In this video, I talked about the Akon city in Senegal and Nigeria's Eko Atlantic City Nigeria impact on the African continent and the African people.
Senegal’s Akon city and the Nigerian Eko Atlantic city project both are valued at least $12B, as an idea, is a very good way to start thinking of a new era in Africa and promote afro-futurism content. But the one question to ask is, how will this multi-billion dollar futuristic real estate project impact the African continent and the ordinary African man.

I love the comparison. Nice work, well done. I think I should share my opinion on these projects. They are great projects which will put Africa on the map our provide jobs. However, we constantly get our priorities wrong in Africa. I don’t blame the people behind these projects because they are business people and entrepreneurs. Their main job is to solve problems and make money(profit). And that’s exactly what they are trying to do. I think our government should be thinking about solving a general and common problems affecting the whole nation. Nigeria as example haven’t been able to solve the ELECTRICITY problem. Should the government not be encouraging and supporting entrepreneurs to solve electricity problems. Bad roads, hospitals etc and disgraceful for a country with the amount of resources and intelligent people we have. This is not blaming people behind this project. But it’s just increasing the gap between the rich and the poor. Actually, SOME of the money that will go into building this and also people that will buy real estate and businesses there will steal money from the government treasury. As a diaspora I think it will be a nice environment to live and work because it will look similar to the West or Developed Asian environment in terms of infrastructure. Keep up the good work bro.

Thanks for your depth of responds.. I understand Nigeria as you pointed has not done it’s duty by reducing the difference between the Poor and the rich By providing basic amenities... put let me emphasize that this projects are not government originated project.. this are private project with little support from the government.. so you can’t point fingers are individuals trying to build futuristic projects for their country

@@StevenNdukwu thanks for your response to this. I mentioned this already. I am not in anyway pointing fingers to the entrepreneurs and investors doing their job. And I fully understand these are private projects. I am just using the opportunity to address the problems common Africans are facing. And me and you know when the projects are completed some illicit money will flow into them from the treasury. I hope you are not treating this as a negative comment. It isn’t I should point it out.

I agree! Though I definitely don't consider being _Afrocentrist_ as a negative thing (especially with how the Whites have propagated the westen world to feel/think about us), I don't want to be seen as anti-middle-easterners, or anti-non-indigenous Africans by desiring for Black west Africans to finally be allowed to ascend to safety, wealth, and abunance without foreigners exploiting us in the process.

I’ve visited Eko Atlantic a couple of times. Although I think it’s amazing what they’ve achieved, it’s massively behind schedule. Personally, if I had to choose between these two major projects, I would go for Akon city because it looks and feels more African. It’s high time we stop copying the West and build a continent that reflect our values, not theirs.

Secondly, since you need help understanding my real point; Eko Atlantic is only remarkable on the African continent, its nothing special when compared to other developed countries. My main point was that I preferred Akons concept because it is centred on Afrofuturism.

When you refer to stop 'copying the west' and 'reflect our values'. What exactly do you mean? Are you referring to the architecture? Or the political or economical system on how the city is run? If I were to choose one of these projects. I would go with the Eko Atlantic project. Its a project that we actually see being built and they are various reasons why it's a long way from completion. As for Akon's 'futuristic' city, its a pipe dream - an unattainable hope. It looks beautiful on paper, but like they say the "taste is in the pudding". Akon hasn't mentioned how he intends to finance the construction of the city and who he intends to market the project to. No investor or financial institution is going to pour billions of dollars into a white elephant project, unless they believe its worth funding and if its financially viable. And most of the investors are westerners. They will also have a large part in the decision making on how the city is built. The architecture of the skyscrapers in Akon's city are ambitious and on paper it looks good, but structurally is another matter. So I wouldn't dismiss western values so easily, without understanding the fundamental mechanisms behind ambitious projects like EKO Atlantic or Akon's proposed city.

I'm excited about these two projects. I also like that they are private projects, because I believe privatizing Africa is the way to the future. We need to give government less power to fixing our problems, as they have failed us too many times with their old politics. However, I do hope more African governments would make it easy for private companies and individuals to succeed. I know sometimes it can be hard with how corrupt everyone is in getting things done.

