The Truth Behind MLK's Social Gospel | Virgil Walker 

I’m 56 and a black man and I’ve never heard about this part of MLKS life, however I never put a man on a pedestal for that simple fact he is not the Messiah Christ Jesus is the only Savior. And you couldn’t make a majority of black folks believe that this man is not a man of God because a lot not all don’t know basic biblical doctrine and theology. Great information.

I’m a 57 year old American of African ancestry. When I was 14 years old I researched Michael King Jr. as I prepared a presentation for “black history “ a month essay contest. It shocked me then when I read that King considered Gandhi to be his most significant influence. As a “church” kid, I wondered how a Hindu leader could possibly have greater influence on a Christian “preacher” than Jesus Christ. That led me to look deeper into his life and his real beliefs.

I'm a 52 year old black woman. Even as a child, I really didn't understand all the praise about MLK . Or all the blackness idolatry. Especially what's going on now. I do know there's racism of course, but I also do not think everything is racist. I knew he didn't seem like a true Christian or preacher. Call it decernment of the Spirit. Thank you, Jesus, for exposing. A lot of falsehood is coming out.

I'm so glad the truth about MLK is coming out. My Mom spent a majority of her life trying to educate the people in her sphere of influence on the truth of MLK, but it mostly seemed to fall on deaf ears.

I 100% agree with this video as well. Having done my own research on MLK years ago, reading his latest letters, I cannot in clear conscious consider MLK a brother in Christ, he was a hinderance of the gospel of Christ, perhaps even an enemy. Some other quotes: - I’ve been to the Mountaintop (1968): It's all right to talk about the new Jerusalem, but one day God's preacher must talk about the new New York, the new Atlanta, the new Philadelphia, the new Los Angeles, the new Memphis, Tennessee. [Applause] This is what we have to do. - Letter from Birmingham Jail (1963): the Apostle Paul left his little village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to practically every hamlet and city of the Greco-Roman world, I too am compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my particular hometown. In the above letter, as reading it, I was most hopeful for him showing elements of orthodoxy, for that letter is rich in religious language. Yet, in the end I was saddened by how MLK used Christianity as a veneer for his social agenda. MLK had no saving gospel only an American one. And this is what he left the black community with. A hope for preachers to speak about the ills of society and not the ills of sin, to speak on the freedom from oppression, and not the freedom from being a slave of sin through the gospel of Christ. By God’s grace, may “Black people” (which I’m a part of) wake up and see that MLK did help advance a cause, but not one that has eternal value. We need the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to go forth, not MLK’s gospel of freedom. Soli Deo gloria

Growing up in Alabama, the emphasis on the importance of this man in the church was drilled into us. At an early age, I began to think and learn for myself and I knew he was not a believer of the true gospel. Sad to see so many loved ones still think of him as a monolithic figure in the church. They turn a blind eye to every thing that you've said. Thank you

As a kid growing up in the 70’s it’s hard not to see MLK as a hero. As I got older and turning to Jesus for salvation and learning the scriptures and listening to MLK I heard a difference in theology. MLK was always presented as a Christian when in fact he was not.

I’m a 42 yr old black man raised in the south. I’ve lived in Georgia my whole life. As a follower of Christ married for 20 years, I have learned the significance of ministry to a man’s home being his first priority. When I was in my 30s and first (yes I didn’t hear about this until later in life) heard about the sinful and dark private life of Dr. King I was so disappointed. I couldn’t believe that no one had ever mentioned this to me in over three decades. I asked, how could a true man of God hurt his wife like this that he is charged to love, cover and protect and never seem repentant about it. How could he be living that way for so long and continue to get in the pulpit? Then later, I found out about some of his doctrinal beliefs. Now this video has shown me plainly and clearly he was not a Christian. Thank you for this information!

Amen!!! I am a Black Man who loves Yah!! I learned about this in the 90s. People called me an Uncle Tom, a liar, and tried to silence me! I never abandon my faith in Jesus being Divine and The Son of God; however, the so-called “Black Church” has made Micheal King Divine… I am glad the truth is coming out!

It's been FINANCIALLY ROUGH for me the last 3 years but I trust God and he will carry me through as I live for him hallelujah!!

Can G3 do series on this? I would like to see this expanded. It answers a lot of questions that have always nagged at the back of my head. But it also raises others. Is this why the Civil rights movement collapsed (i.e. because it wasn’t built on Christ in reality, it had nothing to stand on except man’s ambitions)? Is this why today we see mostly fraud and charlatanism among those who claim to be “for the oppressed?” I knew King wasn’t squeaky clean, but it never occurred to me that he might not be orthodox. This is quite revealing.

I want to know who chooses the heroes for the black community, who molds them, educates them & then gives them a platform? Thank you for this truth. I don’t mind having my foundation shaken to its core!

