yall know the reason why they encouraged her to continue the song was because will and jada may needed the extra money. anytime you push your children to do something for money it's so their child could have their own money to spend or to help out the family.

“Because I say so”, has saved plenty of souls. Kids can’t handle all those decisions the maturity needed, they just don’t have. That’s why there are laws to protect them.

I don't have any children yet but but I know for a fact that being a parent is a challenging job because each child comes with different needs and love languages. What works for one may not work for another but you are one person that has to learn from each and every child and adapt over time, which can prove challenging and unsettling. You could be doing everything in YOUR book that you think is right and still not meet your child specific emotional needs. It's a hard knock life for us!

I’m a let’s sit and talk parent. I feel like when parents say “Because I said so” they missed the opportunity to educate their children on life., which is exactly what I realized my parents did. They taught me nothing. I learned everything through trial and error and I never want my daughter to experience that. However, I do understand that she’ll have her own challenges to deal with but I want to be available for any conversation she wants to have.

I was raise with because I said so. Never being a loud to make a decision on my own without it being a family discussion on what I should do. So it was really hard for me as a mother of two in my mid twenties to make a decision for myself without second guessing if I was making the right ones. So I started making my own decisions and just sticking with what I felt was best for me and my babies. I never told my 2 loud "because I said so". I would explain why I didn't want them to do something(or too do something)but I would also allow them to explain why they should or shouldn't be able to do something. I let them think that they changed my mind because they made the right argument (or what have you). So they both stated learning at an early age sometimes right and sometimes wrong decision making process. And I always let them know they where(still are)the best things I ever did in my life and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute with them. Nothing I wouldn't have done for them. For that matter still would do for them. And to dance, laugh and love life. You always have ups and downs it what you do about them or handle them.
@imcharmed4evr
@imcharmed4evr 2 года назад
I definitely was a “becuz I said so” parent. I was a single parent, working two jobs, I didn’t have time to explain everything. I did create something called “Mommy/daughter day,” where I paid full attention to her and we did things she wanted to do the whole day, she still remembers those days and says they were the BEST! Plus, I let her use her sick days from school the way she wanted, since we never got sick. We’d take s sick day off and turn it into a shopping day at the mall. 😂

I feel like Jada and her mom's parenting styles are two extremes of a spectrum. I think Jada gives her children too much freedom, where as Jada's mom didn't give her enough and seemed controlling. It's important to have an open line of conversation. And as children grow up, I think parents needs to graudally give them more responsibilities and freedom, BUT at the end of the day, children need to be guided. Although Willow and Jaden are "still here", as they said, something about them seems off psychologically.
@Anna-ie6wt
@Anna-ie6wt 6 лет назад
Josie I think u feel this way bc they are smarter and more "woke" as some people like to say. So by meaning they don't act the way most kids act. They all did "crazy" stuff. She did in fact give them a lot of freedom. But with freedom comes trust. I think she trusted her kids enough to be out on there own and make a rational decision and even if they messed up. They are only kids and they did learn from them. Hopefully, they did and most importantly they are rich they can afford to make mistakes regular people can't make.

While I agree I don’t believe they’re off psychologically, I believe they’re much more mature and understanding of how life is than other kids because of how their parents don’t sugar coat their feelings and are so open with them.

I agree with you for the most part. BUT, I think only time and their actions will reveal the extent of any psychology paradigm shift residing in them.
@tiffanymc932
@tiffanymc932 5 лет назад
I agree with most of what you said but, we have to factor in other variables. A big example is the fact that they are wealthy children and their lives are totally different from the average child we encounter every day. Honesty, we all have some form of psychological issues, it's all about how we are capable of coping with living life. They both seem very mature and like their mom said, they have a "therapy fund". But, yes you are so right on both grandma and Jada being on two extremes of the spectrum, spot on!!!

