Havertz is having the same issue as Haaland early last season whereby he is probably used to being more direct than the rest of the team. Once they get used to each other we will hopefully see better teamwork.

Taking shots from outside the box is a big issue where we are weak. How are we to get good at it if we don't do it. Everyone has know for years that we won't shoot and even if we get a midfielder who's great at that. He'll be told not to do it and it'll be coached out of him. Happens all the time with wingers more than anyone.

@@carltonlambert7608 Considering that Emery and Mikel have come from La Liga experience (Arteta coming from La Masia+Pep Ball) I'm not suprised. Their playstyle is reliant on progressive ball play and less reliant on 'lucky' shots. It sucks, even after seeing many clutch goals this season and last season coming from that out the box area.

Yeah the dude full on tried to swat the ball away from Havertz and nobody (not even the commentators) thought to give that fact a little mention. From the distance the incident happened, it's incredible the referee sees Havertz's hands and immediately disallows the goal, but does not even explore the possibility of Cash doing it.

I am saying that the EPL referees are incompetent because they are scared about their position in the game. It exists to a certain extent across Europe but the situation in the EPL is far worse. Consider the use of technology. The European competitions use a technology for determining whether a ball has crossed the line as well as to determine offsides based on geospatial data. The geospatial data from all the cameras for the game is used to draw the graphic showing whether a player is offside or not. That same technology can also take on the responsibility to determine whether a ball is in or out. Note that the EPL has turned down using the technology. If you remember they were one of the last leagues to adopt VAR. And instead of taking the lessons for how it was used in other leagues, they are constantly changing the interpretation of what is considered a handball. Suddenly moving your arm out to control the ball is not considered a handball if it hits a certain part of your arm. Without this daft rule, Liverpool don't lose the title to Man City two and a half seasons ago when Rodri makes a clear handball against Everton and no penalty is given. Next consider how profoundly inconsistent the referees are. Two seasons ago, we had James Mccarthy just out and out kick Saka on the back of the legs. He is not trying to play the ball at all. A couple of weeks after the non red for James Mccarthy, Ben Godfrey purposely stamps Tomiyasu in the face while he is on the ground. The same ref and VAR official don't give Godfrey a red card. If you don't believe me re-watch the highlights and you will see him hugging the touchline leaving Partey all alone in midfield. Brighton (H) 0-3, zero creativity without zinchenko. The team was completely outplayed only a week after dismantling Newcastle away from home when Zinchenko was playing. Tierney wanted to leave because he didn't want to be a bench player. He's now getting injured constantly Reiss Nelson isn't trusted because Saka is so bloody good, plus Arteta doesn't rate him down the right.

I'm not sure if the ball hit his hands even, no tv angle is clear enough to show that. In fact, it was clearer that the ball touched the defender's hand. I do not know how the referee made a no goal decision under evidence that are unclear.

Sadly the law says ANY contact. Weirdly, had Eddie got his toe on the ball between Kai's hand touching it and the goal, even if it goes in off Kai, the intervention of Eddie would be enough to mean it is a goal. It's not "handball" in the usual context so much as a special handball rule JUST for if the ball goes into the goal. It is SO dumb.

Yeah like it’s good to be creating chances but that’s only the first step. Time and time again we do not convert our high xG numbers into actual goals and because of that we lose games like this against Villa. Something needs to change so that we can improve our composure and clinical finishing.

Of course there have been a few hits and misses in the injury and transfer department but what this data reveals is that we need to chop off and replace the dead wood and injury prone players. I am sure the scouting team is working over time to find adequate replacements and within budget. This may take a few transfer windows and adaptations to the unpredictable injury situations. Nketiah, tierney, partey(due to injury record), emile smith rowe, reiss are not world class and are living on borrowed time...

our backlines was too passive yesterday, shouldve throw more through balls for our wingers and offensive 8s. zinny, gabriel saliba, (maybe rice, but he's more comfortable carrying the ball than line breaking pass, unlike jorgi or partey, pros & cons of him). But especially ben white, it was quite a bad performance from him tbh. I think we need another top class RB honestly, i mean, our bench is cedric, we truly lack qualities.

Firstly, Nelli is nowhere near the same level as Son whose strengths over Nelli include loads of PL experience, much better spatial awareness and most importantly, is equally adept at using his left foot as his right. The other hiccup for us is that Havertz and Nelli are occupying the same spaces instead of interchanging positions so the LHS dynamic is nowhere near as fluid as it was last season. So yes, we have loads of improvement to make to become the free flowing unit we were last season

Mikael I agree the Arsenal always seems to lose out when a Referee needs to make a decision.

It's the control that's drying up goals. Sometimes the forwards should play with no fear and robotism. The day that goes, no one will be able to touch us. We'd be like David Villa, Messi era Barcelona.

The more you have control of the games then you have to score goals, that's why we need a really ruthless striker nketiah isn't good enough

It's the George Graham style of control, except George Graham had Ian Wright and Arteta has Martinelli and Saka. The thing is if we want control we have to decide whether we have an out and out striker like Wright/Haaland or a control striker like Jesus and have more attacking wingers like Saka and Martinelli. Both Saka and Martinelli are still good but also still young, which means they don't always have the best decision making, but also means they haven't reached their ceiling, keeping them fit will mean they should reach their ceiling. Walcott and Wilshere never got to his ceiling because he was constantly injured either by luck or their own game management, doesn't help that they weren't strong players. I see Saka as probably our strongest attacking player, but referees are ignoring too many fouls on him, and Martinelli is weaker but good at diving away from injury inducing fouls and hope he continues to do so. If you want goals then Wenger and Emery were both attack minded managers, but it also comes with all the pitfalls of those sorts of managers as well which is a leaky defence. Wenger got away with it because he inherited the defence from Graham and also had some good signings and youth players like Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell, Emery didn't have the same luck when he arrived at Arsenal where he got Tierney (injured), Saliba (not ready?), Mustafi (liability), Cedric (inconsistent), Chambers (inconsistent), Holding (inconsistent), Bellerin (getting old), Sokratis (decent), Saka (was a good defender but moved to attack for player preference reasons, but did mean that Aubamayang got less service so didn't get as many goals and therefore no golden boot).

When you control games it gives you more chance to score goals. That's what City do, control games.

Yes exactly. I know Saka has loads of potential but he needs to learn to use his speed most of the time to get past defenders rather than slow down and move away trick them but pass tamely. Sometimes. We need experience in our team and how the hell does Arteta not see that, we bring in 18 year old after 18 year old. If we start using our speed instead of passing all the time it would be great

You are absolutely correct. Arteta wants a goal keeper that plays out from the back, but forgets he also needs to be a great shot stopper. The same mistake he is making with havertz. He is good at making runs, but clearly lacks the basic qualities of a good number 8.

@@benjamindadzie9657Yes, I actually don't Kai is the problem, because if you look at his defensive stats, they are surprisingly good, and he will beat Xhaka stats attacking wise by end of season. But I think people underestimate what Partey did on the ball, which is now missing from that 6 position with Rice, Partey was really good at breaking the lines, finding Odegaard and Saka quickly, allowing Saka to have 1-1 situations, just would have loved to see the midfield of Partey-Rice-Odegaard gel, but unfortunately Partey is just too injury prone, so that costs us.., but I think that is what is lacking in our fluidity, the Partey on the ball influence, but you not allowed to say it, because it is not fashionable.