On MLK Day, I told my mother about all of his faults and non-Christian behavior, but she didn't believe me. I'll play this for her and hope she listens carefully to what you're saying here. So many people have literally deified this man, and Christians in particular need to understand how flawed and unchristian he really was.

It’s been said that the black church consists of more heat than light. Historically we are more enamored with the fiery, passionate messages from a charismatic orator as opposed to a serious consideration of receiving and propagating the truth of scripture. Fortunately we’ve seen s shift to the latter in many black churches, where the focus is on the content of the message and its adherence to scripture as well as the message being delivered by a skilled speaker! Thank you brother for boldly and clearly presenting the truth (no matter how unpopular it may be viewed)

This is...wow. If he believed this, this is a man-made gospel that saves no one but makes man a God instead. Virgil, I knew there was something about you the first time I saw you on Fearless with Jason Whitlock. God wanted me to see you there so I could find this G3 channel. Since listening to G3, I have learned so much. My favorite teachers are here- Voddie Baucham, Paul Washer, Justin Peters, Susan Heck- wow! I am looking forward to learning more about womens role as defined in scripture as well. This channel helps me in my quest to seek expository teaching of the Bible. My life goal is Bible only, or Sola Scriptura, as Paul Washer says, because if I believe the Bible is my standard for living, I don't need additional information with God's inspired word. Martin Luther King Jr.'s writings are not God inspired (makes sense since his immorality was unknown by the public for many years as well). The lie of the social gospel is that it is no gospel at all.

Thank you for having the courage to share this. I learned this many years ago but was met with so much skepticism about it. Black folks have a tendency to idolize certain people. While Dr. King did some great things, most people aren't versed well enough in our core beliefs to make a distinction about good and bad theology. I pray this video will open some eyes!

Disbelieving the deity of Christ isn’t heterodox. It isn’t a different flavor within orthodoxy. It’s heretical: it’s heresy. It denies an essential truth that is Christianity.

While I admired him for his stance on civil rights I am glad this is being brought out about him and his social gospel which does not save anyone.

I think it’s SO important to see videos like this one. If a white pastor says these things about MLK, he’s labeled a racist, but if another black pastor says it, it raises a lot of eyebrows. Thank you for sharing, brother.

I am 56 years old and I started teaching public school last week after working as a business owner for 28 years. I AM SHOCK at the state of high school aged children’s minds. It’s not at all okay with what I seeing. I have heard the N word more last week than I have heard in business for years!!! hearing the words Black and White in front of the word people by too many kids. Respect and self control having to be constantly challenged and fought for moment by moment. In my mind I wanted to share my knowledge about life to kids starting their journey only to see they have no interest in their journey at all. One week into teaching and I’m no longer worried about a few kids in a high school but the nation as a whole.

Well done. I knew King's lifestyle [his adulterous affairs, orgies etc] did not line up with a true follower of the Messiah nor believer in G-d [1Peter 1:16]. But what you share here now makes sense why he lived the way he did. True, as a man who did ground breaking work on civil rights he should be honored. But it should be made known to the world he was no man of G-d [as in the G-d of Abraham - Issac - Jacob]

Thank you for revealing the truth about MLK. I wondered over the years why my parents never publicly celebrated MLK. My parents were a product of the "equal, but separate rights". I believe the equal but separate rights morphed into the "civil rights" movement and was and is a social gospel.

I found this out about 7-8 years ago. It kindda rocked me; not because I couldn’t accept it, but the fact that my family and church nearly deified king. How could I tell them? I've noticed from a political cultural perspective that MLK day is more hallowed than Christmas and Easter. While there is tolerance for not honoring Christ , there is zero tolerance for not showing reverence for MLK. Subtle

Virgil Walker is one hundred percent correct. Why don't more people know this? It's because most of us were not taught to look to primary historical sources when studying a historical figure or issue. I've been reading through The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr. off and on for about a year and King's own writings repeatedly reject the deity of Christ, the Virgin Birth, and the Resurrection, just like Walker said.

This is the most accurate, succinct and expert analysis of King and the social, false gospel.

I’m a fan of G3 and have greatly benefited from their ministry. That being said, despite the truth being presented here, I find it hard to believe that if MLK Day were Jonathan Edwards Day in some alternate reality, Virgil would be enjoying a similar position. Nor do I believe that similar interjections would have been made for any doctrinal errors of Jonathan Edwards. I’m a 25-year-old Black male who, by God’s grace, holds orthodox beliefs. That being said, my understanding of US History seems to point to orthodox Christians of the time being slow to reform the issues MLK saw required more urgency. One has to consider if MLK saw the orthodox Christians of his day effectively making progress against the racial issues of that time, would he have adopted an orthodox view of Christianity. I think it’s far too easy for us today, who are not actively dealing with the same pressures MLK faced, to assume we would have come to different conclusions if put in his position. Again, I’m all for adherence to historic orthodox Christianity, but being that I’m also Black, I’m very grateful for MLK’s contributions.