If it's any consolation, Willow Smith that song Whip My Hair help save my life. I am a 54 year old woman, who had hair and in 2000 May of 2012 found out that I had cancer and lost my hair I used to listen to that song before it happened and I used to Whip My Hair whenever I was going through something and then when you was on Oprah you said it's not just whipping your hair but it's an attitude so when I lost my hair I realize that I can still shake my head around with my Whip my hair because my attitude was to fight this cancer and not let it take me out, I'm 53 and I still listen to that song when I get down and I blasted loud like my attitude towards cancer is I'm kicking your butt I'm whipping my hair, I am Brenda Watson a woman is old enough to be your grandmother who listens to that song and every time I get down two fighting cancer I had to cancel the first time a year and a half later I got cancer again and I lost my hair again and I play that song Oh my iPod with my hair like no matter what people say if you going to make it it's the fight as hard but I still with my hair so even though you went through something it empowered me and it still does and I'm still in the fight of my life because even though cancer-free the doctors recently found something in my chest you know what I say to that I can't worry imma praise God and Whip My Hair to thank you Willow thank you Jada and will for having such amazing children that can help others even when they don't even realize it I say blessings blessings blessings to you Willow and your family thank you for the song it has empowered me

Like it was said, we come with our own issues we were still trying to figure out.😢 Very good conversation what Jada bought to light.😊😊

This was so deep 🤔 I was raised in the 80's with strict parents. I hated it but as I became an adult I thank my father bc I figure out why he protected me. I raised my daughter the same way. She did not like my ways but hey I didn't allow her to spend the night over people houses, I had to meet her friends parents, visit their homes b4 she could play with them. We had to go to church. When she got to middle school she wanted to do everything. The answer couldn't be yes all the time but now she's 20 in her 3rd year in college been on the dean's list the whole time. She goes to different cities preaching to children about the Lord. She told me, I hated how strict you were but now I understand why you were protecting me. So every parenting is different. Is up to the children how they going to turn out. I use to tell my child, you have one life, only you can make it better or screw it up. It will be nobody fault if you decide to follow behind idiots. Thank God 🙏 she decided to take the right path. Bottom line prayer and faith is all you need. It's hard raising children in this cruel world 😥

I grew up in the 90s and was raised by a single mom. She was one of those cause I said so, but she also took the time to explain why to me and my sisters. As parents we are not perfect, we make mistakes and I don't think allowing your child to make all their own decisions is the way to go. If your child was about to walk out into traffic would you sit by and allow it? What parent would do that. Well if you allow them to make all their own decisions that's exactly what you're doing. Setting rules and instilling a solid foundation in your kids is the very definition of being a parent. They are kids, and of course they will make mistakes. But equipping them with a strong foundation and guidance will help them to be strong when faced with adversary. You don't have to let your child live the way they think they should in order to make them independent and self-sufficient adults, but instilling morals and rules will give them with they need to make good choices. We live in this world and we all have rules and laws thay we even as adults must obey, so even if you think that you don't have to give them rules, society will. Even the world knows that without rules......you get chaos.

I’m in college, 23 yrs. Honestly I always thought that super old school parents enjoy the power dynamic between parent and child. In my opinion, those kinds of parents hold their power over their children because it’s what their parents did when they were young. To me it’s a very destructive and sadistic pattern that eventually causes their children to rebel more and possibly become very narrow minded in the future.

Evey Cocoa I disagree. We have more school shootings than ever with these new age kids. School bullying is at an all time high. And children as young as 8 are committing suicide because of their peers. Because of young people who think the way you do, true parenting doesn’t happen anymore. You all read too much into shit instead of trying to realize that your parents are just trying to help you. This generation is so dramatic and are guided by a false sense of entitlement. Its really sad and unfortunate.

i get that but look at them. parents think that if they give their children opportunities to be open, then they’ll want to make bad decisions or mess their lives up. sheltering kids definitely leads to that. jaden and willow may have been raised unconventionally but have you ever seen them in any serious mess? they just live their lives and make their music and mind their business yet they receive so much hate. i love the way she raised them. they’re great kids. if i’m blessed to have kids, i’m gonna raise them the same way.

If their grandmother wasn't there the kids would've been out of balanced. I agree that yes explain yourself to your kids however letting them make every decision on their own, knowing it won't go well for them. It's about balance, I tell my daughter why we can't go outside right now and explain why. But I'm also going to be strict to certain things when it comes to some of her decision if I know it will not go well I'm not going to let her do it.

