Straight from the 200th YCS in Columbus, we take a dive into the mind of Alex Bradshow of Guardian Games, a Yu-Gi-Oh card vendor! Players have very mixed opinions about vendors and their place in the community, but I thought I'd get some perspective from a vendor myself!

Thanks, I totally agree. I know a lot of people probably won't care much for an extended interview and it's not really about Yu-Gi-Oh specifically, but I thought there was a lot of valuable information here.

*Hey Team APS Squad! Special thanks to Alex Bradshaw and Guardian Games for providing me with this Yu-Gi-Oh vendor interview. Hopefully this provided some new perspective for players who have mixed opinions on vendors and their practice. Feel free to leave some questions here in the comments and he should be replying to some soon!*

1= He Mentioned Technology. What If the Vendor tries starting a fight with you even after when you pulled your phone out to show him that he is trying to sell you an Over Priced Card? By saying that is Card Value is Wrong and that Card Value is Outdated Blah Blah Blah? 2= As A Vendor are you allowed to use the Grading of the Card as a Selling Pitch? And Or Sell You anything Less then a Perfect Card? 3= And Finally= Can you Haggle with Vendors?

Great video. Really informative and very honest which we appreciate a lot. I recently started an online store and it’s very difficult to turn a profit (mostly on Sealed new products) with eBay /Paypal / tax taking a big chunk of profit. Maybe singles are the way forward. I started the online store along side my channel where I open a lot of YuGiOh products from my personal collection. I have the dream of opening a LGS in the UK (where I’m from) maybe one day I’ll be able too but along way off at the moment!

Great interview. I think you picked a good vendor to talk to. He was easy to relate to. I imagine a lot of the misconceptions about vendors come from the player base being mainly younger and less experienced in the business force beyond entry level.

I just got into the part time vendor game. What people don't realize is let's say you buy a valued $20 card and you get it for like %70($14). Now you have to list it online where sale fees are taken, you have to pay shipping costs with tracking or take into account it could be lost in mail or persin lies about receiving it. You also could be sitting on that cards for weeks, months or longer. Prices in yugioh especially can completely change literally over night. Take into account the start up costs like a printer, label maker, sleeves, toploaders, envelopes, tape, and whatever else you may need. I literally am happy if I successfully make a dollar or two off a card after all of that. It's pretty much a legit job as it takes hours each day listing cards, packing orders, responding to people, searching for deals, and keeping up to date with prices and researching the meta and products. This is self employment too so you don't get insurence or reimbursement for anything. People like to shit on vendors thinking it's easy and they're ripping people off just instantly flipping stuff but that never happens. So many variables are taken into account and that "convenience" it all those factors packed into that single word.

I've seen vendors buy cards for $1 and immediately put a $10 price on it. Most shops in nyc rip off customers like gamestop does, which is bad business because theres a limited number of players.

I incredibly* really liked everything about this video, reitterating: everything. High quality video and audio. Seems very formal and professional, good interviewing as well. I hate really the community slang/jargon that gets thrown around non-stop and there is none of that here. Strictly pure proper English and no YGO slang is infused. Good job Paul! Seems like a good person, good vendor and completely reasonable. I would happily deal with this guy rather than the person harassing everybody at my old area (Vancouver). The "vendor" at my old locals will ONLY completely rip you off and always made a bad impression with me. I offered them $40CAD for a SHVI 1st Ed Crystal Wing Syncro Dragon when the BLLR reprint was announced. They took my money, took the card out of the sleeve and threw the Crystal Wing on the floor. That was the last time I ever dealt with them! Super nasty attitude towards Konami and it's players, acts like they know everything, act likes they know every ruling, always back-seat dueling; even though they don't ever play casually or in the tournaments. Completely disgusting and toxic person overall. I actually (personally) watched them trade a play-set of MP Dimensional Barrier, to a casual player for an Ultimate Rare Brilliant Fusion that the player just got from OTS pack. "Take the trade, I'm giving you a good deal," were his exact words, bullying around to get their way. There is no comparison between my locals "Craig" asshole and proper business man Alex Bradshaw. They are literally night and day of each other. Would be great to see more really great caliber videos like this. It's videos like this that I stay subscribed to APS' channel. 😎

I'd be interested in the vendor take on OCG products vs TCG and how the number of releases in each region affects card price. I notice the OCG usually gets more sets a year and they're smaller (less cards) which means buying fewer packs to get the cards you need/want.

The REAL truths about vendors below: 1) the negative stigma around vendors is secondary - the primary hate is toward konami, but konami is not around to take out your anger on so vendors are the next level of target. 2) Ever since everyone an their mom's tried to become vendors, the utility of being "that guy with the most cards" began to die. If 1 in 50 people have that mentality in the past, but now 1 in 5 or 1 in 10 it creates an environment not only where people try to undercut you exponentially more, but where shark pricing gets born. 3) Buylist pricing competition has really made it hard for vendors to hit the profit margins, which are razor thin as it is, they need to just to stay open. That is compounded when vendor choice increases at a faster rate than player growth. As a result, player perception on the vendor stigma is further fed as they think there are too many and they get irked when even more people are trying to get in their way of playing the game. And THAT is the real source of the stigma: It used to be a game for the people where people just bought and sold within their own groups where it was more rare that you'd need to go to a big store. And since the crackdown on event commerce among players, it is a very common perception that the vendors got hella backed by konami standing more between the player and the game, like there are more people than necessary in your path that are looking to profit off of you. And while it's easy to recognize their legitimacy, it's honestly simpler to just let the players be the ones assuming the risks of the market, not the vendors (at least not in the present numbers). Because there's a certain critical mass where it's not just cards you are paying for: you end up paying for overhead and what it takes to run the business. Which is fine, but compounded, when you buy this card or that card it's really mostly cash going toward a business that you didn't ask for or want to support that will probably die out one day anyway rather than going toward the card. It's a necessary evil that is helpful in the early stages, but eventually gets to be more trouble than it's worth.

big load of crap if you ask me. we live in an age where transport cost is around 0. how is it fair to pay 50-60% to the players selling their cards? 80% is fair. paying for the hotel and food of the employes is his choice. if i go to work nobody provides food for me.
@harrywang4769
@harrywang4769 3 года назад
I know this is a year old but in what world is transport cost "around 0". Just cause you get free shipping on your Amazon order doesn't mean the vendors didn't just add that price onto the base price of your product. It's not like it's that much different to a seller to sell a product for 10 dollars plus 5 dollar shipping as opposed to 15 dollars with free shipping.

@JoAxel

Trust Sam It is my primary source of income; although it’s not as much as people imagine. It depends on how much time you put into it but it is definitely more of a job at this point now that I operate a brick and mortar. I work around 72 hours a week at the store or at events.
