect for God. But either way, I dont care really. I naturally call them locs tho because I'm spiritual and I do ancestral work.. not religious. This journey was about nothing spiritual either, lol. I just hated dealing with my hair, took out my box braids and put 64 starter locs in. 4months now 😁

I hope mine get thick and luscious. Ima try to find you on insta. I have my locs in my highlights but I was thinking about youtube at the first year.
I don't call it the ugly stage, I call it the teenage or unruly stage. The hair is frizzier, which is actually kind of cute to me. But also, the locs may stick up in all types of directions. Both sets of locs, I had a loc in the front that stuck up even within a week or two or retwisting. It wasn't until they became mature that they would lay down even after washing.
