I am from Jamaica and I own VWs (golf and Tiguan). This video has good information. I did all the research before buying my cars; so I stick to my service schedules (and do the regular services myself because some of these dealerships and service providers rip you off by not servicing your vehicle properly, which leads to reliability issues) and don't abuse my small engine cars (1.4L turbos) by driving too hard - no need for it. Lots of pros for buying and owning a VW though (especially where the feeling of safety (most important), aesthetics and tech is concerned, compared to their Japanese counterparts) if you're prepared for the cost of maintenance. Thing is...reliability aside...the Toyotas and Hondas are overpriced when used; but you can negotiate a good price on a used VW in good condition (and achieve your savings up front). Point of note... nowadays, in this era of scarcity, cars that used to be "reliable" over the past decade are becoming less reliable, and some cars that use to be "somewhat unreliable" are now becoming more reliable (if possible, just buy the engines without the turbos). Truth is.... some VWs are not necessarily less reliable (whatever that is, based on your expectations)... they just costs more to maintain (deterrent for thieves); so I grab my savings up front and take care of my cars.

1. So the solution is. Low mileage, avoid the small turbo charged engines, follow the manufacturer recommendations service schedule like a politician seeking votes, research about the vehicle's failure points and do preventive maintenance. For diesel vehicles, go on long drives atleast once a month and "drink" fuel from reputable service stations. 2. How else do you expect sule to pay his bills if he is only dealing with with challenges of 20,000 kshs. How are our country's going to be pay off the bloody Chinese loans unless we pay "enhanced" bills for the European vehicles? We are being patriotic 3. About stoning, we will popcorn you. Insha Allah. We appreciate your research efforts. Take the negative comments in jest. It's part of the feedback loop.

Hi Eric am in Kenya and I own a 2004 mk4, engine 1.8T golf gti since 2022 (locally used) 260,000km and counting runs like a dream, cheap to run and maintain. From my end the car is reliable and fun to drive. So far just replaced the timing chain, normal suspension job and the normal general servicing From experience this car was built to last and serve. Consumption 10km t0 12km/ ltr . This a work horse

am a mechanic in Australia and have owned a few Audis, i have a daily 2016 A4 that the only big job i did on it was the water pump,its a common failure in them and vws but i put the updated one made out of metal the plastic ones are bad. Being a mechanic i don't fear them coz i can fix them myself. I love Audis and Benz sana

Hi, I'm new subscriber to the channel. I really enjoy and have learnt a great deal from your content. I'm in Zimbabwe, and I feel your content helps most African car buyers since we mostly relay on 10+ years Old imports. I was really considering getting an Audi A4 which is currently at +80k milage, I'm glad I ran into this video, its a bit unfortunate that you sometimes will be speaking in your native language, but basically one can get the gist of what you will be talking about. If possible may you also include translative subtitles. Really love your constant. Keep up the good work

Great content bro. Following this review and the previous one ya money pits, I have resolved to save enough money to purchase a car with warranty for my next upgrade. Social pressure ilikua inanisumbua ati ni upgrade to Audi A4 ya Singapore (cause it's cheap). Currently, let me stick to my JDM Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 cc 6spd MT yenye najua kila chuma itatoka wapi. Social pressure ni mbaya especially if your peers are buying German cars. I also wanted get a vw but these two reviews have proven that German machine need money to maintain them and they can disappoint you anytime when you least expect.

People with cars over 100k mileage can give their personal experience, Erick based his opinion on research and not experience. The water pump issue is correct though, VW's have been sued/recalled for faulty water pumps. The solution is to replace with an aluminium one for a cost of 20k or thereabouts.

Interesting, from my experience you get a reliable VAG group mec and u shall b sorted try juacali that's wea the gamble begins. Vws are not screamers on the road very comfy I mean there suspension is super now add the torque and I mean it's an effortless gain all the way it will b hard to beat a vw esp on the hill even small engined ones will definitely outdo jdm cars In conclusion depending on what u need in a car, forget the money pit issue the experience is worthwhile n the cars stop lk something else there brake game is serious jus to mention afew

I agree with content. being an owner of audi. but these things can be imported in bulk. I bought a set of all arms at 43k. and at impala the set can be 100k. these things can also be ordered in advance. u dont have to wait till the car demands then you start checking. but not all things can be ordered in advance.

Thanks for this. Can you also do the same for Mercedes & porsche. For some reason they're the only two Germans that seem to be reliable compared to Audi, BMW & VW. Talk more about the model engines to look out for, although for porsche is abit predictable having that it's owned by VW

People are getting too emotional about these old imported cars just because they spent stupid amount of money on them. These days cars, especially European cars are not designed to last more than 15 years or 200 thousand miles. And since they are at least 8 years when they reach Kenya that means they are almost always finished or finishing. Especially since you rarely get maintenance history.

As a VW owner I think you were fair. I got my 2005 Touareg 4.2L V8 petrol in 2006. I’ve had no issues to date. Only problem actually was spares I had to wait for 2 months ordered by DT Dobie.

I wish i can upload a video of what my Polo did to me just after Blue Post on that hill on way to Kenol. Meen! And the experience that followed! VWs are money pits. And the disadvantage is, the biggest, most of our mechs have little or no way around these vehicles.

I think it’s important to take care of the environment. Deleting DPF is not environmentally friendly, the solution is to ensure you run a dpf cleaning everytime the car goes for service. The particles filtered are harmful to your health.

VW loosely translates to "people's car", meaning they're affordable for the masses hence why you said it's best selling car(brand). Many people there can afford to buy them, including brand new ones.