What is sad is how the Evangelicals praise MLK jr as some great preacher and Christian. I think most Evangelicals have followed the social gospel which has nothing to do with Jesus Christ Lord and Savior. The road to destruction is wide and many will go the way of destruction. The road to salvation is narrow.

I'm a white European woman born in the US. This is so fascinating. I never connected with MLK as a teen, but wasn't sure why. I appreciate people who do good, inspire others and change the world. But, now, this explains my lack of connection with MLK. Great video.Thank you.

"Don't judge people by their skin color but by the content of their character" is a double edged sword. Racism is indeed a sin that anyone can commit. However, since no one seeks for God (Romans 3L10-12) and our character comes directly from our hearts which are deceptively evil (Jeremiah 17: 9-10) we can't judge people by that either. No one's character seeks for God either. Only those whose character has been hijacked (in the best of ways) by the Holy Spirit can we judge and that's inside the Church. God judges those outside of the Chruch. 1 Corinthians 5: 13-13. We are to call everyone, everywhere to repentance like the Apostle Paul said. Acts 17:30. Do not follow the doctrines of men. Follow Scripture.

About 13 years ago, after I became a born-again Christian, I read through the Bible. I came across Jeremiah 33:3 and started asking God questions. One question I asked was, if Psalm 91 is true, why didn't You, Lord protect MLK from getting murdered when he did so much good? Some weeks later, a man who had been an activist and photographer with MLK walked into my office. Long story short, I asked him what MLK really believed about Jesus. He told me what brother Virgil is expounding in this content. Later I researched and confirmed what the activist had said.

Wow! What an education I'm getting today! Sadly, most of us, blacks, will automatically dismiss this and angrily call this messenger as a sellout or Uncle Tom. Thank you, Sir, for enlightening us.

I guess the real shame is someone with such troubling theology still managed to do more than most for the civil rights movement.

Dr. King's embrace of liberal heresy is certain and important to acknowledge. However, just as Ben Franklin's unbelief and Thomas Jefferson's heretical beliefs do not negate their contributions to our nation's founding, King's serious theological errors do not negate his courage in leading nonviolent protests in order to help establish greater political equality in accordance with principles seen in the Declaration of Independence.

I heard this a few years ago and found it hard to beieve not because of who he was but because I honestly thought he was a Bible believing follower of Christ.

He was a political man and Not a Godly man. He pleased man Not God.

He also was immoral, cheating on his wife constantly. That's all you need to know to give you an insight to the man. "He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body." (Ephesians 5:33)

I have heard quite a few times that MLK Sr. aka "Daddy King" was indeed disturbed by the theological ideas the young Martin was getting from the liberal theological seminaries up North. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of the legacy of American racial segregation is that the more orthodox Christian seminaries i.e. Dallas Theological Seminary didn't admit blacks and other nonwhite student for most of their existence and well past into the Civil Rights Era.

About ten years ago I read about what he really believed. He masqueraded as a Baptist preacher.

I agree with everything said in this piece. I am a black man and I grew up with great admiration for Dr. MLK but years ago I began to discover the same issues about his theology. Simply put, if Dr. King did not die having repented and renounced his previous core beliefs that rejected the most important aspects of the gospel of Jesus Christ, then I cannot in Biblical conscience, say that he died a born again follower of Christ.

Wow--- I never knew that about Martin Luther King,Jr. What I find surprising is that J. Edgar Hoover who detested MLK never mentioned it or if he did, he did not so loudly. I am of European origin and am a Roman Catholic Christian. To say Jesus was not God or was not raised from the dead says you are not a Christian. Imitating Gandhi's approach of nonviolence was admirable and his advancement for several rights is actually a miracle, as no other civil rights leader even comes close. I do not have trouble for MLK embracing the social gospel. It is very disheartening though that King did not really believe in Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior. I guess there is always something to learn. I wonder why we never heard about this before?

When I was 16 years old my father attended a Lion’s Club meeting (for men) where a former FBI agent (retired) spoke about how the FBI were suspicious of King as they were aware of money King had put oversees in other accounts; which they believed was monies other bad actors (Communists) were paying him. This was in the 60’s after MLK was killed. This story stuck in my mind; and all I had ever been taught about him seemed opposite of what he actually did. I am not surprised by this but glad the rest of the story is now being told.

I knew about this since my teens in the 90s. Definitely not Christian in the historic orthodox sense. He allegorized the teachings of scripture to misapply it to the black at Civil rights movement. Black Liberation theology. Many black churches are led by men and women after such theology.

I really didn't consider MLK to be a religious leader, but more of a civil rights leader, so I'm less concerned about his beliefs. However, he was able to use his position as a preacher of Christ to gain acceptance and credibility; that's a part that disturbs me.