I agree with your point of view. I do the same with my children. I also explain that children always have a choice, even when they’re children; because they can choose to not listen even with parents who say “b/c I said so”. I just explain to my children that although you have a choice, making poor choices comes with consequences. I’m there to guide and offer a more experienced opinion but you have a choice to listen or not. But I wouldn’t allow my child to move out at 15.

I agree with some of their parenting style and some of will's law of attraction beliefs. However I'm not too sure that jada kids are as well adjusted as she thinks. It's great to let your children make choices for themselves but also be right there to guide and teach. I don't believe in just throwing them out into the world without educating them first and still being there to offer guidance. Those kids still need parenting. I dont like that jada is treating them like her job is done as a parent. Congrats on your channel growing so fast! Love your point of view and videos❤

Very well said to both these comments and I agree 100%. They do hv a great relationship and special bond with their kids and for the most part I feel theyve done a great job but I do believe they gave them too much power without enough education and I honestly dnt believe if they were regular, schmegular parents with 9 to 5 jobs, that they wldv taken this approach. I think they felt safe to do that bc they are rich and protected, both the kids and parents.

Well to be honest a lot of 9 to 5 type of people end up subconsciously giving their kids a lot of control and being on their own responsibility wise because they are rarely home. Especially with single parents. And basically Jada's mother did the same because her daughter was on the street hanging and hustling probably because her mom was a young single mother and a functioning addict.

LTG TG Completely agree! I saw and felt the same way immediately. He tried to share his feelings/thoughts/opinion about a job of some sort that he had done in earlier years but jada cut him off very abruptly and just finished His story/thought for him! It was quiet strange to me. Something just seemed off and a bit unsettling. Although they both have always adamantly claimed the reasons they chose this way of parenting was to allow their kids to embrace their own individuality, have their own voice, and to be succesful, strong, self reliant adults who live their Own individual life how they choose... it felt quiet the opposite. Oddly enough Jaden (whom now truly IS an Adult) seems to be suppressing many things and unsure about vocalizing himself. He portrayed much submissiveness, while his mom portrayed dominance.

Lailah Lynn I also think the fact that these children literally have been all over the world and have been exposed to different languages and cultures and seen the world’s extravagances as well as its poverty gives Jaden and Willow different insights than the average. So while regular children might not be equipped to leave home at 15 Jaden was. Plus on a realistic tip many kids in Hollywood leave their homes to work in the business basically by themselves or with a legal guardian which is no real difference than what Jaden did.

Being raised old school and raising children in this now today's time, there has to be a balance between both. Old school instilled values. Raising children today takes alot of patience and prayer. I'm not saying prayer as a cliche but because there are so many different spirits around children (pedophile, mental illness, and even murders) prayer is really needed. School shootings are becoming the normal. Legally children are minors until 18.

People are forgetting if Jada was a middle class mom all of this would go out of the window. Because you woudn't have the funds to give your teenager their own apartment or home. This stuff comes into play when there is little to no stress about money and you have money to burn... in other words privilege.
@non-profitcommunication7357

Tamara Laird I disagree a little. I would allow my child to move out into a tiny home we have already planned to build. I talked to my six year old about it he is very mature. And I taught my kids how to make their own money even by simply drawing pictures and selling them. I am a single mother and low income and I make it work. My children see my hustle and drive and they know what is up in the real world. I expose them little by little as to not overwhelm them and we talk. Jayden made his own money. He didn't use his parents money. And they said the knew he would make good decisions because the taught him how. And I agree he makes as good of decisions as any mature adult with a good moral compass. He is able to explain exactly why and defend his position very well. Just as my children's money and privilege has nothing to do with it.

There is a reason why kids don't raise themselves. There is a reason why they don't walk straight outta the womb into the job agency. They need to grow and learn. You can't let them raise themselves! You need to teach them life skills, and part of those skills is being able to respect authority and follow instructions. They'll question that authority and those instructions on their own, you don't need to teach them that. But give them the tools to survive before you let them have at the establishment.