I’m a Southern American female & I have lived in parts of West Africa for work & personal. What Akon is doing will materialize. It is just different there and people move at a slower pace. I once was in Gambia (next to Senegal) and called a taxi to go grocery shopping at the local market. He showed up 2 hrs later. Then decided on his own, with me in the backseat, to stop by his family’s house before dropping me off. When I asked why we stopped, the taxi guy said he wanted me to meet his family and for them to make me tea. I was gracious, but somewhat flabbergasted while sitting in the living room with the whole family (including his grandma) smiling at me lol. Soooo, trust me, Akon knows what he’s doing and if you think the build is slow, remember my “taxi tea time” situation and give him a break lol. He is trying to make a change, but he can’t change the entire culture to become super fast paced in the same way as the Western culture. Remember….Tea Taxi, folks 😊😂🚕☕️👵🏾

Projects like these benefit the whole country because it demonstrates stability of the government. Government stability is one of many factors that attracts investments & investments leads to job growth and job growth leads to a higher quality of life. India & China went through the same process, both nations suffered from severe poverty but after their adoption of Capitalism and pro business policies their severe poverty rate began to decline. Now China (though nobody should trust the CCP or their money) is among the most developed countries in the world, India is following suit though their bureaucracy holds them back resulting in slower growth. These things have a snowball effect, in years time everyone will benefit. The governments just needs to focus on education, job training, infrastructure and entrepreneurs, they should also take pointers from Rwanda & Botswana.

so instead of solving the smaller problems like building better roads; pipe systems; better houses; better buildings; or more schools people are actually out here thinking about apparently putting Africa on the app but when the rest of the continent is struggling. I mean it’s a nice concept but we all know that the place is just gonna be filled with rich people... smh 🤦🏾‍♀️ Africa has a lot of potential; there’s a lot of smart and intelligent people especially kids. But they just don’t have the resources to further their studies; I don’t understand how our African presidents are thinking. their all just focused on staying presidents for decades and barely doing nothing but get rich off people; the day our African governments realize that if we put our heads together we could change the continent as a whole in moderation. Just because the Europeans ruined our country and development; doesn’t mean we should just go along with it. When will all the African problems end. And no offense but it’s not just about Nigeria; my country the DRC is the most richest country in natural resources. And many other African countries have many natural resources that are able to generate economic growth. We also have to think about how we are able to offer more jobs to people. I’m not a professional of anything; but this is just my OPINION!!! It’ll take a long time until all of Africa is able to be restored; based on today’s technology is could take half a century and because of inflation it will require a lot of money. Let’s not let the world fool us into thinking Africa is doomed forever; cause then they’ll just keep taking from us and lying to us. There is so much to do; so much to think about; but I believe that if the young population is nurtured correctly they will change the continent; EDUCATION, INSPIRATION, MOTIVATION, INTELLECTUAL that’s all... 🥺 again... plz don’t come for me; it’s just my opinion 😩😩

5:27 - I honestly don't care about tourists or tourism in general. I know it brings in lots of money for a country's government (though Nigeria's has never been favorable of simply giving back to the people- neither to save lives or stimulate the economy), but if we can generate enough gross domestic product to keep Nigeria stable; then we can focus on improving the lives of native west Africans, without the invasion of the outside world which has always either ignored or disrespected us indigenous kings and queens.

Akon has a net worth of $80 million but Akon city has a budget of $6 billion it doesn't add up. Now let's assume he has investors (that cover up the 5 billion gap) since everyone is looking forward to it and but I don't think the investors would be dumb enough to invest that much in an African project, African's economy and business sector is too unstable and risky to invest. And the government will definitely not invest that much either because they are to broke and selfish.

@@coolkid845 is it negativity or realism? The project is an awesome project. But we need to face facts. To build Akon city , you need billions over a 15-25 year period and you need to understand who you're marketing the project to. The location is Senegal and its not exactly a rich country or even a country rich westerners flock to. When you build an experimental project like Akon city (the architecture) you need an upward mobile middle-class and wealthy population, which I doubt, Senegal has. The Senegalese government certainly can't afford to build it. So where is the money coming from? Where is the fund to build such an ambitious project coming from? No international investor will invest millions or billions of dollars on a whim. Especially in a region that they still consider to be unstable. As an African, I would love to see these projects prosper and take off. But we also need to face reality. Until African countries are seen by the outside world as being stable and the population is highly educated, rich and upwardly mobile. I hate to say it , I see Akon City only has a pipe dream.

1. I think you need to revisit your definition of middle class cause last time I checked, middle class were the engineers, bankers, and such, not cooks, cleaners and all that. 2. As much as I am for this types of projects, these projects will further increase the gap between rich and poor, and poor will grow rapidly, unfortunately, if care is not take, it will be largely Afrikans who will be poor. 3. I believe Afrika is the future, but there is a lot more to do before this types of projects...like a F***ING MANUFACTURING SECTOR. You know, the sector that makes nations rich, that one that's missing from literally ALL AFRIKAN COUNTRIES. I have faith in Afrika, let's be careful not to be bamboozled by our leaders cause...well...see y'all soon.