I didn't like how Willow talked over her gma, Adrienne. That to me is poor parenting not to mention cursing in front of her. The gma coming from a "well off family" then getting addicted to drugs but being functioning sounds about right in line with the crack epidemic. When Jada talks all I hear is someone retelling a story based on how they want it to be perceived. This just seems ridiculous. Saying cus I said so is meant for a child to be reminded of their place. To take it any other way is simply being entitled. Kids and most adults are not owed an explanation cus everything doesn't deserve one.

This was a great comment I totally agree with everything you said. This is what parents are here for to guide direct encourage and helped lead the way for their children. This family is very lost and confused. Now you see what too much freedom can do for you. She trusted her son to get his own place at the age of 15 th years old. But was ashamed to tell them about her history. This family appears to be very lost confused and still trying to find their way. When I watch Jada it seems like she is still performing practicing for her next role. Still trying to convince the world that she is that bad girl that does not take any s***. This is so sad. I wish her and her family the very best.

NO parent will be the perfect parents. NO child will have the perfect childhood. We are not perfect people, so it is impossible that to achieve this. I would say that I am a combination. I like to explain, but there are times when I know they are trying me - so it becomes because I said so, end of discussion. But we no have the safe zone. It's a time when you can say what you want how you want. It's the only time cussing is allowed in the house. But you still have to be respectful, but other than that on in, if you need to. When the safe zone is closed, it's closed until next time.

I'm a BECAUSE I SAID SO with a line of COMMUNICATION , kids need structure and a balance, I don't like when you tell a child to do something and they're questioning you WHY?😑 In my opinion they should not even reached that point to say WHY because you give them the authority to question you and as they get older it gets worse, (seen it so many times). You can tell a child to do something and explain to them why you told him to do it before they even ask, especially today's kids that are so out of control because discipline especially verbal discipline is almost non-existent.

When they got to an age where they could reason and understand, then i would explain things to them. But, i did not have any child running me down with why this and why that. Also children need to be brought to a place where they trust that if you as a parent guide or direct, they know you have their back and you have a good reason for it.

I don’t have kids, I’m 18. My mom never really made choices for me but she did try to guide me. Our situation was a little different because I have many chronic illnesses. From a young age I was pretty independent, and I was allowed to research the treatments that the doctors wanted me to do, I always made the Final decision. Don’t get me wrong my mom had her saying but at the end of the day it was my decision. she said it was my body . When it came to things out side of health she never really had to punish or ground me because I honestly never really left the house and was to Ill to really get into trouble.... How she raised my brother and sister was way different from how I was raised, every child needs something different. I think if my mom would’ve raised me how she raise my siblings it would have been at worked.

I think on the face of it they are well balanced, articulate individuals and perhaps that's all that matters? I can't say I can relate 100% with Jada's parenting style; I tend to take on a "because I said so" stance with my children after I have explained SEVERAL times and they refuse to listen. Each child is different and thus needs a different style of parenting. My children are not mature enough to make such life changing decisions (some decision making is required for their personal growth. I do encourage them to reason things out). Her children also had a very different environment. For the most part, being wealthy, having security and/or being chauffeur driven allowed her children to have a lot of freedom (and that's wonderful for them). I can't allow my 14 year old son such privileges (as much as that breaks my heart) because many black boys are being inducted into gangs or killed in the our streets.

Alexandria UK I completely agree! After explaining If the child still doesn't want to listen then I definitely say I'm the adult so do what I said. And yea moving out at 15 yea I guess that works for rich folk... I could NEVER! I like what you said about every child is different! That's so true. Have parent them according to their needs. Great comment!

If people stop babysitting their kids and raise them, they will be just as mature as they need to be. Money has nothing to do with. Example in a poor single parent family the kids will more likely be mature as they will have more responsibility.

I respect giving kids choices,but a child can’t make adult decisions so it’s all about good balance, I can ask my child what they want to wear, watch on tv or what to eat , but moving out at 15 no not happening! I’m not passing judgement it’s just my opinion! Im a protective and attached parent , I also believe that trying your best is key that’s all we oughta do for the kids there’s no hand book that tells us how to be a perfect parent or kid ! So if it works for them so be it! It’s def a different style of parenting that I’m not completely use to! And the cursing 🤬 in front of my mom and grandma won’t ever happen and I’m 23 ( I just don’t curse tho)
@kaiel9z

Great commentary! I get your position. However, there are moments when “Because I said so is relative. If I tell you to “stop,” because I see the car coming and you don’t can save your life. You feel me? In that split second between me saying ‘stop’ and you asking me “why?“ can mean the difference between your child living or dying in that split second. So I’m saying that they are both relevant. Finally, my grandmother and many women of her era were married at 15 and their husbands were 18. Soooo age is also relative given the experience and circumstances.

I have a 13 year old daughter. It gets harder when your kid is a teenager. In their minds, the whole entire world revolves around them. I want my kid to be respectful to adults and not question them. Her classmates didn't learn home training and they disrespect their teachers all the time. I give my daughter options, but not TOO many. That girl is almost taller than me and she's a karate blue belt. I have to put some boundaries on her. She's not going to walk all over me.
@eveycocoa6295
@eveycocoa6295 6 лет назад
Vanity Posh sometimes questioning authority isn’t always disrespectful. Because adults are nowhere near perfect and they are wrong at times. Honestly if you teach kids to never in life question adults, they’ll be easily influenced by everyone because they won’t have a mind of their own.
@vanityposh6348
@vanityposh6348 6 лет назад
Evey Cocoa I explain many of the reasons she has to do certain things but I'm not at liberty to explain everything. The things that I tell her to do is beneficial to her. I'm just saying.... when you give a child too many options, it's not always a good thing. There are way too many spoiled disrespectful brats out there. I definitely don't want my kid being disrespectful to teachers or my mother. Many teachers have complimented my daughter to me about her behavior in class and I wouldn't want it any other way. Anyway, I think letting a child move out at 15 is a bit much. But they are celebs. I can see them doing something like that. I also know that being too strict on a child will make them rebel. You have to find that middle ground.

This is one my favorite topics you cover. :) I love their family table talks. I have a young son, almost two, and I will definitely be taking some Jada’s and Adrienne’s parenting advice. And life advice. I can’t agree more when Jada said that parents need to learn to forgive themselves more often. That every child will have their own burdens to bear.

Hurricane Ethyl ....Yes ma'am....I agree that it's okay to allow children to make decisions, but teach them to be wise in their decision making. It's not always good to learn a life lesson by making a bad decision that could have been avoided.

Welp, that parenting didn’t work for Jada’s kids though 🤷🏾‍♀️ patenting styles is based on the type of kid you have. It is so important to get to know your children, individually. That gives you an insight on what parenting style approach should be taken. Letting them “run wild” at an early age isn’t good though. The child will feel like they don’t have anyone who actually cares for them. All fun when they are young but, it really hurts them in the long run.

Charlene Moore yep and that's exactly why when she posted a video earlier about Jada and her daughter Jada had no idea that her daughter was cutting herself, had no idea how daughter learn her first sexual experience catching her parents having sex this style of parenting makes no sense to let a child as early as 4 and 8 do whatever they want to do we're here to teach them of course you got to give a child space to grow and to develop and learn for themselves but we are here as parents for a reason

I just realised I’m drinking tea like your pic (note: drinking, not sipping). I enjoyed this and your commentary. Especially the parts on children making mistakes while children, and not at 30. My God. At the start I was like ‘I said what I said’ all the way, but I realise that, as pointed out in the video, it leads to a child not being able to share stuff with their parent, which is so dangerous and detrimental to the child-parent relationship. And Jada’s point about adults coming into parenthood with their childhood traumas couldn’t be more true. Definitely something that needs to be recognised, acknowledged and acted on/managed by an adult that becomes a parent.

The down side of parenting your children that way is that once they go to school and other places outside of home people won’t treat them the same.... also they have money, their experiences are wildly different than people who don’t have those resources.

Because I said so is different from them telling you what they will and will not do. Children need to be raised and directed. So I don’t agree with Will and Jada. We have to parent our children with what they need not what we missed. Definitely a balancing act.
